This book examines Félix Guattari, the French psychoanalyst, philosopher, and radical activist, renowned for an energetic style of thought that cuts across conceptual, political, and institutional spheres. Increasingly recognised as a key figure in his own right, Guattari’s influence in contemporary social theory and the modern social sciences continues to grow. From the ecosophy of hurricanes to the micropolitics of cinema, the book draws together a series of Guattarian motifs which animate the complexity of one of the twentieth century’s greatest and most enigmatic thinkers. The book examines techniques and modes of thought that contribute to a liberation of thinking and subjectivity. Divided thematically into three parts – ‘cartographies’, ‘ecologies’, and ‘micropolitics’ – each chapter showcases the singular and pragmatic grounds by which Guattari’s signature concepts can be found to be both disruptive to traditional modes of thinking, and generative toward novel forms of ethics, politics and sociality. This interdisciplinary compendium on Guattari’s exciting, experimental, and enigmatic thought will appeal to academics and postgraduates within Social Theory, Human Geography, and Continental Philosophy.

Physiognomy and ekphrasis are two of the most important modes of description in antiquity and represent the necessary precursors of scientific description. The primary way of divining the characteristics and fate of an individual, whether inborn or acquired, was to observe the patient’s external characteristics and behaviour. This volume focuses initially on two types of descriptive literature in Mesopotamia: physiognomic omens and what we might call ekphrastic description. These modalities are traced through ancient India, Ugaritic and the Hebrew Bible, before arriving at the physiognomic features of famous historical figures such as Themistocles, Socrates or Augustus in the Graeco-Roman world, where physiognomic discussions become intertwined with typological analyses of human characters. The Arabic compendial culture absorbed and remade these different physiognomic and ekphrastic traditions, incorporating both Mesopotamian links between physiognomy and medicine and the interest in characterological ‘types’ that had emerged in the Hellenistic period. This volume offer the first wide-ranging picture of these modalities of description in antiquity.

Italian Sign Language (LIS) and Tactile Italian Sign Language (LISt) were only recently recognised by the Italian Parliament (Law no. 69, 21 May 2021). While political recognition is recent, academic recognition dates back more than twenty-five years, when LIS was recognised as a scientific discipline by the Ministerial Decree of 23 June 1997 (G.U. 1997-07-27). This enabled Italian universities to include the teaching of LIS and LISt in their programmes. In recent years, the training of professionals working in the field of deafness (interpreters, translators, teachers, and communication assistants) has gradually shifted from associations and private entities to universities. The establishment of new university courses in this area will improve the adoption of teaching methods based on established scientific research. This volume delves into the teaching of LIS and LISt at university level and outlines possible future developments in this field. The contributions share established teaching experiences and explore innovative methodologies and tools capable of promoting the development of LIS and LISt linguistic skills among university students.

The project "Paving the Way to Employment" aims to support young people with disabilities in overcoming internal barriers that may hinder their access to the labor market or further education. Through a course program, the project seeks to strengthen participants’ self-understanding, self-confidence, and belief in their own abilities, while also providing concrete strategies for managing both working life and everyday life with a disability. This evaluation aims to assess whether the project has had the intended impact on the participating youth. The evaluation focuses on two key areas. First, it examines the extent to which the project has succeeded in breaking down internal barriers for the participants. Second, it assesses how far the participants have come toward employment or education after completing the course. To evaluate these aspects, the study is based on a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. The quantitative part consists of surveys conducted at the beginning of the course, at its conclusion, and six months after completion. The qualitative part includes observations and interviews, providing deeper insight into the participants’ life situations as young people with disabilities. The evaluation was carried out by the Research Center for Disability and Employment, with Associate Professor Ditte Shamshiri-Petersen as project leader and Professor Thomas Bredgaard as project participant. Student assistants Marika Urban Bløde, Sofie Locht, and Maria Petersen contributed to data collection and analysis. "Paving the Way to Employment" was developed as a project from 2020 to 2025 by the Danish Association of Youth with Disabilities (SUMH), funded by the VELUX FOUNDATION. The job-seeking and coping program for unemployed youth was created in collaboration with the Institute for the Blind and Partially Sighted (IBOS). It has been implemented, tested, and further developed by SUMH in cooperation with the municipalities of Aarhus, Frederiksberg, Fredericia, Solrød, Hillerød, Slagelse, Lolland, and Bornholm.

The book Post-Socialist Translation Practices explores how Communism and Socialism, through their hegemonic pressure, found expression in translation practice from the moment of Socialist revolution to the present day. Based on extensive archival research in the archives of the Communist Party and on the interviews with translators and editors of the period the book attempts to outline the typical and defining features of the Socialist translatorial behaviour by re-reading more than 200 translations of children's literature and juvenile fiction published in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY). Despite the variety of different forms of censorship that the translators in all Socialist states were subject to, the book argues that Socialist translation in different cultural and linguistic environments, especially where the Soviet model tried to impose itself, purged the translated texts of the same or similar elements, in particular of the religious presence. The book also traces how ideologically manipulated translations are still uncritically reprinted and widely circulated today.

With changes in technology and a renewed effort to catalog the world's biodiversity, huge amounts of data are being generated on biodiversity issues. As response to the call for better information systems to manage the biodiversity crisis, a wide range of solutions are being developed for inventorying, managing, and disseminating taxonomic data. This book brings together a diverse array of authors, expertise, and assessors that discuss technical developments to improve the construction, population, and dissemination of biodiversity information. It is designed to inform students and researchers of biodiversity about the changes and challenges that need to be understood by everyone in this information age.
