This book provides the state of the art of the investigation and the in-depth analysis of hydraulic conductivity from the theoretical to semi-empirical models perspective as well as policy development associated with management of land resources emanating from drainage-problem soils. A group of international experts contributed to the development of this book. It is envisaged that this thought provoking book will excite and appeal to academics, engineers, researchers and University students who seek to explore the breadth and in-depth knowledge about hydraulic conductivity. Investigation into hydraulic conductivity is important to the understanding of the movement of solutes and water in the terrestrial environment. Transport of these fluids has various implications on the ecology and quality of environment and subsequently sustenance of livelihoods of the increasing world population. In particular, water flow in the vadose zone is of fundamental importance to geoscientists, soil scientists, hydrogeologists and hydrologists and allied professionals.

Human activities associated with greenhouse gas emissions have unequivocally caused global warming. Widespread adverse impacts on people, living organisms, and the environment are already being observed, mostly affecting vulnerable communities who are least responsible for current climate change. Unless drastic mitigation and adaptation measures are taken, continued greenhouse gas emissions will further exacerbate dangerous climate change. This expert report maps and analyses the complex justice issues that arise in the context of climate change and evaluates policy responses to the impacts of climate change from a climate justice perspective.

Gen Con is the largest and oldest continuously running convention that is focused on analog games. It has been an important fixture in the development of modern tabletop games not just for role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons, but also boardgames, collectible card games, miniature games, live action role-playing games, and others. Each year over 70,000 people make a pilgrimage to Indianapolis, Indiana to celebrate and play these games. Gathering of Gamers explores the convention through a year-by-year history from 1967 through 2022. The book not only discusses the prominent games at each annual convention, it also examines the major milestones in tabletop game development over the years, how gamer culture and the perception of gamers in society has evolved, how technology has impacted conventions and the games we play, and the relationship between game conventions and the cities and other entities that host them.

En 2008, le gouvernement français lance sa réforme de libéralisation des activités portuaires. Celle-ci impose la concession des terminaux au secteur privé et transforme profondément le rôle joué par les anciens ports autonomes dans leur territoire d’insertion. La France s’inscrit ainsi dans un processus de diffusion d’un modèle de gestion portuaire à l’échelle mondiale, initié dans l’Angleterre de Margaret Thatcher ou le Chili des Chicago boys dès le début des années 1980. Ce qui se joue sur les quais depuis trente ans s’inscrit dans un mouvement global de redéfinition du rôle des États dans les affaires économiques du monde. La réflexion proposée dans cet ouvrage est le fruit d’un travail d’enquêtes menées auprès des acteurs entrepreneuriaux et institutionnels, entre 2009 et 2012, dans une dizaine de ports du sud de l’Europe occidentale (France, Italie, Espagne). Cette analyse interdisciplinaire en sciences humaines et sociales propose un éclairage sur les grands principes politiques et économiques ayant conduit à ces transformations et s’interroge sur I évolution des conditions d’exercice des activités portuaires que 1ère libérale engage.

Modern medicine often treats individuals as standardized patients, categorizing them by defined diseases and creating lifelong dependency on medications. Side effects are managed by introducing additional medications, creating a never-ending cycle. Patients are not cured, but their symptoms are depressed as long as the drug is taken. For example, a simple headache is broken down into subgroups, each explained by different causes and mechanisms. However, some patients suffer for years, and their headaches are not eliminated. The same approach is applied to other pain conditions, as well as diseases like cancer, rheumatism, and others. A new idea emphasizes revisiting traditional methods and products to inspire new trials. To integrate these methods, more scientific studies and reliable data are needed. This book introduces innovative methods that combine traditional approaches with scientific insights, offering a personalized and holistic perspective for natural healing.

Up to now, demand fulfillment in make-to-stock manufacturing is usually handled by advanced planning systems. Orders are fulfilled on the basis of simple rules or deterministic planning approaches not taking into account demand fluctuations. The consideration of different customer classes as it is often done today requires more sophisticated approaches explicitly considering stochastic influences. This book reviews current literature, presents a framework that addresses revenue management and demand fulfillment at once and introduces new stochastic approaches for demand fulfillment in make-to-stock manufacturing based on the ideas of the revenue management literature.

In den deutschen Landen wurde noch das ganze 18. Jahrhundert hindurch die Wirkungsmacht von Teufel und Dämonen heftig diskutiert. Gegner der Hexenverfolgungen und Kritiker einiger Aufsehen erregender Fälle von Exorzismus führten philosophische, namentlich cartesianische, und theologische Argumente ins Feld; bei der Exegese der einschlägigen Bibelstellen wandten sie das Akkomodationsprinzip und neue kritisch-filologische Methoden an. Sie beriefen sich fast allesamt auf den niederländischen Pastor Balthasar Bekker (1634–1698), der mit seiner Betoverde Weereld (1691–1693) dem Aberglauben ein Ende setzen und die Aufklärung im Protestantismus als eine „zweite Reformation“ vorantreiben wollte. Die zahlreichen deutschen Reaktionen auf Bekker in den Jahren zwischen der ersten (1693) und der zweiten (1781–82) Verdeutschung seiner Schrift werden in der vorliegenden Arbeit erstmals detailliert analysiert, um so seinen Einfluss auf das deutsche Geistesleben sowie seine gesellschaftliche Wirkung dort zu rekonstruieren. An Bekker lässt sich zudem aufzeigen, wie nachhaltig die Niederlande im Einzelnen auf die deutsche Aufklärung einwirkten.

Siguiendo un claro enfoque multidisciplinar, este libro presenta un balance historiográfico sobre la muerte de los príncipes en la Edad Media, tanto hispana como francesa, entendiendo el término «príncipes» en su sentido más amplio. No solo se examinan casos particulares relativos a los miembros de la familia regia, sino que se profundiza también en los diversos ámbitos de la aristocracia eclesiástica, militar y urbana. Desde la ritualización funeraria —liturgia, música—, la memoria cronística y documental, las obras de arte o su reflejo en la literatura, hasta la antropología física, los estudios presentados se enfocan a calibrar la relación de la muerte y su tratamiento con la imagen del poder que dichas élites proyectan y su emulación por parte de los restantes grupos sociales.

Resonancias de El Chavo del 8 indaga en las imágenes sobre escolarización y niñez, latinoamericanidad y afectividad, medios de comunicación y clase, que emergen de las experiencias de visionado de la serie creada por el popular comediante Roberto Gómez Bolaño. Al explorar las conexiones entre los estudios de cultura visual y de curriculum transcultural, los ensayos que integran este volumen navegan en un espacio poético transnacional de convivencia con la cultura pop, de la que surgen nuevas vías de interpretación y formas de acercamiento al estudio de uno de los fenómenos globales producidos por la televisión latinoamericana. En efecto, no existen demasiadas instancias en las que un producto cultural se haya expandido a lo largo de toda Latinoamérica y más allá (El Chavo del 8 llegó a transmitirse en continentes tan alejados como Asia y África), dejando una huella que perduró durante décadas y entre generaciones.

This work deals with the analysis of the cleaning mechanism of polymer woven filter media. It reports parametric studies for the cleaning of filter media using continuous and pulsed flows for different kinds of impurities and filter geometries. There the focus is on the development of dimensionless operation numbers, which can be used to predict the cleaning result of the respective filter medium.

La musique de Debussy — cet art fait de « touches successives reliées par un lien mystérieux » — interroge les arcanes de la nature pour mieux en retenir la singulière temporalité traduction d'un jeu de formes suggérées qui semblent prendre corps un instant et préfèrent néanmoins s'esquiver. Ce langage est celui d'un visionnaire, sur les pas de Baudelaire et de Poe. Nombreuses sont les configurations esthétiques qui se créent autour de Debussy (Schaeffner, Boulez, Pesson) : elles démontrent l'actualité de sa pensée compositionnelle et invitent à dépasser une catégorisation en termes de symbolisme, d'impressionnisme ou de modernité. Ce collectif où dialoguent musicologie, composition et interprétation présente une réflexion générale sur la multiplicité de l'art debussyste, aux fondements de la musique du XXe siècle.
