Security – a category that is as important as neglected when it comes to the French Wars of Religion in the 16th century. Christian Wenzel systematically traces imaginations of security as well as their function in the French Wars of Religion for the first time, with a close focus on the perspective of the historical actors. The present study vividly recounts a broad security debate which influenced the conflicts between 1557 and 1589 to a significant degree. Thereby, the study enables not only new perspectives on pivotal junctions and processes; by introducing “Historical Security Communication” as a heuristic approach, it also contributes to Historical Security Studies and casts a light on the complexity of early modern semantics of security.

The term "myositis" covers a variety of disorders often designated "idiopathic inflammatory myopathies". Although they are rather rare compared to other rheumatic diseases, they often cause severe disability and not infrequently increased mortality. The additional involvement of important internal organs such as the heart and lungs, is not uncommon. Thus, there is a great need for a better understanding of the etiopathogenesis of myositis, which may lead to improved treatment and care for these patients. Major advances regarding research and medical treatment have been made during recent years. Of particular importance is the discovery of the Myositis specific autoantibodies, linking immunological and pathological profiles to distinct clinical disease entities. A wide range of aspects of myopathies is covered in the book presented by highly qualified authors, all internationally known for their expertice on inflammatory muscle diseases. The book covers diagnostic, pathological, immunological and therapeutic aspects of myositis.

How ideas of gender and climate change intersect with our path to a livable future. When you think "climate change," who comes to mind? Who's doing the science, the reporting, the protesting, the suffering? In Women and Climate Change, Nicole Detraz asks where women in the global North figure in the picture, what that means, and why it matters. Her answers fill critical gaps in what we know about the politics of climate change and gender.Representations of climate change, like perceptions of gender, can make a profound difference in understanding expectations and actions around social, cultural, and political issues. Interviewing women living in the global North who work in the climate change sphere, Detraz examines the crucial links between notions of climate change and gender—in particular, how women are portrayed in climate change debates. Where is their presence or absence recognized? What tasks are they expected to perform? What factors influence their roles? The answers provide a nuanced account of the characteristics, conditions, and positions associated with women's activities in and experiences of climate change—a multifaceted portrayal of women that also demonstrates the generalization and essentializing that can hinder goals of sustainability and gender justice.Because gender is a social construction, Detraz reminds us, change is possible. Her book offers the suggestion, and the hope, that identifying connections between ideas of gender and climate change might also alter our vision of a livable future.

Organic waste (OW), continuously created by agriculture, livestock farming, forestry and cities, is biodegradable matter, a plant nutrient source functioning—after processing—as effective fertilizer replacement. Humic substances (HS), produced via physical, chemical and microbial processes during early diagenesis in the decay of biomass, are redox-active, refractory, dark-colored mixtures of heterogeneous organic compounds and represent an important source of organic carbon and nitrogen in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. HS and processed OW have a beneficial effect on agricultural soil properties, pollutant sequestration, nutrient immobilization and transport. They also affect plant metabolism, thus greatly influencing water quality and green agriculture. OW management conserves energy and resources and contributes to a circular economy. This Special Issue is focused on novel approaches to a range of hot topics including among others: Green production processes, properties and uses of HS and OW; HS interactions/complexation with compounds promoting sustainable agriculture; Impact of HS, HS-contained materials and organic waste on the environment (soil, plants and living organisms, domestic animals and cattle included); OW from industrial processes, e.g., molasses, cheese whey, slaughterhouse, leather; Physical, chemical, biological OW treatments and recycling, e.g., retention, adsorption, composting, decomposer microorganisms, supporting green agriculture; Management of the pollutants that accompany OW, e.g., chemicals, pharmaceuticals, drugs, dyes, pesticides, food additives.

With the aim to write the history of Christianity in Scandinavia with Jerusalem as a lens, this book investigates the image – or rather the imagination – of Jerusalem in the religious, political, and artistic cultures of Scandinavia through most of the second millennium. Volume 3 analyses the impact of Jerusalem on Scandinavian Christianity from the middle of the 18. century in a broad context.

Knowledge of retinal diseases has radically changed over the past 10 years with the development of both new techniques and instrumentation, with improvements in surgical machines and diagnostic tools. This book reports the latest developments in retinal diseases, from pathogenesis to diagnosis, and both medical and surgical approaches in the management of retinal diseases. The core of the book focuses on developments and new perspectives in the treatment of some retinal diseases. It also discusses the pathophysiology and treatment of retinal diseases, taking biological disease markers into consideration. The indications for surgery have expanded dramatically and inoperable conditions have become amenable to surgical treatment. As such, the book also provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of the art in the surgical approach to many vitreoretinal diseases with the latest developments in surgery of the retina that enable improved surgical outcomes.

On the Problem of Church Slavonic Writing in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the 16–18th Centuries: Religious and Didactic Editions from Two Podlasie Printing Houses. The boundary of Eastern and Western Christianity not only divides Slavs but also fosters the formation of specific space of their contact. For centuries, this space has been represented by Podlasie, which is the borderland of ethnos, languages and confessions. Cultural and spiritual centres of Orthodox Church — Suprasl that possesses unquestionable significance in the history and culture of Podlasie and Zabludov that is also important in some respects — were formed on this border in the 16th century. Historical monuments of writing that were created in Podlasie prove that Church-Slavonic-Ruthenian tradition has become an inseparable part of the common national heritage of the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth. The 16th–18th centuries Cyrillic writings published in Zabludov and Suprasl make it possible to investigate mutual permeation of elements of Slavia Romana and Slavia Orthodoxa cultures. They are also an important source in studies of the Church-Slavonic language and “prosta mova” that was entering religious texts more and more boldly.

Olericulture is one of the subdisciplines of horticulture, primarily focusing on three core areas: the genetic breeding, cultivation, and postharvest physiology of vegetable crops. In addition to classical genetic research methods, modern genetic research approaches based on high-throughput sequencing technology—such as QTL-seq and GWAS—have been widely applied. Meanwhile, with the decreasing costs of genomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics, and proteomics, these omics technologies have also been commonly used in olericultural research. These two research approaches—genetics and omics—have significantly advanced studies on the exploration and utilization of genetic resources in olericulture, leading to the acquisition of numerous new research findings. To summarize and showcase these academic achievements, we launched our Special Issue. The Special Issue concluded on February 28, 2023, and included a total of 14 papers, consisting of 1 editorial, 1 review article, and 6 papers focusing on Solanaceae crops, 2 on Cucurbitaceae crops, 2 on Brassicaceae crops, 1 on Chinese chive, and 1 on olive. As of August 20, 2025, this Special Issue has been viewed 45,487 times, attracting substantial attention. All papers in this Special Issue closely address specific traits of the corresponding vegetable crops, covering research hotspots such as male sterility, secondary metabolism synthesis, abiotic stress responses, and fruit development. These research achievements provide new perspectives for understanding the genetic regulatory mechanisms underlying these specific traits and demonstrate their application value in genetic improvement.

Cultural Technologies: Robots and Artificial Intelligence in the Performing Arts presents a diverse range of perspectives from leading scholars and artists on contemporary performing arts practices that engage with robotic and AI (artificial intelligence) technologies. In Part One, ""Robot/AI Cultures and Performing Arts Practices,"" contributors discuss how cultural understandings of robots and AI influence the audience’s reception of performance works that feature such technologies and inspire artistic innovation. The chapters in Part Two, ""Performing Arts Cultures and Robots/AI Developments,"" explore how theories and practices of the performing arts can engender critical dialogue on matters of cultural difference concerning culturally non-specific (though implicitly Western) framings of robotic and AI technologies within science and engineering contexts. Reorienting the conversation around robotics and AI in the performing arts to place culture at its centre, Cultural Technologies: Robots and Artificial Intelligence in the Performing Arts offers thought-provoking analyses for advanced undergraduates, researchers, and performing arts practitioners interested in the relationships between music, theatre, and dance, and cutting-edge robotic and AI technologies.

As a follow-up to their first collaboration Repetitions (published in Belgrade in 1994, and in English by punctum in 2013), in 2008 the authors published, also in Belgrade, Vampiri & Razumni recnik, published here by punctum as Vampires & A Reasonable Dictionary. Vampires is Radaković’s fictionalized account of a Serb living in Cologne, Germany while his former country disintegrates. He travels in the American West, ostensibly looking for the vampires causing chaos in his own country, and then returns to Europe, having found no vampires. It is a dark text, a story of destruction told in a narrative that refuses all the solaces narrative has traditionally afforded. A Reasonable Dictionary is Abbott’s personally troubled account of his and Radaković’s trip up the Drina River between the civil wars, a journey made with the novelist Peter Handke, a trip during which some of Abbott’s specifically American stories lost their moral structure.

The existing studies and lines of research around the Solidarity Organization of the Peoples of Asia, Africa and Latin America and the Tricontinental design are relatively recent in the field of history. There is no work that has delved into the materials collected within the more than one hundred and eighty-four issues published by the Tricontinental magazine to date. This study, which delves into the history of the organization and into the analysis of three specific representational models of Tricontinental graphic art, aspires to offer new interpretive keys around the Femininity of the Global South, the image of Ernesto Che Guevara and the Imperialism from an alternative point of view scarcely worked until now in the field of historical research.
