Walter Burley’s Tractatus primus forms part of a broad philosophical project centred on the analysis of natural change. The better-known De intensione et remissione formarum (printed in 1496 and also known as Tractatus secundus) is also part of this project. Burley’s study of qualitative change is based on a notion of contraries that differs from the commonly accepted Aristotelian version. For Burley, contraries are measured against the distance from a quality at its highest degree. Therefore, no specific change can be assumed when passing from hot to cold, which clearly reduces the ontology of qualities. Taking degrees of intensity into consideration, the different degrees of quality entail formal, but not specific, change. To use an example from the text, cold is not fundamentally different from hot; it is simply hot at the lowest degree. By ascribing a leading role to the different degrees of qualities, Burley’s project makes significant progress in the study of natural change.

In the Colombian context there are specialties that by jurisprudential means are cataloged in themselves, a priori as obligations of result, thus framing them in an objective regime of responsibility, this is how the SC7110 judgment of November 5, 2013 indicates that when In the case of plastic surgery with a healthy body, it is understood that the debtor has everything under his control and that is why the promised benefit will be fulfilled, despite the fact that there are cases in which this type of specialties can develop activities that are remote of the foundation of satisfactory medicine are part of the comprehensive treatment of a clinical condition, such is the case of the specialty in plastic surgery in the scenario of the patient with gender dysphoria. This research aims to determine the legal responsibility of the health professional in the management of gender dysphoria based on the criteria of civil liability and the applicable legal regime according to the theoretical perspective of Professor Javier Tamayo Jaramillo. Using a qualitative approach through the documentary analysis and case study proposed by Daniel Bertaux, he intends to study the sentences of the constitutional court in the period between 2012 - 2020 that deal with gender dysphoria, to validate the recognition of surgical procedures as part of the comprehensive management of this condition, coupled with the scientific foundation supported by the current clinical practice guidelines on the matter, to later carry out a study of the responsibility applicable to them.

In this Special Issue of Sensors, seven peer-reviewed manuscripts appear on the topic of ultrasonic transducer design and operation in harsh environments: elevated temperature, high gamma and neutron radiation fields, or the presence of aggressive chemicals. Motivations for these research and development projects are strongly focused on nuclear power plant inspections (particularly liquid-sodium cooled reactors), and nondestructive testing of high-temperature piping installations. It is anticipated that extensive use of permanently mounted robust transducers for in-service monitoring of petrochemical plants and power generations stations; quality control in manufacturing plants; and primary and secondary process monitoring in the fabrication of engineering materials will soon be made.

"Today, increases of so-called ‘low-skilled’ and temporary labour migrations of Pacific Islanders to Australia occur alongside calls for Indigenous people to ‘orbit’ from remote communities in search of employment opportunities. These trends reflect the persistent neoliberalism within contemporary Australia, as well as the effects of structural dynamics within the global agriculture and resource extractive industries. They also unfold within the context of long and troubled histories of Australian colonialism, and of complexes of race, labour and mobility that reverberate through that history and into the present. The contemporary labour of Pacific Islanders in the horticultural industry has sinister historical echoes in the ‘blackbirding’ of South Sea Islanders to work on sugar plantations in New South Wales and Queensland in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, as well as in wider patterns of labour, trade and colonisation across the Pacific region. The antecedents of contemporary Indigenous labour mobility, meanwhile, include forms of unwaged and highly exploitative labouring on government settlements, missions, pastoral stations and in the pearling industry. For both Pacific Islanders and Indigenous people, though, labour mobilities past and present also include agentive and purposeful migrations, reflective of rich cultures and histories of mobility, as well as of forces that compel both movement and immobility. Drawing together historians, anthropologists, sociologists and geographers, this book critically explores experiences of labour mobility by Indigenous peoples and Pacific Islanders, including Māori, within Australia. Locating these new expressions of labour mobility within historical patterns of movement, contributors interrogate the contours and continuities of Australian coloniality in its diverse and interconnected expressions. Few topics generate as much controversy and debate as armed humanitarian intervention. Military force involves death and destruction, as well as interfering in other countries’ domestic affairs. But, crucially, non-intervention is also controversial. When confronted with humanitarian crises abroad, many feel that outsiders are not only justified in using force to halt the abuses, but that they must do so. The Ethics of Humanitarian Intervention: An Introduction offers a guide to these ethical debates. In clear and informative style Jonathan Parry explores the following topics: The morality of defending others, including the ‘responsibility to protect’ (R2P). State sovereignty and self-determination as barriers to intervention. The possibility of consensual intervention. Just causes for intervention: what kinds of human rights abuses warrant intervention? The effectiveness of intervention: does it work in practice? Alternatives to intervention, including aiding rebels, economic sanctions, and providing aid. Whether there is a duty to intervene. Examples of intervention – including the former Yugoslavia, Iraq, Liberia, and Libya – are used to illustrate the ethical dilemmas in question. The arguments of important theorists of intervention, such as John Stuart Mill, Michael Walzer and Jeff McMahan, are also explained clearly and critically. Each chapter concludes with questions for discussion and reflection. The Ethics of Humanitarian Intervention: An Introduction is ideal reading for students and researchers in philosophy, applied ethics, politics and international relations.
