Camera pose estimation from video images is a fundamental problem in machine vision and Augmented Reality (AR) systems. Most developed solutions are either linear for both n points and n lines, or iterative depending on nonlinear optimization of some geometric constraints. In this paper, we first survey several existing methods and compare their performances in an AR context. Then, we present a new linear algorithm which is based on square fiducials localisation technique to give a closed-form solution to the pose estimation problem, free of any initialization. We propose also an hybrid technique which combines an iterative method, in fact the orthogonal iteration (OI) algorithm, with our own closed form solution. An evaluation of the methods has shown that this hybrid pose estimation technique is accurate and robust. Numerical experiments from real data are given comparing the performances of our hybrid method with several iterative techniques, and demonstrating the efficiency of our approach.

The cation-independent mannose 6-phosphate receptor (CI-M6PR) is essential for the endocytosis of proteins bearing the mannose 6-phosphate (M6P) recognition marker. This study described the synthesis of M6P and M6S analogs presenting greater affinity for CI-M6PR than their natural compounds. Moreover, the finding of their lack of cytotoxicity for human cells and of their increased stability in human serum supports the high potential of these isosteric derivatives in therapies requiring CI-M6PR targeting.

Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) was developed to allow women/couples at risk of having a child with ?severe and incurable? hereditary disease to produce embryos through in-vitro fertilization, followed by implantation of embryos devoid of mutated genes, allowing the birth of children free of the pathology present in the family. This article examines the highly regulated practice of PGD in France, the highly deregulated practice of PGD in the USA and Brazil, and the extensive use of this biomedical technology in Israel, and highlights the ways that distinct national policies produce distinct definitions of risk and different norms, standards and rules. PGD, this article argues, is a situated practice. Shaped to an important extent by legal and economic constraints, it displays the ways that new technologies continuously reframe our definitions of the normal and the pathological.

Low phophorus availability in about 40% of the world’s arable land limits crop yield, most particularly for leguminous crops when their growth depends upon symbiotic N2-fixation (SNF). Therefore, our work aims to increase the phosphorus use efficiency (PUE) for SNF, and its contribution to a more effective coupling between the P and N bio-geochemical cycles. Myo-inositol hexakisphosphate (phytate) constitutes the main source of organic P in soils, but is unavailable to plants. Phytases are the only phosphatases able to hydrolyse phytate efficiently into inorganic Pi, thus increasing P bio-availability for plants. In this work we show by in situ RT-PCR, the expression of a purple acid phytase within the inner-cortex of Phaseolus vulgaris root-nodule (Lazali et al., 2014). Also histidine acid- and - propeller- phytases (HAP and BPP) were found among legumenodulating rhizobia with major expression in nodule infected-cells. Moreover, phosphoenol pyruvate phosphatase (Bargaz et al. 2012) and trehalose 6P phosphatase (Bargaz et al. 2013) were discovered in nodules with puzzling localization. The nodular expression of all these genes and the enzymatic activity of their products increased significantly under P-deficiency. They varied among recombinant inbred lines of P. vulgaris that were shown to contrast in their PUE for SNF. It is concluded that the differential expression of bacterial and plant phosphatase-genes in nodules offers a new understanding of the N2-fixing legume physiology and its specific P requirements. The potential of these phosphatase-genes as molecular markers for adaptation of legume crops in low-P soils and their contribution to a virtuous cycle of P and N fertility will be addressed in relation with the interdisciplinary research strategy of the FABATROPIMED federative project of Agropolis Montpellier.

How similar are two melodies? Proposed in 1990, the Mongeau-Sankoff algorithm computes the best alignment between two melodies with insertion, deletion, substitution , fragmentation, and consolidation operations. This popular algorithm is sometimes misunderstood. Indeed, computing the best edit distance, which is the best chain of operations, is a more elaborated problem. Our objective is to clarify the usage of the Mongeau-Sankoff algorithm. In particular, we observe that an alignment is a restricted case of edition. This is especially the case when some edit operations overlap, e.g. when one further changes one or several notes resulting of a fragmentation or a consolidation. We propose recommendations for people wanting to use or extend this algorithm, and discuss the design of combined or extended operations, with specific costs.

The C-NEM is a new approach that we apply to solve mechanical problem in the context of finite transformations as encountered in forming process simulation. The C-NEM (Constrained Natural Element Method) is based on the Voronoi diagram associated to the nodes spread on the studied domain. The Voronoi diagram is constrain to respect the geometry of the domain boundaries. Its ability for constructing the interpolation when the domain becomes highly distorted makes of that approach an appealing choice for simulation forming processes as for example 3D cutting and blanking. In this communication we present some aspects related to the C-NEM approach and we show its ability to simulate kinematics encountered in high velocity blanking process.
