This work focuses on the influence of the feedstock powders on the microstructural properties and corrosion behavior of 316L stainless steel (SS) produced by laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) from two different suppliers. Microstructural investigations conducted after additive manufacturing reveal many particularities depending on the powders. The first one exhibits a typical microstructure of materials obtained by L-PBF with a heterogeneous and hierarchical structure including the presence of columnar grains, precipitates of Mn and Si oxides, solidification cells (segregation in Cr, Mo and Ni), dislocations. However, the second one presents an atypical microstructure with low columnar grains growth, Mn and Si oxide precipitates which are Cr enriched and the existence of an additional small cell structure, which is organized inside the known large solidification cells. These microstructural differences lead to a different corrosion behavior in boiling nitric acid containing oxidizing ions. The presence of the triple structuration (grains, large cells, small internal cells) shows a positive effect on intergranular and cellular corrosion resistance. The existence of the smaller internal cellular sub-network allows a homogenization of the material composition and a small-scale equilibrium of the anodic and cathodic surfaces favorable to the cellular corrosion resistance. In both cases, L-PBF 316L SS provides better resistance to intergranular corrosion than wrought 316L SS which undergoes fast and severe grain loss over time.

—In this work, a heterogeneous cellular network with caching enabled at the small cell aggregators is analyzed. The caching technology is enabled to help offload some of the popular traffic requests onto the cache. In this framework, a network congestion game is formulated to study the evolution of traffic when every user as an independent decision maker decides its choice of communication, i.e, via the macro cell or the caching enabled small cells. To study the effect of the cache on the network delay, a numerical simulation is implemented. The file popularity is modeled using the well known Zipf-distribution and the network delay is studied as a function of the cache buffer size and network traffic. In summary, these results can be utilized by network operators to deploy infrastructure efficiently.

Investigating individual differences in cognition requires addressing questions not often thought about in standard experimental designs, especially regarding the psychometric properties of the task. Using the AX-CPT cognitive control task as a case study example, we address four concerns that one may encounter when researching the topic of individual differences in cognition. First, we demonstrate the importance of variability in task scores, which in turn directly impacts reliability, particularly when comparing correlations in different populations. Second, we demonstrate the importance of variability and reliability for evaluating potential failures to replicate predicted correlations, even within the same population. Third, we demonstrate how researchers can turn to evaluating psychometric properties as a way of evaluating the feasibility of utilizing the task in new settings (e.g., online administration). Lastly, we show how the examination of psychometric properties can help researchers make informed decisions when designing a study, such as determining the appropriate number of trials for a task.

This study explores the impact of hybridization on the mechanical behaviour of carbon and flax fibrere inforced epoxy laminates exposed to fire, aiming to enhance sustainability in aerospace applications while addressing flammability challenges. Hybridization combines flax's environmental benefits and ductility with carbon's strength and thermal stability. Objectives include evaluating pyrolysis effects from brief kerosene flame exposure (60 s under 116 kW/m², ~1100°C) on carbon/epoxy (C/E), flax/epoxy (F/E), and hybrid carbon/flax/epoxy (C/F/E) laminates, and assessing residual flexural properties. Laminates were fabricated via compression moulding with Araldite LY 156 epoxy, 240 g/m² flax fabric, and 189 g/m² carbon twill, in six lay-ups and material configurations: [0 8C ], [45 8C ], [0 8F ], [45 8F ], [0 4C 0 4F ] and [45 4C 45 4F ]. Results indicate hybridization multiplies axial stiffness by ~6, optimized by outer carbon plies, reducing porosity and enhancing flexural strength, though carbon fractures first due to flax's higher elongation. Flame exposure caused mass loss of 8-15% (higher in hybrids and [45 8 ] layups), with greater matrix degradation, cracks, and delamination in flax-rich areas.Residual flexural strength decreased by 20-30% (e.g., hybrid [0 4C 0 4F ]: 250-300 MPa virgin to 200-250 MPa post-fire), but ductility increased (strain 3-4% to 5-6%), shifting failures from shear to brittle/delamination modes. Hybridization provides a balanced thermal barrier, preserving load-bearing capacity better than pure flax, suggesting potential for fire-resistant aeronautical composites.

Enzymatic electrocatalysis combines the advantage of regio- and stereoselective biocatalysts with the sustainability of electrocatalysis, making it a green and efficient catalytic technology with great potential in the synthesis of high-value chemicals. Enzymes, which are used in biological processes, can be classified into six main categories, oxidoreductases, transferases, hydrolases, lyases, isomerases, and ligases. Among these enzymes, oxidoreductases are widely used in pharmaceutical synthesis, bioenergy transformation, and the crafting of fine chemical products. Oxidoreductases are enzymes that specifically catalyze oxidation-reduction reactions within biological systems. In a typical oxidoreductase electrocatalysis reaction, NAD-dependent dehydrogenases will act as a catalyst to transfer hydride between NADH and substrates. Nevertheless, most NAD-dependent dehydrogenases will continuously consume NADH during reactions, limiting their widespread industrial application. Given the high cost of cofactor, its effective and selective regeneration are very important for the viability of enzymatic processes. To address this challenge, we immobilized [Rh(Cp*)(bpy)Cl]⁺ onto the Zr₆ nodes of NU-1000 that was in situ grown on the surface of graphite felt, using solvent-assisted ligand incorporation, and applied it in a flow bioreactor. Then, we employed a gas diffusion electrode to oxidize H₂, providing a clean proton source for the electrochemical regeneration of NADH. In enzymatic electrocatalytic synthesis using L-lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) as a model reaction, the system achieved total turnover numbers of 19600 and 1750 for [Rh(Cp*)(bpy)Cl]⁺ and NAD⁺, respectively, after 48 hours, with turnover frequencies reaching 2350 h⁻¹ and 210 h⁻¹, demonstrating excellent catalytic performance. Additionally, this study also explores the development of electrodes for the selective regeneration of NADH driven by H₂. Among the materials evaluated, Pt-NU-1000-GF electrode shows exceptional regeneration efficiency, being 49 times higher than that of the Pt-GF electrode, with selectivity exceeding 99%. Mechanistic studies revealed that the Pt nanoparticles lowered the surface potential, enabling the efficient transfer of electrons to Rh complexes and facilitating the production of fully active NADH. The electrode also maintained 72% of its activity after 5 runs, indicating impressive stability for practical applications. Furthermore, the research investigated the potential for simultaneous NAD⁺ regeneration and H₂ production using the Pt-Rh-NU-1000. Although NAD⁺ regeneration improved under acidic conditions, H₂ production was limited due to insufficient catalyst activity and possible side reactions. These findings highlight the challenges and opportunities in developing efficient systems for sustainable energy and chemical processes. Additionally, efforts also were made to increase the pore size of MOFs for the co-immobilization of cobaltocene and enzymes within the MOF, aiming to reduce mass transfer distances and further enhance the efficiency of NADH regeneration. In summary, this study explores the complex interactions within the developed catalytic systems and lays the groundwork for future research in bioconversion technologies and renewable energy applications, emphasizing the critical role of effective cofactor management in enzymatic processes and showcasing the sustainable prospects of hydrogen catalysis for industrial applications.
