Understanding the intersection between marine nature and culture is a basis for sustainable coastal development. In this frame the Carloforte tonnara, one of the last fixed Thunnus thynnus trap in the Mediterranean, represent a significant case study. Since until about thirty years ago the life of local community was closely linked to the fishing activities, but the evolution of the fish market at a global scale has radically interrupted it. In 2021 the author of this contribution created Tunèa1, an arts-based research in action project, aimed to re-create the lost relationship in new forms.

The contributions to this book provide historical systematic studies on the question of panentheism, which has been intensively discussed since the turn of the millennium. In contrast to focusing on restrictive or extensive use of the concept of panentheism, this work illuminates a middle ground between dualistic theism and monistic pantheism. In this respect, the God–world relationship is primarily determined by thinking in terms of unity in difference. A clear criteriology can then distinguish positions of relational theism and reciprocal, double-relational panentheism, which are probed and exemplified through relevant approaches. Beyond the German area of debate, the contributions also consider the approaches of Descartes and Spinoza, Schelling, Lotze, Bracken, Bishop/Perszyk and Clayton, among others. With contributions by Dr. Dr. Florian Baab, Dr. Jonas Erulo, Prof. Dr. Dr. Bernhard Nitsche and Dr. Dennis Stammer.

Anhand zahlreicher - zum Teil bisher unveröffentlichter - schriftlicher und bildlicher Quellen wird analysiert, wie die Zeitgenossen schwere Stürme wahrgenommen, gedeutet, bewältigt und erinnert haben. In International Law and Transition to Peace in Colombia, César Rojas-Orozco analyses the role of international law in transition from armed conflict to peace, by using the analytical framework of jus post bellum and Colombia as a case study. While contemporary attention to jus post bellum has focused on its theoretical development and regarding international warfare, this book is the first work to comprehensively assess the concept in practice and in the context of a non-international armed conflict. Discussing the creative formulas adopted in Colombia to conciliate international legal requirements and the practical needs of peace, the book offers concrete elements to understand the concept of jus post bellum as a framework to guide other transitions around the world. Readership: Scholars and practitioners interested in the role of international law at peacemaking and peacebuilding, in the concept of jus post bellum, and in the Colombian transition to peace.

The essay places I piccoli maestri in a postulated anti-rhetorical and anti-heroic current in the literature of the Resistance (including Fenoglio and Calvino); and reads the irony, the sense of humour and the hero-comic as expressive modalities that aim to subvert both the fascist rhetoric and the mythologized images of the Resistance that contemporary literature tended to portray.

Albert the Great makes wide use of Arabic scientific and philosophical sources, in both his autonomous theological works and his commentaries on Aristotle’s corpus. This contribution aims to explore a set of ten Arabic arguments for the incorporeal nature of the human rational soul that Albert quotes in extenso in at least four important works of his: i) De homine (written around 1242), ii) De anima (1254–7), iii) De natura et origine animae (post 1254–7), and iv) the second, possibly inauthentic part of Summa theologiae sive de mirabili scientia Dei (post 1274). While alternatively attributed by Albert to both Avicenna and Algazel or to the sole Avicenna, the ten proofs constitute in fact a largely verbatim quotation of a lengthy excerpt of the psychological section of al-Ġazālī’s Maqāṣid al-falāsifa [The Intentions of the Philosophers] (Latin Summa theoricae philosophiae). In tracing the variations and additions provided by Albert with respect to al-Ġazālī’s text, and the specific role played by the proofs in their new Albertinian contexts, this contribution will add some fresh material to the well-known historical transmission of Arabic psychology to Latin Scholasticism.

Advancing Health Equity for All captures stories of lived experience and additional research from 30 experts who presented at the Equity Summit, hosted by Tulane University Celia Scott Weatherhead School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and sponsored by RWJF in December 2022. The Gulf Coast region—with its rich culture and resources, its aching poverty and enduring structural racism, and the intensifying immediacy of a changing climate—offers a window into the interwoven risks that lie before the entire nation. Yet the region’s rich culture and resources also offer a measure of hope, exemplified by the vigorous, equity-oriented work that is unfolding along so many intersecting pathways. A starting point in any power-building effort is to define community, or, more accurately, to ask people how they define their own communities—geography, history, ethnicity, religion, and gender identity are potential commonalities that encourage people to stand together. In this volume, we consider many kinds of communities and the relationships within and across them that can seed transformation. Local leadership is key, allowing those most directly affected by inequity to determine their own action agenda, construct the research questions and data-gathering techniques needed to pursue it, and establish indicators and outcomes of success as they seek it. RWJF’s commitment is to help communities build the capacity necessary to do that.

Nowadays, one of the main objectives of the fruit and vegetable industry is to develop innovative novel products with high quality, safety, and optimal nutritional characteristics in order to respond, with efficiency, to increasing consumer expectations. Various unconventional technologies (e.g., pulsed electric field, pulsed light, ultrasound, high pressure, and microwave drying) have emerged and enable the processing of fruits and vegetables in a way that increases their stability while preserving their thermolabile nutrients, flavour, texture, and overall quality. Some of these technologies can also be used for waste and byproduct valorisation. The application of fast noninvasive methods for process control is of great importance for the fruit and vegetable industry. The following Special Issue “Safety, Quality, and Processing of Fruits and Vegetables” consists of 11 papers which represent a high-value contribution to the existing knowledge on safety aspects, quality evaluation, and emerging processing technologies for fruits and vegetables.
