This open access book invites readers into an exploration of visual experiences, cultural narratives, and creative expressions of Black girlhood. This work weaves together photographs, storytelling, and critical analysis to illuminate the rich tapestry of visuals. Through a blend of examining black girlhood, Black feminist theory, and photographs the book examines how societal visual perceptions and representations shapes the lives of Black girls. Furthermore, the author brings together these ideas to create Black girlhood as Oppositional Knowledge or BGVOK. A process and a product which is outlined throughout the narrative of the book. This book is an essential read for anyone who is interested in understanding the intersections of race, age, gender, and visual culture. Promoting social inclusion is central both in the legislation guiding social work and in its professional ethical principles. Although promoting social inclusion is considered a self-evident task in social work, it has nevertheless remained surprisingly vague as a concept, theoretical framework, and practice. This edited volume [Social Inclusion in Social Work] organizes and clarifies theoretical and methodological discussions about social inclusion within the discipline of social work through multiple perspectives and methods. The chapters of the book reflect on different approaches to social inclusion and how it is realized in practice, thereby strengthening the theoretical and practical knowledge base around social inclusion, while also raising important questions for further consideration. The chapters examine social inclusion across various fields and contexts of social work and services, such as social work with families with children and with young adults, adult social work, outreach work with older adults, social work with migrants, social work with people with disabilities, and social work with women in prison. Organized by life stages, the book focuses particularly on youth, young adults, adults, and older people as clients of social work and services. Social inclusion is approached not only from the clients' perspective but also from the viewpoint of professionals working in social work and services.

Jean-Marie de la Mennais (1780-1860), le fondateur des Frères de l'Instruction chrétienne, est beaucoup moins connu que son frère Félicité. Il est pourtant, comme le démontre fort bien l'ouvrage de Pierre Perrin, l'une des figures de proue de l'enseignement congréganiste en Bretagne. Convaincu que seul un enseignement religieux peut former l'homme tout entier, l'abbé de la Mennais est en effet présent sur tous les fronts de la scolarisation : instruction des campagnes bretonnes, éducation gratuite des filles et formation des institutrices laïques, développement de l'enseignement pour les esclaves dans les colonies, formation théologique du clergé. L'organisation de ses écoles, le choix des méthodes d'apprentissage (notamment son refus de l'enseignement mutuel), l'expérimentation d'un enseignement professionnel et agricole mais aussi ses luttes contre l'administration et ses prises de position sur les grandes lois de l'éducation s'inscrivent dans une histoire dynamique du débat pédagogique et des enjeux idéologiques qu'il recouvre : il s'agit là de défendre la liberté de l'enseignement et de Combattre le monopole universitaire. Cet ouvrage, clair et équilibré, devrait retenir l'attention de ceux qui s'intéressent tant à l'histoire religieuse qu'à celle de l'enseignement. Peut-être même réveillera-t-il la mémoire de l'« Ignorantin breton ». Pierre Perrin est chargé d'enseignement à l'IUT de Brest et enseigne la philosophie dans un lycée agricole. Schulische Übertritte sind seit einiger Zeit Gegenstand erziehungs- und bildungswissenschaftlicher Forschungsdiskurse. Gerade im mehrgliedrigen Schulsystem Österreichs zeigen sich an diesen Übergängen vielfältige Exklusionsmechanismen. In der vorliegenden Forschungsarbeit geht der Autor der Frage nach, welche Habitusformationen bei einem Übertritt von der Mittelschule in die gymnasiale Oberstufe rekonstruiert werden können und was die Ergebnisse für eine inklusive und ungleichheitsreflexive Schul- und Unterrichtsentwicklung leisten können. Hierfür führte der Autor eine qualitative Interviewstudie mit ehemaligen Mittelschüler*innen in Österreich, 12 Wochen nach ihrem Übertritt, durch.

This Element presents evidence for the formation of a universalism-particularism cleavage across European party systems that diverge strongly on institutional and political characteristics. This title is also available as Open Access on Cambridge Core.

L’entrée en guerre des États-Unis le 6 avril 1917 marque un tournant dans l’histoire du conflit. L’arrivée des premières troupes américaines à Saint-Nazaire le 26 juin est le prélude au transfert en Europe de plus de deux millions de soldats, accompagnés de nombreux civils. Au-delà du poids politique et militaire de cette intervention, toujours discuté, ses apports culturels ont provoqué des bouleversements profonds qui ont durablement affecté les sociétés européennes. Quels sont l’ampleur de ce phénomène, sa temporalité, ses modalités, ses acteurs, sa place dans le processus d’américanisation de l’Europe au xxe siècle ? Les différentes échelles d’analyse, continentale, nationale et locale (Nantes et Saint-Nazaire) permettent de rendre compte des diverses formes d’échanges et de transferts, y compris lors de la conférence de la Paix. Une image très positive de l’Amérique se déploie alors dans toute l’Europe, symbolisant l’espoir d’un monde nouveau. Cependant, au-delà de l’émotion populaire bien réelle qu’elle suscite, la présence américaine, massive mais finalement brève et souvent superficielle, provoque également des rejets et laisse, dans la région de l’Ouest, des traces éphémères. Elle renforce toutefois incontestablement l’intensité des relations transatlantiques et marque une nouvelle phase dans l’émergence d’un monde globalisé.

Seguramente la mayoría de los observadores de las relaciones de México con Estados Unidos coincidiría que en 1986 no hubo un mejoramiento en esas relaciones, sobre todo por lo que atañe a sus aspectos formales. Ésta es también la impresión que se consigna en muchos de los trabajos que integran este nuevo anuario. Los temas tratados no se circunscriben únicamente a los sucesos registrados durante ese año. Desde este punto de vista su alcance es mayor y es de esperar que también lo sea el interés que despierten.

In the aviation field there is great interest in high-speed vehicle design. Hypersonic vehicles represent the next frontier of passenger transportation to and from space. However, several design issues must be addressed, including vehicle aerodynamics and aerothermodynamics, aeroshape design optimization, aerodynamic heating, boundary layer transition, and so on. This book contains valuable contributions focusing on hypervelocity aircraft design. Topics covered include hypersonic aircraft aerodynamic and aerothermodynamic design, especially aeroshape design optimization, computational fluid dynamics, and scramjet propulsion. The book also discusses high-speed flow issues and the challenges to achieving the dream of affordable hypersonic travel. It is hoped that the information contained herein will allow for the development of safe and efficient hypersonic vehicles.

La pureté en question examine les fondements historiques et scripturaires de l’idéal de pureté partagé par les juifs et les chrétiens à la fin du Moyen Âge en péninsule Ibérique. Le croisement des sources théoriques et des documents de la pratique, des sources latines, hébraïques et vernaculaires met en évidence la façon dont ce thème majeur de la littérature biblique et talmudique s’est perpétué à travers les siècles et a eu des incidences nombreuses sur la vie quotidienne des hommes au xve s. La réflexion débouche sur des questions centrales pour l’histoire de la minorité juive en péninsule Ibérique : le passage de l’antijudaïsme à l’antisémitisme, l’apparition du concept de race, la prépondérance du sang dans l’assignation à une identité, le poids de l’accusation de crime rituel, l’incrimination des non chrétiens dans une société Ibérique de plus en plus exclusive, la discrimination et la ségrégation pour s’en protéger jusqu’à l’expulsion.

Terrestrial and marine environments are inexhaustible sources of compounds and active extracts which have been employed in medicine since ancient times. The aim of this reprint is to collect new approaches around compounds and extracts isolated from natural products and their biological activity, with a focus on anti-inflammatory pathways. Thus, this reprint compiles full original papers and reviews articles published during 2023 in a Special Issue of Life, titled “Inflammation and Natural products”. The publications within this reprint are focused on secondary metabolites of plants demonstrating significant antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, among others, and clinical relevance in various pathological conditions. It also includes reviews that focus on natural therapies for topics such as arthritis, lung diseases, neuroprotection, skin photoprotection, and the impact of gender in the use of medicinal plants in relation to vascular diseases. The reprint of this Special Issue will serve as a reference text for researchers and academics, as well as those studying natural products and their pharmacological activities.

Diese Open-Access-Publikation greift den aktuellen Forschungsstand zu kultureller Diversität in der Teamarbeit auf und vertieft die Prozessperspektive. Teamprozesse werden als zusammenhängende, strukturbildende Aktivitäten verstanden und als ausschlaggebend für die Diversitätsmanifestation erachtet. Die Ergebnisse der qualitativen, explorativen Feldstudie zeigen, dass Diversität sich in spezifischen Teamprozessen manifestiert. Sechzehn Prozesse in sieben Gruppen werden vorgestellt, die parallel und mehrzyklisch verlaufen. Die Ergebnisse implizieren, dass Teamprozesse die Grundlagen für Diversitätsuntersuchung bieten sollten und der prozessuale Kontext bei Diversitätserhebungen berücksichtigt werden muss. Eine Forschungslogik wird vorgeschlagen, die die Salienz von Prozessen über einen Zeitraum hinweg fokussiert, um Dynamiken und Abhängigkeiten der Diversitätsmanifestation weiter zu analysieren. ; 1. Young pediatric surgeons usually look for a comprehensive textbook updating their surgical knowledge and skills in a simple way. This is the idea behind the project of this series regarding pediatric surgical procedures. We try to update theoretical information, clinical decision-making, and surgical steps via chapters with many illustrations and figures that could guide the surgeon’s decisions and pave the way for competent training and skills improvement. In this Volume I, six chapters are included, starting with a general section covering general anaesthesia background for pediatric laparoscopic surgery. Then, Section 2 presents two reconstructive major procedures with more than 10 figures in each, including cleft lip/palate repair and neurogenic bladder. Topics cover areas from head to neck, chest to inguinal canal, and urinary bladder. Section 3, comprising three chapters, provides updated knowledge on pediatric inguinal hernia in two chapters, while the final chapter offers a comprehensive update on thymectomy in children. This will hopefully appetize the readers for future volumes, as the submission will include a complete view of all surgical specialities dealing with children, infants, and neonates. In this new and updated guide for different pediatric surgery procedures, we hope that we give a hand to all pediatric surgeons, whether residents or specialists, to improve in the wide pediatric surgery field.
