This compilation of documents has been prepared by the Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders and Focal Point on Reprisals in Africa of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, Commissioner Rémy Ngoy Lumbu, with the assistance of the Centre for Human Rights, Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria. The aim of this compilation is to bring together all the most relevant documents concerning the protection of human rights defenders in Africa, adopted under the auspices of the United Nations, the Council of Europe, the European Union, the OSCE and the African Union. This publication, which appears for the first time in 2018, is timely for two particular reasons: The year 2018 marks 20 years since the adoption by the UN General Assembly of the Declaration on Human Rights Defenders. In 2018, human rights across the world, and in Africa, have increasingly made the target of government attack and recrimination.

This fourth NAFOL book is yet another important contribution to the knowledge field about and for teacher education. Like earlier NAFOL books, it contains a collection of research articles on value and validity in teacher education research that crosses national borders, academic disciplines, and not least levels of education—from kindergarten to upper secondary school and doctoral training. With articles from England, Austria, Italy, Iceland, and Norway, the book offers insights into contemporary international teacher education research, particularly as data have been collected from Belarus and across Europe. In this book as well, we have chosen to keep the original language of the articles, and we are pleased to see more Norwegian researchers joining the international research community by writing in English. At the same time, it is important to safeguard Norwegian as a language of research communication, and the book seeks to strike a balance between international and national dissemination. There is great diversity in both research topics and research methods, which characterizes the field. NAFOL is central to this positive development with its more than 200 former and current doctoral fellows. The NAFOL books—and especially this one—offer a good picture of today’s teacher education research. NAFOL’s work and contributions are known far beyond Norway, and this book symbolizes the international dialogue on teacher education research in which NAFOL actively participates. The book is a unique resource for researchers who wish to stay updated on Norwegian and international teacher education research.

Vividly illustrated, this is the first comprehensive catalogue of the J. Paul Getty Museum's celebrated collection of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century French silver. The collection of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century French silver at the J. Paul Getty Museum is of exceptional quality and state of preservation. Each piece is remarkable for its beauty, inventive form, skillful execution, illustrious provenance, and the renown of its maker. This volume is the first complete study of these exquisite objects, with more than 250 color photographs bringing into focus extraordinary details such as minuscule makers' marks, inscriptions, and heraldic armorials. The publication details the formation of the Museum's collection of French silver, several pieces of which were selected by J. Paul Getty himself, and discusses the regulations of the historic Parisian guild of gold- and silversmiths that set quality controls and consumer protections. Comprehensive entries catalogue a total of thirty-three pieces with descriptions, provenance, exhibition history, and technical information. The related commentaries shed light on the function of these objects and the roles they played in the daily lives of their prosperous owners. The book also includes maker biographies and a full bibliography. The free online edition of this open-access publication is available at getty.edu/publications/french-silver/ and includes 360-degree views and zoomable high-resolution photography. Also available are free PDF and EPUB downloads of the book, and JPG downloads of the main catalogue images.

This book titled "Functional Genomics" contains a selection of chapters focused on crucial topics in functional genomics, from the analysis of the genetic code, to the understanding of the role of the different genes and to the proteomic implications. The book provides an overview on basic issues and some of the recent developments in medicinal science and technology. Covering all the aspects involved in such a broad theme as functional genomics and in all its applications would be impossible within the same book. The different chapters represent a brief introduction to the topic, connecting the most promising developments in functional genomics technologies, focusing on specific applications in biomedicine, agro-food technologies and zootechniques.

"Like Any Other Woman speaks to the suffering that cancer causes, and to the profound human experience of renegotiating the physical and emotional balance between sickness and health when that balance is tipped by the onset of disease. A profound and moving collaboration between an artist and a young woman who has endured the impact of a cancer diagnosis and its consequences, this is not a book about the cancer itself, the medical world of causes, symptoms, interventions and treatment regimes. It is rather about what it feels like when all sense of normality, all the expectations of a future that accompany good health, suddenly become submerged in degrees of suffering that impact both on the individual and on the people who care for and about her. Like Any Other Woman is illustrated with original artwork by Jac Saorsa, taken from the Drawing Women’s Cancer project."

We are pleased to present a Special Issue of Languages on the topic of Sign Language Emergence. Sign languages are the only extant languages that can be caught in the act of being born and developing with no model, and they, therefore, offer the only empirical evidence for language emergence in human societies. We have brought together a collection of articles on emerging sign languages that contribute a great deal to our current understanding of this process. This Special Issue covers eleven different emerging sign languages around the world. The articles deal with several aspects of language emergence, including, most notably: (1) the relationship between the emerging language and the culture of the larger society; (2) the role of iconicity in the emergence of sign language; (3) the relationship between the shared context in a small signing community and the degree of variation in the vocabulary; and (4) the vulnerability of budding sign languages. Spoken creole languages are also young, but are different from emerging sign languages, in that the speakers of pidgins from which creoles are assumed to have descended already had native languages. One article compares the features of creoles and of emerging sign languages. We are especially pleased with the diversity and breadth of interests of the contributors to the volume, who are based on four continents. The languages that they cover are equally diverse in their geographical provenance.
