This Special Issue is dedicated to the latest developments in the field of sustainable construction through the utilization of optimization tools and experimental methods. On the one hand, this Special Issue aims to publish influential and innovative articles that deal with the challenges of construction sustainability through the use of optimization tools that involve either exact mathematical programming or meta-/hyper-/bio-heuristics, alternative hybrid approaches, or multi-criteria decision-making techniques. On the other hand, field or laboratory research on materials, products, structures, objects, or operations often provides key data for developing optimization models. Therefore, research engaging with experimental methods to address current issues associated with sustainable construction is also covered by this volume. Moreover, scientific works combining optimization tools and experimental methods to reach synergistic effects in favor of sustainable construction are included within this Special Issue as well.

A computed tomography (CT) scan uses X-rays and a computer to create detailed images of the inside of the body. CT scanners measure, versus different angles, X-ray attenuations when passing through different tissues inside the body through rotation of both X-ray tube and a row of X-ray detectors placed in the gantry. These measurements are then processed using computer algorithms to reconstruct tomographic (cross-sectional) images. CT can produce detailed images of many structures inside the body, including the internal organs, blood vessels, and bones. This book presents a comprehensive overview of CT scanning. Chapters address such topics as instrumental basics, CT imaging in coronavirus, radiation and risk assessment in chest imaging, positron emission tomography (PET), and feature extraction.

This book provides a comprehensive analysis of key challenges in competition within digital markets, drawing on both legal and economic perspectives. Alongside an overview by Advocate General Juliane Kokott et al. examining recent jurisprudence of the EU courts on the abuse of dominance, the authors address topics including economic approaches in case law, the classification of behaviors increasingly observed in digital markets under the prohibitions on anti-competitive agreements (algorithmic collusion, collective bargaining for platform workers) and the abuse of dominance (employee poaching, self-preferencing), market structure control (killer acquisitions, § 32f GWB), and the regulation of major digital platforms (§ 19a GWB, Digital Markets Act). This reprint deals with the central theme of philosophy of law and legal theory, namely the relationship between truth and justice. This presupposes that we always have true knowledge—that is, verifiable facts—and the intellectual ability to theoretically and historically correctly ascertain and analyse the question of justice. A modern philosopher of law who has formulated this issue excellently in his work is Ronald Dworkin (1931-2013). Therefore, he is the common point of reference for all our contributions to "Justice based on Truth". In addition, great philosophers of the past such as Thomas Aquinas, Baruch de Spinoza, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz or Lon Fuller, to whom our authors devote themselves, have commented on these questions. Finally, time-tested folk wisdom such as the traditional Chinese doctrine of the use of stratagems in life or the modern theory of transitional justice in civil war-like conflicts can also perform these functions.

Immunization plays a key role in maintaining human health and each year, saves millions of lives from lethal pathogens and other fatal diseases in the most economical way, thanks to the advanced development of model vaccines. Subunit vaccines are regarded as a safer product than the whole microbe based-conventional vaccines and can be entrapped in various nanocarriers to form a vaccine adjuvant-delivery system (VADS) able to further boost their immunostimulatory activity. In this book, six groups of authors introduce immunization advances in VADSs designed for infection prophylaxis and cancer immunotherapy, problems and their resolution in both human and poultry immunization, and also, the mathematical model for assay of the basic immunization problem (BIP) understood from a finance point of view.

With the democratization of publishing tools made possible by Web 2.0 at the turn of the 2000s—at a time when social media did not yet exist—blogging became widespread, encompassing every topic and style. In Quebec, as in other cultural spheres, a constellation of literary blogs emerged—a cultural phenomenon that remains, even today, under-studied given its significance for generations of young authors. The contributions gathered here therefore aim to revisit and update the main literary questions—simultaneously formal, sociological, and communicational—raised by blogs since the mid-2000s, focusing on the Quebec corpus. This portrait explores issues related to authorial figures, the poetics of writing, and the relationship with the techno-editorial constraints of the blog, as well as with the communities thus formed, on the margins of literary institutions.

What is love? Popular culture bombards us with notions of the intoxicating capacities of love or of beguiling women who can bewitch or heal—to the point that it is easy to believe that such images are timeless and universal. Not so, argues Laine Doggett in Love Cures. Aspects of love that are expressed in popular music—such as “love is a drug,” “sexual healing,” and “love potion number nine”—trace deep roots to Old French romance of the high Middle Ages. A young woman heals a poisoned knight. A mother prepares a love potion for a daughter who will marry a stranger in a faraway land. How can readers interpret such events? In contrast to scholars who have dismissed these women as fantasy figures or labeled them “witches,” Doggett looks at them in the light of medical and magical practices of the high Middle Ages. Love Cures argues that these practitioners, as represented in romance, have shaped modern notions of love. Love Cures seeks to engage scholars of love, marriage, and magic in disciplines as diverse as literature, history, anthropology, and philosophy.

How the construction of Muslim boys as proto-terrorists is integral to the story of American racial capitalism How do we understand an incident where a five-year-old Muslim boy arrives at Dulles airport and is preemptively detained as a “threat”? To answer that question, Shenila Khoja-Moolji examines American public culture, arguing that Muslim boyhood has been invented as a threat within an ideology that seeks to predict future terrorism. Muslim boyhood bridges actual past terrorism and possible future events, justifying preemptive enclosure, surveillance, and punishment. Even in the occasional reframing of individual Muslim boys as innocent, Khoja-Moolji identifies a pattern of commodity antiracism, through which elites buy public goodwill but leave intact the collective anti-Muslim notion that fuels an expanding carceral and security state. Framing Muslim boyhood as a heuristic device, she turns to a discussion of Hindutva ideology in India to show how Muslim boyhood may be resituated in global contexts.
