In the past few decades, several interesting problems have been solved using fixed point theory. In addition to classical ordinary differential equations and integral equation, researchers also focus on fractional differential equations (FDE) and fractional integral equations (FIE). Indeed, FDE and FIE lead to a better understanding of several physical phenomena, which is why such differential equations have been highly appreciated and explored. We also note the importance of distinct abstract spaces, such as quasi-metric, b-metric, symmetric, partial metric, and dislocated metric. Sometimes, one of these spaces is more suitable for a particular application. Fixed point theory techniques in partial metric spaces have been used to solve classical problems of the semantic and domain theory of computer science. This book contains some very recent theoretical results related to some new types of contraction mappings defined in various types of spaces. There are also studies related to applications of the theoretical findings to mathematical models of specific problems, and their approximate computations. In this sense, this book will contribute to the area and provide directions for further developments in fixed point theory and its applications.

Health literacy and low health literacy have received increased attention due to their association with poor understanding of health information, and consequently negative health outcomes. Although much research discusses health literacy and its role; there are gaps in explaining the relationship between health literacy and low literacy; as well as various determinants of health (i.e., social, cultural, political, etc.). This relationship is particularly significant for lower- and middle-income countries where most clients might not even speak English as a first language or the same language of the health care providers.

Electronic Iran introduces the concept of the Iranian Internet, a framework that captures interlinked, transnational networks of virtual and offline spaces. Taking her cues from early Internet ethnographies that stress the importance of treating the Internet as both a site and product of cultural production, accounts in media studies that highlight the continuities between old and new media, and a range of works that have made critical interventions in the field of Iranian studies, Niki Akhavan traces key developments and confronts conventional wisdom about digital media in general, and contemporary Iranian culture and politics in particular. Akhavan focuses largely on the years between 1998 and 2012 to reveal a diverse and combative virtual landscape where both geographically and ideologically dispersed individuals and groups deployed Internet technologies to variously construct, defend, and challenge narratives of Iranian national identity, society, and politics.l

Charge transport and charge transfer (CT) capabilities of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) are investigated. A QM/MM multi-scale framework is applied to calculate the CT capabilities of DNA under conditions resembling the experimental setup. The simulations are able to explain and predict the outcome of experiments and therefore make suggestions in advance. Based on the findings, suitable DNA sequences can be opted for the design of DNA-based devices as nano-scale electronic elements.

Rapid growth in algorithms and computing power over recent years has spurred the emergence of machine learning and image processing techniques as new tools, which are rapidly entering every aspect of our life, from intelligent personal assistance such as Siri, Alexa, and Google Home to self-driving cars. The medical community has begun taking advantage of these new possibilities to create new predictive models and improve existing models. For example, novel methods applying machine learning and image processing/analysis methods that are robust and theoretically sound to solve the learning task efficiently and intuitively have become widespread across different facets of biomedical imaging for identifying complex patterns. Likewise, advances in biomedical imaging may lead to new technologies for developing predictive models for all diseases and guide the decision of who should receive preventive therapy.

Where is medieval philosophy going? It is going to where philosophy is. And it is there where philosophy is going. It became medieval once the Middle Ages were over. It was only philosophy when the Middle Ages were still saeculum modernorum, the “century of the Moderns”, for those living in it. Today, it is going there where she or he who wants to recount, that is, to relate its history, must go. The archaeology of the subject draws us, in any case, through space and time, from the Council of...

The American singer and songwriter Dorian Electra is a queer phenomenon. Their dandy appearance – the latest album is called Flamboyant (2017) – goes hand in hand with the criticism of toxic masculinity and gender binarism. One of their latest tracks, called "Adam and Steve", is a gay retelling of the Genesis story. It turns on the derogative phrase: It‘s Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve that is used to imply an irreconcilable disparity between Christianity and gay love, i.e. queerness in general ...

Neonatal sepsis still remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in the newborn, particularly in preterm, low birth weight infants. Despite advances in neonatal care, overall case-fatality rates from sepsis may be as high as 50%. Clinical signs of bacterial infection are vague and non-specific, and up to now there exists no easily available, reliable marker of infection despite a large bulk of studies focussing on inflammatory indices in neonatology. Every neonatologist is faced with the uncertainty of under- or over- diagnosing bacterial infection. In this book three topics will be discussed: clinical presentation including a general approach to sepsis neonatorum and two distinct diagnoses pneumonia and osteomyelitis diagnostic approaches including C-reactive protein and the immature myeloid information, and prevention and treatment of bacterial infection with immunoglobulins.
