Interdisciplinary cooperation enables the two authors to precicly localize and date one of the most lavishly produced manuscript of a medieval German epic during 15th century. With the combination of art-historical and linguistic methods the “Münchener Jüngere Titurel” (BSB, Cgm 8470) – hithero beliefed to be of Tyrolian or Vienese origin – was dated (c. 1430/35) and localised (Regensburg). The exemplary study proves the potential of cooperations within the humanities.

The aim of this book is to collect the newest contributions by eminent authors in the field of NDT-SHM, both at the material and structure scale. It therefore provides novel insight at experimental and numerical levels on the application of NDT to a wide variety of materials (concrete, steel, masonry, composites, etc.) in the field of Civil Engineering and Architecture.

The lack of a room in the architectural block of a house that would serve the function of a kitchen – a feature of unicameral housing built for workers before World War II. Only the collected and spaced out equipment and objects established the landscape of the kitchen (people and objects), in which the residents cooperated and which “evoked” certain interactive responses from the human side. In the article, from the perspective of residential habitation, I look at objects and their structuring within a fragment of the space of a flat called a kitchen. I rely on the material collected during many years of research on the interior of housing for workers’ families, which I conducted with students of ethnology at the turn of the seventies and eighties of the twentieth century in Lodz, among residents of tenement houses and family homes built by manufacturers for “their” workers. Among the collected accounts, I choose the ones that the workers who deal with the families lived in the same apartments before and after the war, because I want to look at living as a practice that connects with generational staying in a certain space and passing patterns of her domestication.

How do Black African diasporic literatures articulate the desire for elsewhere and the struggle to belong? Drawing on a comparative corpus of texts written in French and Spanish, Nelson Sindze Wembe examines how migration, return, and disillusion shape diasporic subjectivities at the intersection of racialisation, alterity, and the politics of belonging. Conceptualising longing as a psychological and symbolic motor, he shows how it structures processes of affiliation, identity formation, and encounters with the Other. By foregrounding contradiction, ambivalence, and in-between positions, the study offers an original contribution to Black African diaspora studies and contemporary literary theory.

What is Time? Assuming no prior specialized knowledge by the reader, the book raises specific, hitherto overlooked questions about how time works, such as how and why anyone can be made to be, at the very same instant, simultaneous with events that are actually days apart. It examines abiding issues in the physics of time or at its periphery which still elude a full explanation ? such as delayed choice experiments, the brain's perception of time during saccadic masking, and more ? and suggests that these phenomena can only exist because they ultimately obey applicable mathematics, thereby agreeing with a modern view that the universe and everything within it, including the mind, are ultimately mathematical structures. It delves into how a number of conundrums, such as the weak Anthropic Principle, could be resolved, and how such resolutions could be tested experimentally. All its various threads converge towards a same new vision of the ultimate essence of time, seen as a side effect from a deeper reality.

This book is mainly for researchers interested in the new developments and applications of metabolomics. It is also important for physicians using metabolomic approaches in the diagnosis of diseases or treatment, and for postgraduate students starting their research projects on metabolomics. The book is divided into two sections as indicated from its title, namely: new insights into biology and new insights into medicine. It gives examples of the different applications of metabolomics from the production of biosurfactants by marine microorganisms to the applications of data from fecal metabolomics, serum metabolomics, and metabolomics of microbiota, as well as the use of Chinese medicines for cancer treatment. Overall, this is a well-written book, containing some very interesting research avenues and cutting-edge approaches. Finally, the editing of this book was of special interest to me and I hope that readers will also find it stimulating.

Sinopsis A lo largo del presente manuscrito se pretende mostrar cuatro capítulos derivados de trabajos resultado de investigación de la Maestría en Pedagogía, que responden al siguiente interrogante: ¿cómo se implementa las estrategias de enseñanza y aprendizaje adecuadas al contexto de los estudiantes? Desde esta pregunta problema se direcciona el desarrollo de cada uno de ellos, teniendo en cuenta su estructura individual: introducción, fundamentación teórica, metodología, resultados, discusión y conclusiones.

Huntington's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder of the brain. It is one of the quite devastating and currently incurable human conditions. Degeneration of specific types of neurons in the brain results in a triad of clinical features: serious behavioral disturbances, uncontrolled movements of body parts, and deterioration of intellectual capabilities. The underlying complex mechanisms and molecular players of the cellular cascades still need to be deciphered in detail despite considerable advances. Once solved, the related molecular mechanisms will not only enlighten the HD story but will also shed light on other polyglutamine diseases and similar brain disorders. This book, Huntington's Disease-Molecular Pathogenesis and Current Models, is planned to cover recent scientific achievements in understanding the cellular mechanisms of HD. The chapters provide comprehensive description of the key issues in HD research. In this regard, this book will serve as a source for clinicians and researchers in the field and also for life science readers in increasing their understanding and awareness of the clinical correlates, genetic aspects, neuropathological findings, and potential therapeutic interventions related to HD.

The Special Issue “Liquid Crystal Optical Devices” discusses recent developments in the rapidly advancing subject of liquid crystals (LCs).

Au titre de la corvée royale, dite aussi des grands chemins, les habitants de nombreuses communautés riveraines d'un axe routier furent contraints pendant la majeure partie du xviiie siècle de fournir quelques jours de travail pour sa construction ou son entretien. Décrié comme arbitraire, oppressif et inefficient, ce système de réquisition œuvra puissamment à l'extension du réseau routier et indirectement à l'essor des mobilités et des circulations marchandes. C'est ce paradoxe que cherche à comprendre ce livre en se dégageant d'une représentation critique de la corvée, largement construite par le discours libéral des Lumières qui en fit une institution fondamentalement incompatible avec ses idéaux et la croissance économique. Or la décision de recourir à la corvée en travail et les modalités de son fonctionnement présentent une certaine rationalité dans le contexte dans lequel elle s'inscrit. Cette institution va se trouver travaillée dans la seconde moitié du xviiie siècle par des dynamiques sociales et économiques elles-mêmes fortement marquées par des différenciations spatiales. La transition entre une prestation en nature attachée à un statut fiscal et un impôt destiné à financer du travail salarié constitue alors plus largement un observatoire de l'action politique, de dynamiques économiques et de représentations sociales.

Swirl flows are used in a wide range of industrial applications. In non-reacting cases, examples of applications include vortex amplifiers and reactors, heat exchangers, jet pumps, and cyclone separators. In reacting cases, swirlers are widely used in combustion systems, such as gas turbines, industrial furnaces, boilers, gasoline and diesel engines, and many other practical heating devices. Effects of using swirl on flow and combustion are significant and varied, and concern, for example, aerodynamics, mixing, flame stability, intensity of combustion, and pollutant emissions. The purpose of this book is to present recent research efforts to understand and characterize swirling flows of different types and in different applications. These include gaseous, liquid, and solid fuels in order to enhance combustion systems and their energy efficiency. Swirl flows are very complex and the studies proposed in this project are based on different means, including theoretical calculations, numerical modeling, and experimental measurements.

Hospitäler entwickelten sich erst im 12. Jahrhundert zu eigenständigen Institutionen, wurden dann aber zu den wichtigsten Einrichtungen privater und öffentlicher caritas. Durch unterschiedliche methodische Ansätze und aus verschiedenen Quellengattungen wird hier die Heterogenität und institutionelle Vielfalt mittelalterlicher Hospitäler in den Blick genommen. Dies führt zu einem Themenspektrum, das von der inneren Verfassung dieser Einrichtungen, von den für sie geltenden Normen über die Finanzierung und die Memoria bis hin zu ernährungsgeschichtlichen und medizinhistorischen Fragen reicht. Dabei lassen sich die Autoren von der Erkenntnis leiten, dass es das mittelalterliche Hospital nicht gab, sondern dass jede einzelne Einrichtung ihr eigenes Gesicht besaß

This open access book examines key aspects of international cooperation to enhance nuclear safety, security, safeguards, and non-proliferation, thereby assisting in development and maintenance of the verification regime and fostering progress toward a nuclear weapon-free world. The book opens by addressing important political, institutional, and legal dimensions. Current challenges are discussed and attempts made to identify possible solutions and future improvements. Subsequent sections consider scientific developments that have the potential to increase the effectiveness of implementation of international regimes, particularly in critical areas, technology foresight, and the ongoing evaluation of current capabilities. The closing sections examine scientific and technical challenges and discuss the role of international cooperation and actions of the scientific community in leading the world toward peace and security. The book – which celebrates 60 years of IAEA Atoms for Peace and Development and the EURATOM Treaty – comprises contributions presented at the XX Edoardo Amaldi Conference, where eminent scientists, diplomats, and policymakers were able to compare national perspectives and update international collaborations.
