Beginning with early contributions by Maria Giovanna Piras, formerly a researcher in the Department of National Accounts at Istat, this volume documents the most recent developments in the sources and methods used to estimate the main macroeconomic aggregates and the analysis of their trends. The contents focus on the following topics: (i) strategy and communication of policies for the revision of national accounts and underlying indicators, adopted by Istat in accordance with European standards; (ii) new sources and models for their integration into the estimation of labor input of national accounts, so as to ensure their articulated representation according to the different components, including irregular and territorial (iii) labor market outcomes, demographic trends, and the growth of the Italian economy over the medium term, highlighting economic policy challenges to raise productivity, together fostering income convergence among regions; (iv) the use of new data sources and econometric techniques to preserve the accuracy of short-term forecasts despite recent exceptional events that have strengthened the transmission of global factors to cyclical conditions in a country.

The volume describes experiences of the first twelve years of the Social Sciences Library of the University of Florence in its new location. We talk about management contexts, organisational structures, analysis, projects, crises and solutions affecting most of the services. Moreover, we also present an approach and a working method. Our need to write stemmed from the impression of having accomplished a phase of our work and of being called to take stock of the situation, giving account of the work done and critically analysing it, in order to be ready to face the new challenges that the future would present, starting from today.

W książce zostały zaprezentowane wyniki najnowszych badań z zakresu historii politycznej czasów nowożytnych. W kręgu zainteresowań jej autorów znalazły się kwestie związane z dziejami wewnętrznymi i polityką zagraniczną Rzeczypospolitej Obojga Narodów, wybranych krajów europejskich oraz Stanów Zjednoczonych Ameryki Północnej w XVII i XVIII stuleciu. Publikacja jest zbiorem trzynastu wartościowych merytorycznie i nowatorskich studiów, opartych na obszernej bazie źródłowej i piśmienniczej, opracowanych zgodnie z wszelkimi zasadami warsztatu nauk historycznych. Depuis l'étude magistrale de Mickael Edwards, De l'émerveillement, qui promouvait l'irréductible capacité de découverte, d'étonnement et d'enthousiasme qui fonde notre culture depuis la philosophie platonicienne, il importait de révéler la persistance de cette humeur et de ce moteur, souvent passés sous silence par la modernité. À côté du désenchantement, de la crise des valeurs et de la nostalgie du sacré qui irriguent largement la littérature d'après la Révolution, du romantisme à la fin du xixe siècle, à côté de la mélancolie et du soupçon qui ont caractérisé le xxe siècle, certaines œuvres expriment pourtant le sens profane du miracle, le don de la surprise ou la révélation de l'épiphanie, et l'émerveillement, processus affectif et cognitif complexe, nourrit dans la modernité aussi bien le récit que la poésie. Optimization Algorithms - Classics and Last Advances is devoted to developing algorithm theory and exploring the use of different optimization algorithms for solving various problems in pure science, applied physics, and information technology. The book consists of two sections. The first focuses on developing abstract algorithms with subsequent applications to real-world optimization problems. It discusses optimization problems based on partial differential equations, canonical polyadic decomposition, variational approach, and ant colony optimization, which are discussed here. The second section presents problems related to optimization in information technologies. Chapters in this section address the utilization of optimization algorithms to solve problems of reducing computation time and computer memory, reducing kernel mechanism processing time in multimedia authoring tools, arranging access optimization for special applications, and minimizing resources for solving vehicle routing problems.

Quantum walks are a fascinating concept. They reveal the counterintuitive and complex dynamics imprinted on all particles underlying the laws of quantum mechanics. Amongst other phenomena, quantum walks show that atoms, electrons and photons propagate drastically faster than any classical particle due to their wavelike nature. In this book we give an introduction into the world of quantum walks and discuss their applications in quantum simulations and quantum computing. We present three innovative, optical experiments, which expose the astonishing properties of particles on a quantum walk. With the so-called „Quantum Walks in Time“-architecture we reveal the complete spectrum of single particle dynamics —ranging from a fast ballistic spread up to a strict localization effect— and investigate experimentally challenging two-particle effects, as the creation of bound states.

Bheki Mseleku is widely considered one of the most accomplished jazz musicians to have emerged from South Africa. The sensory nervous system is of critical importance in our daily lives and contributes to our personal well-being and safety as well as communication with others. However, it is only when disease or injury impair its function that we fully appreciate the relevance of our sensory modalities. During the past decades, research of our senses has seen an ever-growing interest in this exciting field of study.
