Der menschengemachte Klimawandel stellt für weite Teile der Weltbevölkerung eine existenzielle Bedrohung der Lebensgrundlagen dar. Seine Folgen treffen in ihrer Mehrzahl Personen und Gesellschaften, die mit ihren Ökonomien bislang am wenigsten zum Klimawandel beigetragen haben. Die daraus resultierenden Gefahren und die verschärfte globale ökonomische Ungleichheit führt auch zu weiteren und neuen Migrationsbedürfnissen. Der internationale Menschenrechtsschutz und das gegenwärtige Flüchtlingsrecht sind auf diese Formen der klimabedingten Migration bislang noch nicht eingestellt. Die vorliegende Studie ist das Ergebnis der FAU Human Rights Clinic 2022/23, in der sich Studierende der Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Deutschen Institut für Menschenrechte dem rechtlichen Rahmen der „Klimaflucht“ gewidmet haben. Die Studie analysiert die verschiedenen Schutzformen des geltenden Rechts und zeigt dessen Potentiale und Lücken, sowie rechtliche Auslegungs- und Argumentationsspielräume auf. Darüber hinaus stellt die Studie innovative Lösungsansätze und aktuelle Initiativen zur Reform der Rechtslage vor und bewertet diese aus menschenrechtlicher Perspektive.

Im Rahmen der aktuellen Modernisierungsprozesse des öffentlichen Sektors wird zu selten nach den eigentlichen Wirkungen staatlichen Handelns gefragt, wodurch permanent die Gefahr besteht, die falschen – da unwirksamen – öffentlichen Maßnahmen zu realisieren. Vor diesem Hintergrund verfolgt der Autor in seiner Arbeit das Ziel, die Etablierung wirkungsorientierter Controllingprozesse zu unterstützen, um Entscheidungen in Politik und Verwaltung konsequenter als bisher auf Wirkungen auszurichten. Bislang gelingt es in der Regel nur unzureichend, die mit einer öffentlichen Maßnahme verbundenen Wirkungen zweifelsfrei zu ermitteln und sie darüber hinaus auch noch einer objektiven Bewertung zu unterziehen. An dieser Stelle setzt die Arbeit an, indem ein standardisiertes Instrumentarium vorgestellt wird, welches eine strukturierte Identifikation und Bewertung der durch staatliches Handeln ausgelösten Wirkungen erlaubt. Der bislang eher abstrakt diskutierte Wirkungsbegriff kann durch die vorgestellte Methodik der Wirkungsanalyse leichter in bestehende Controllingprozesse eingebunden werden.

Since Georg Lukács and Karl Korsch in the 1920s, Hegelian Marxism has played a prominent role as a radical intellectual tradition in modern political theory. This anthology investigates how these Hegelian Marxists, in different historical, political and intellectual contexts during the last century, have employed Hegel’s philosophy with the aim of developing and renewing Marxist theory. Besides Lukács and Korsch the volume includes articles dealing with the thoughts of Herbert Marcuse, Theodor W. Adorno, Walter Benjamin, Evald Ilyenkov, Lucio Colletti and Slavoj Žižek. The overall purpose is to investigate if, and the degree to which, these thinkers could be interpreted as Hegelian Marxists, and how they use the Hegelian philosophy to better understand their own current society as well as situate themselves in relation to orthodox forms of Marxism. Taken together, the articles can hopefully contribute to an intensification of discussions about the critical and self-criticalphilosophy of Marxism today.

This Special Issue on “Migrants and Human Rights Protections” delves into human rights law’s enduring struggles to extend protections to migrants. The contributions engage with this subject-matter from a wide range of perspectives that bring to the fore both the universal and particular in migrants’ experiences of human rights protection regimes across countries and continents. This Special Issue also reminds of the value of developments in the Global South.

The production and supply of raw materials is a basic ecosystem service, the origin of multiple production value chains. In 2011, the European Union elaborated a list of critical raw materials (CRMs), taking the economic and strategic importance for the European economy and the supply risk. Although focused mainly on the energy sector, the USA, Canada, and other countries took recently similar steps. Despite the great inertia characterising the mineral raw materials sector, some steps towards the Industry 4.0 paradigm can be envisaged. Significant challenges to the mining sector are the appropriate process design using the best available technologies; the increase in energy efficiency; the responsible use of water and handling of mining wastes; the social acceptance of the activity; and the digitalisation challenge. This book aims to propose strategies that can help face those challenges, especially in increasing energy efficiency in comminution operations.

Warum können Menschen mathematisch denken? Welche evolutionäre Erklärung für das mathematische Beziehungsdenken könnte es geben? Gibt es vielleicht einen evolutionären Zusammenhang zwischen dem mathematischen und dem sozialen Beziehungsdenken? Spielt sogar die soziale Intelligenz des Menschen dabei eine zentrale Rolle? Und, wenn ja, welche? Was für Auswirkungen könnten diese evolutionären Zusammenhänge auf grundlegende Fragen im Rahmen der Philosophie der Mathematik haben? Dies alles sind Fragestellungen, denen im vorliegenden Buch über die evolutionären Ursprünge des mathematischen Denkens nachgegangen wird.

Works for Works, Book 2: “No Rights,” privileges works-based agency (praxis) in literary-artistic scholarship. The principal focus of the Franciscan-inspired embrace of a “no rights” status for works of literary-artistic scholarship is toward freeing both author and works from forms of technocratic determinism and neo-utilitarianism associated with regimes of intellectual property rights law and platform cultures. Engaging, and then dispensing with, the concept of “the artistic exception,” a holdover from modernist justifications for art in/for itself, Works for Works nonetheless restores the primacy of the work itself through disconnecting author and work toward a transfiguration of both author and work and the substantiation of a new ecosystem for radical works of artistic-critical inquiry. Works for Works, Book 2: “No Rights,” follows upon Works for Works, Book 1: Useless Beauty (2022), a structuralist-inspired survey and exposé of the immanentist paradox artist-scholars inhabit in the post-contemporary transition from modernist and post-modernist reflexivity to forms of cultural production that favor no singular raison d’être or socio-cultural, socio-economic, or socio-political bias.

Construction materials are the most widely used materials for civil infrastructure in our daily lives. However, from an environmental point of view, they consume a huge amount of natural resources and generate the majority of greenhouse gasses. Therefore, many new and novel technologies for designing environmentally friendly construction materials have been developed recently. This Special Issue, “Environment-Friendly Construction Materials”, has been proposed and organized as a means to present recent developments in the field of construction materials. It covers a wide range of selected topics on construction materials.

Pour concevoir un système automatique (une "machine") capable de comprendre le langage naturel oral et de fournir des informations à un humain qui l’interroge, il est nécessaire, entre autres, de disposer d’analyses linguistiques reposant sur l’observation de dialogues authentiques. Quelles sont les différences observables dans le comportement langagier des humains lorsqu’ils se croient face à une machine et qu’ils subissent ses contraintes de compréhension ? Y a-t-il simplification et appauvrissement de leur langage face à un partenaire qu’ils considèrent comme "restreint" ? Existe-t-il des structures fondamentales inhérentes au dialogue finalisé, qui subsistent en toute situation. Autant de questions auxquelles les études linguistiques présentées ici tentent d’apporter une réponse, en se fondant sur un corpus recueilli en situation réelle, au Centre d’information et d’Orientation de l’Université de Paris V.

Par sa faute ou grâce à lui les amitiés les plus anciennes et les plus profondes se brisent, les espoirs les plus absolus se maintiennent, et l’exigence du dévouement reste en mémoire. Par la vertu du politique le monde ne cesse de trembler, au bord d’un basculement pensé comme essentiel. Mais comprenons-nous cette importance extrême du politique pour nous ? Et comprenons-nous même, plus simplement, de quoi il retourne dans le politique ? Ce livre explore la signification du politique pour nous. Il essaie de formuler les principales manières de comprendre le politique et l’horizon dessiné par lui. L’ouvrage parcourt ainsi la série de quelques versions du politique. Il tente aussi de faire échec à la croyance que le politique est par lui-même la clef et la solution, en promouvant plutôt la figure du « difficile politique ». Il est à notre charge de rédimer ce monde, mais ce n’est pas une bonne nouvelle pour nous !

Das vorliegende Werk liefert mit dem produktorientierten Ansatz eine leicht nachvollziehbare Methode, die Bedürfnisse der Mitarbeiter im Krankenhaus an ihre Arbeitsumgebung in messbare Liefereinheiten zu überführen. Über das produktorientierte Verrechnungssystem wird das Kunden-Liefe-ranten-Verhältnis in selbstregulierende geschlossene Regelkreise überführt. Dies führt zu einer Steigerung der Effizienz und liefert damit einen wert-vollen Beitrag zu Einsparungen im Gesundheitswesen. Auf Basis des Modells können Leistungen und Kosten des FM für jedes Krankenhaus prognostiziert und verglichen werden.

As a result of our call in 2014 for submissions to a Special Issue, Advances in Marine Chitin and Chitosan in Marine Drugs, we are now pleased to tell you that this issue has been published. Twenty high class papers were included in this issue, which we now plan to publish as a book. In addition we now seek to publish a further Special Issue, Advances in Marine Chitin and Chitosan II, 2017, in Marine Drugs. As before, we plan to produce a strong, very exciting issue that will encompass breakthroughs in high value, scientific and industrial chitin and chitosan research. Despite significant advances in chitin and chitosan research since the 1970s, current overviews in recent publications involving chitin and chitosan research advances need reporting.

Bem mais que um relato sobre ultra-sonografia fetal em mulheres de camadas médias do Rio de Janeiro, a obra propõe uma reflexão refinada sobre o papel da tecnologia médica na (re)definição do corpo e da própria realidade em que vivemos. Os resultados, apresentados, contribuem para o debate sobre a construção do feto como pessoa mediada pela tecnologia de imagem.
