The Prehistory of Human Migration - Human Expansion, Resource Use, and Mortuary Practice in Maritime Asia presents the current state of archaeological research on the migration and expansion of the first modern humans (Homo sapiens) into the maritime regions of Asia and Oceania. This area, which stretches geographically from the North and Southeast Asian mainland through the archipelagos of Japan, the Philippines, and Indonesia all the way to Oceania, has provided us with numerous new insights and discoveries based on data from archaeological and bioanthropological research, thus revealing the cognitive abilities as well as the behavioural adaptations and technological innovations of these early islanders and seafarers that led to the successful colonization of this unique island world. In seven chapters devoted to the themes ‘Modern Human Migration to Maritime Asia and Oceania’, ‘Modern Human Migration, Technology and Resource Use in Maritime Asia’, and ‘Modern Human Migration and Mortuary Practices in Maritime Asia’, leading archaeologists present their research in Wallacea, the Ryukyu Islands (East Asia), and the coastal regions of Southeast and Northeast Asia, and discuss their findings on early modern human migration to Maritime Asia, the utilization of its diverse resources, and the belief systems of these early islanders during the Late Pleistocene.

This edited volume reflects a diverse array of perspectives on how economic development and growth may be facilitated. The book offers a theoretical analysis and empirical evidence, along with country and regional perspectives, to enrich our understanding of the patterns and determinants of sustainable development and growth. Die Bedienung von Softwarewerkzeugen am Bildschirmarbeitsplatz beansprucht Ressourcen im kapazitätsbegrenzten Arbeitsgedächtnis des Menschen, die der eigentlichen Arbeitsaufgabe verloren gehen. Zur Unterstützung des Entwurfs von Mensch-Maschine-Dialogen hinsichtlich dieser Ressourcenkonkurrenz wird eine Modellierungssprache definiert und experimentell validiert, mit der die Belastung des Arbeitsgedächtnisses duch Interaktion am Bildschirmarbeitsplatz quantitativ abgeschätzt werden kann.

This book offers a thorough review of new ideas and developments for solar photovoltaic (PV) energy systems. Efforts to reduce costs often take two forms: enhancing the materials and physical construction of PV cells and utilizing power electronic circuits with the PV generator to increase the system's efficiency. Furthermore, random climatic factors, such as temperature and irradiance, have a significant impact on PV system performances. As a result, modeling PV panels and creating optimization plans to maximize power extracted and boost efficiency under various irradiance circumstances are crucial tasks. This book provides a comprehensive overview of cutting-edge techniques in solar PV energy systems.

In the continuous search for sustainability, the exchange of diverse perspectives, assumptions, and values is indispensable to environmental protection. Through anthropological and ethnographic analyses, this collection addresses how interests, values, and ideologies affect dialogue and sustainability work. Drawing on studies from three continents – Europe, North America, and South America – the paradoxes and the plurality of meanings associated with the creation of sustainable futures are explored. The book focuses on how communication practices collide with organizational frameworks, customary practices, livelihoods, and landscape. In so doing, the authors explore the meanings of environmental communication, pushing beyond environmental advocacy rhetoric to emphasize stronger anthropological engagement within communities to achieve more impactful environmental communication practice. Empirically the book’s chapters explore a diverse set of issues, ranging from coastal management in the European north to Native American place naming in Alaska. They further share findings from studies of contaminated land remediation in Sweden, conflicts over water resources in Chile, management of heritage and national parks in Northern Arizona, and cultural transmission in Slovakia. This is an open access book.

Os textos deste livro analisam as representações da política e da mídia nas sociedades democráticas contemporâneas. A primeira parte da obra é dedicada aos aspectos cognitivos e retóricos do jornalismo e sua influência sobre as audiências. Na seqüência são examinadas as acepções da democracia e o papel do jornalismo na constituição das sociedades democráticas e na expansão dos direitos de cidadania. A parte final do livro trata do lugar ocupado pelos meios de comunicação nas eleições brasileiras de 1989, 1994, 1998, 2002 e 2006. Aliando reflexão teórica e análise de situações concretas, esta obra salienta as conexões entre representações, jornalismo e democracia.

This proceeding contains peer-reviewed papers from the Tourism Development Centre International Conference (TDCIC), October 1st, 2019, in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, Indonesia. This conference focused on current issues of sustainable tourism in a disaster prone destination with the focused on marine and coastal tourism to discuss and disseminate research findings, elaborate concepts and methods, share idea and experiences among participants. Papers presented in the conference covered a wide range of topics: Tourism Safety and security, Sustainable and Ecotourism, Tourism and Climate Change, Community Based Tourism, Marine and Coastal Tourism, Tourism Management, Traveller Behavior, Tourist Experience, Sharing Economic in Tourism, Robotic and AI in Tourism, Halal Tourism, Local Wisdom in Tourism and International and Domestic Law in Tourism. This International Academic Conference aims to facilitate discourses and develop innovative and critical thinking around Sustainable Tourism in Disaster Prone Destinations issues. This conference invited experts, practitioners, and stakeholders in tourism from ASIAN countries, Australia and South Korea. The topic of papers for this conference covers all aspects of tourism. The conference has two programs: (1) International Academic Conference where a number of internationally acknowledged experts delivered speeches as keynote and invited speakers in the plenary session. The event then continued with parallel panels discussing specific areas of sustainable tourism, safety, and security tourism with presenters selected from the call for papers. Based on these presentations, participants were further offered post-conference publication opportunities in a range of forms such as international journals, national journals, conference proceeding with Scopus indexed, and edited books. Pandemic and social crisis are the two phenomena that provide the context in which this book emerges. The work of the social sciences in this context is more relevant and challenging than ever, because it is clear that in the crisis —from the pandemic in Chile—, economic, social and political-institutional crises converge, which made its analysis and overcoming strategies much more complex, considering the need and urgency of an epochal change. In these convulsive times, from the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Chile, we set out to gather investigations from different disciplines and intersections of knowledge to contribute to the understanding of this particular historical moment and its repercussions in Chilean society in order to thereby contribute to improving the lives of the people affected by this crisis from various spheres and dimensions.

Polarimetry allows sensitivity to the structural and geometric properties of the scene, making it possible a more accurate identification and classification than non-polarimetric systems. Then, polarimetry makes possible new applications, especially in quantitative extraction of bio and geophysical variables. Also, the combination of polarimetry and interferometry allows also to explore the vertical structure of semi-transparent media, like crops and forests. SAR polarimetry is an active field of research in Earth observation. Besides the development of applications, researchers have also focused in theory or physical modelling to make SAR polarimetry an operational technique. This book presents the state of the art in SAR polarimetry, from theory and physical modelling to final applications, but also the current and futures challenges. This book puts also the emphasis on studies for the exploitation of data provided by the new polarimetric space borne SAR sensors, which include additional frequency bands, interferometric capability, enlarged spatial coverage, high spatial resolution and/or shorter revisit times.

L’auteur de ce livre, qui a eu la chance de côtoyer un peintre (Delvaux), des romanciers (Hyvernaud, Villiers de l’Isle-Adam), des essayistes (Barthes, Quignard), des poètes (Follain, Ghil, Jaccottet, Ponge, Reverdy, Tardieu), a souhaité leur rendre hommage. Il en a résulté ce livre. Son lecteur pourra y discerner des motifs de prédilection et peut-être une méthode. L’auteur n’a pas souhaité les expliciter, persuadé qu’il est que la littérature n’exprime jamais que des singularités. Et qu’il est nécessaire, aujourd’hui plus que jamais, de les affirmer, comme autant de mots de désordre propres à désorganiser les savoirs convenus de la critique.

Fiber-reinforced materials offer a huge potential for lightweight design of load-bearing structures. However, high-volume production of such parts is still a challenge in terms of cost efficiency and competitiveness. Numerical process simulation can be used to analyze underlying mechanisms and to find a suitable process design. In this study, the curing process of the resin is investigated with regard to its influence on RTM mold filling and process-induced distortion.

Die Beiträge machen marktbezogene Praktiken von der Frühen Neuzeit bis zum beginnenden 19. Jahrhundert sichtbar und verknüpfen sie transregional vergleichend miteinander.
