Buildings celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2023. During this time, Buildings has achieved a lot. Indeed, its number of published papers, rejection rate, number of full-text downloads, number of citations received by published papers, Impact Factor, and submission-to-publication time have all consistently improved. The scope of the journal is comprehensive and includes almost every aspect of building design, construction, and operation. The Editorial Board is composed of a relatively small but wonderful mix of highly accomplished and well-established academics and practitioners, representing many countries in turn. Many members and non-members of the Editorial Board of Buildings contributed to the “10th Anniversary” Special Issue by writing papers in their respective areas of expertise, thus reflecting the scope of the journal and covering historical trends, current challenges, the state of the art, creative and innovative solutions, and future developments in building science, engineering, and management. With this Special Issue, Buildings is clearly an important player in the publication of high-quality research papers on diverse building-related issues.

Shape memory alloys (SMAs) have special property of the shape memory effect. After thermal treatment above the martensitic transition temperature, the alloys come back to the original shape when the alloys heat again after having cooled it to the temperature that is lower than the martensitic transition temperature. By means of this property, many industrial parts and systems were produced. This Special Issue "Shape Memory Alloys 2017" is constructed articles reporting new and progressive research results, as well as reviews of particular classes of fundamental physics of the materials and their applications of SMAs. Through its 17 efficient articles, the reader will approach to researches related to SMAs with their peculiar magnetic, thermo-mechanical properties, superelasticity, plastic deformation and compression under pressure. These physical properties introduce a large number of applications as faster SMA actuators, application of medical devices, industrial joining parts, volts, and magnetic/mechanical/thermal sensors. These articles are intended scientific researchers, professional engineers, students to obtain a better understanding in this field lately.

This essay aims at outlining Baretti’s attitude toward antiquarianism, which pervaded eighteenth-century Europe and Italy in particular, first with the revival of Etruscan studies and then with the discovery of Herculaneum and Pompeii. Baretti’s attacks towards the study of antiquities cover the years before Baretti definitively moved to England in 1766, starting from 1750, when he published the “Primo Cicalamento” against Giuseppe Bartoli, Paduan antiquarian and professor of eloquence and Greek at the University of Turin, who took part in the renowned antiquarian dispute over the «Querini Diptych». His dislike of the antiquarian concerns of his time would later become ‒ unexpectedly ‒ a matter of political balance, involving the Kingdom of Naples and the Republic of Venice.
