While the management of head and neck cancer has evolved over the last few decades, there are still several challenges and unanswered questions that need solutions. This book is a small compilation of some topical aspects regarding head and neck cancer treatment, including the etiology of HPV-positive oropharyngeal cancers and risk factors in the young population, the challenge of surgical margin definition and the perennial problem of systemic treatment due to distant metastases. Radiobiological aspects are also covered through the Rs of radiotherapy, with a couple of chapters being dedicated to radioresistance and tumour microenvironment. Contemporary Issues in Head and Neck Cancer Management comes as an addition to the existing literature that aims to tackle this radiobiologically challenging tumour.

Sixty-year excavation (1953 to 2013) of Župna Cerkev Cemetery in Kranj unearthed almost 3000 graves. The monograph introduces 1048 graves found between 1972 and 2010. The excavations were initially led by Andrej Valič, the curator of the Gorenjski muzej (1972 and 73, 862 graves). Milan Sagadin from ZVKD Kranj continued the dig from 1984 to 2001 (163 graves), followed by Draško Josipovič (Megalan Skupina, d. o. o., 2003 to 2010), who excavated 23 more graves. An extensive chapter presents the artefacts of Župna Cerkev Cemetery with no data about their location. The varied documentation, which has changed over the years, is the basis for the publication of all available data on the graves and artefacts kept by the Gorenjski muzej in Kranj. The introduction, a study on the nature of the data, comments on possible inconsistencies between the various types of documentation. Primarily it deals with the question of reliability of individual grave good assemblages, which is the basis for all further analysis. The discussed group of graves originates mainly from the northern exterior of the church and from the interior of the present-day church, that is, from the place where graves intertwined with the remains of older church and non-church buildings. Their building development and changing usability will be impossible to explain without good knowledge of the cemetery.

The Western and Central Pacific Ocean is home to the largest tuna fishery in the world – around half of the world’s tuna supply – and is a vital economic resource for Pacific island countries. The potential of the Pacific tuna fishery to contribute to economic development in the Pacific island countries is enormous, but will require a cooperative regional strategy to maximise access fees from distant water fishing nations, as well as targeted domestic policy and legislation to encourage local fishing industries. Together with the importance of acting strategically with regard to such a variable resource, the lesson of fisheries management globally is that it is most effective when it takes into consideration social, cultural and political contexts. Based on an extensive study of six Pacific island states, Capturing Wealth from Tuna maps out the aspirations and limitations of six Pacific island countries and proposes strategies for capturing more wealth from this resource in a sustainable and socially equitable manner.

An endocentric language is a language whose verbs are lexically precise and concrete whereas its nouns are abstract and vague. An exocentric language has lexically precise and concrete nouns and abstract verbs. The Germanic languages prove to be endocentric and the Romance languages exocentric. The lexical differences entail differences at other levels as well, linguistic as well as extralinguistic. This multilingual volume contains a selection of papers presented at the two day Italian-Danish linguistic seminar Lingua, cognizione e identità: estensioni della tipologia delle lingue endo- ed esocentriche held at the Italian Department of the University of Florence on the 22nd and 23rd of September 2009. The papers challenge the endo-/exocentric approach at various levels (lexicon, grammar, language infrastructures, socio cultural reflections) with examples from the Romance languages (Italian and French) and the Germanic languages (English, German and Danish).

The Improvement Plan (better known as PdM, that is Piano di Miglioramento) was introduced in school agenda in 2015. Since then, both teachers and administrative staff have worked in a process of change and enhancement in two main areas: teaching/learning and organization/management ones. Consequently, it began to flourish implementing projects in order to find the best solutions to reach the main school goal: providing the educational success to all students, with respect for their several differences. This book collects papers, submitted at IV edition of the Seminar “INVALSI data: a research and teaching tool” held in Rome in November 2019, by both teachers and researchers to debate and deepen this topic, sharing ideas, suggestions, and experiences. INVALSI data could be a useful tool to find new paths to help schools in a permanent improving process, indeed.

How do Tuscans see politics? What is their relationship with it? Is there something different from the «red subculture» of the First Republic? Articulated answers to these questions emerge from this research commissioned by the Tuscan Regional Authority and conducted by the Centro Italiano Studi Elettorali with a mixed quantitative and qualitative approach. On the one hand, associative participation – expression of a deeply embedded tradition – is alive and kicking. On the other hand, we can see a decline in political participation, alongside elements of tension in the relation between citizens, parties and institutions. These are the inevitable signs of the great symbolic and organisational changes that have affected the mass parties; they must now address new challenges if they want to maintain the vital dialogue that the Tuscans demand from their political class.

This book addresses the physical phenomenon of events that seem to occur spontaneously and without any known cause. These are to be contrasted with events that happen in a (pre-)determined, predictable, lawful, and causal way. All our knowledge is based on self-reflexive theorizing, as well as on operational means of empirical perception. Some of the questions that arise are the following: are these limitations reflected by our models? Under what circumstances does chance kick in? Is chance in physics merely epistemic? In other words, do we simply not know enough, or use too crude levels of description for our predictions? Or are certain events "truly", that is, irreducibly, random? The book tries to answer some of these questions by introducing intrinsic, embedded observers and provable unknowns; that is, observables and procedures which are certified (relative to the assumptions) to be unknowable or undoable. A (somewhat iconoclastic) review of quantum mechanics is presented which is inspired by quantum logic. Postulated quantum (un-)knowables are reviewed. More exotic unknowns originate in the assumption of classical continua, and in finite automata and generalized urn models, which mimic complementarity and yet maintain value definiteness. Traditional conceptions of free will, miracles and dualistic interfaces are based on gaps in an otherwise deterministic universe.

Make believe we are in 2028, attending the 26th World Congress of Philosophy, then the question is: how will philosophers delve into historic texts? Not on paper, but on devices. And each philosophical proposition uttered by any philosopher at any time will not stay on its own. It will instead be co-created by many others. The history of philosophy will be participative, thus contributing to the establishment of a reflective and inclusive society.

Migrant Ecologies: Environmental Histories of the Pacific World is the first volume explicitly dedicated to the environmental history of Earth’s largest ocean. Covering nearly one-third of the planet, the Pacific Ocean is remarkable for its diverse human and non-human inhabitants, their astounding long-distance migrations over time, and their profound influences on other parts of the world. This book creates an understanding of the past, present, and futures of the lands, seas, peoples, practices, microbes, animals, plants, and other natural forces that shape the Pacific. It effectively argues for the existence of an interconnected Pacific World environmental history, as well as for the Pacific Ocean as a necessary framework for understanding that history. The fifteen chapters in this comprehensive collection, written by leading experts from across the globe, span a vast array of topics, from disease ecology and coffee cultivation to nuclear testing and whaling practices. They explore regions stretching from the Tuamotu Archipelago in the south Pacific to the Kamchatka Peninsula in the far north, resisting the depiction of the Pacific as isolated and uninhabited. What unites these diverse contributions is a concern for how the people, places, and non-human beings of the Pacific World have been shaped by, and have in turn modified, their oceanic realm. Building on a recent renaissance in Pacific history, these chapters make a powerful argument for the importance of the Pacific World as a coherent unit of analysis and a valuable lens through which to examine past, ongoing, and emerging environmental issues. By showcasing surprising and innovative perspectives on the environmental histories of the peoples and ecosystems in and around the Pacific Ocean, this work adds to current conversations and debates about the Pacific World and offers myriad opportunities for further discussions, both inside and outside of the classroom.
