How do new media affect the question of social memory? Social memory is usually described as enacted through ritual, language, art, architecture, and institutions ? phenomena whose persistence over time and capacity for a shared storage of the past was set in contrast to fleeting individual memory. But the question of how social memory should be understood in an age of digital computing, instant updating, and interconnection in real time, is very much up in the air. The essays in this collection discuss the new technologies of memory from a variety of perspectives that explicitly investigate their impact on the very concept of the social. Dynamical mechanical analysis is used to investigate the temperature dependent, anisotropic visco-elastic stiffness, damage induced stiffness degradation as well as physical aging of polypropylene and the anisotropic compression molded long fiber reinforced polypropylene. Based on micro-computer tomography data, the approximations of the linear elastic properties using the Mori-Tanaka method are presented.

Este livro, que apresenta muito mais que aspectos técnicos, é resultado do trabalho de profissionais e pesquisadores do campo da preservação documental e patrimonial da humanidade, que, no período de março a abril de 2010, reuniram-se intensamente em uma rede sociotécnica on-line. O primeiro capítulo discute o papel dos documentos na construção da memória social; o segundo apresenta um estudo sobre aspectos interdisciplinares da preservação; o terceiro, por sua vez, trata da temática da repetição e da diferença; o quarto capítulo considera o movimento da ciência em outras direções; o quinto aborda questões sobre a conscientização de manutenção dos acervos; os capítulos seguintes discorrem sobre grandezas físicas presentes em formas de degradação de acervos e reúnem elementos para provar que, sob certos cuidados, o papel pode ser consultado durante várias gerações.

L'Asie du Sud-Est est en perpétuelle évolution, oscillant entre avancées fulgurantes et retours en arrière inquiétants. Si la croissance économique de la zone reste dynamique, certains pays connaissent des soubresauts politiques préoccupants dont les origines sont souvent plus profondes que ne le laisse supposer une lecture rapide de l'actualité. Asie du Sud-Est 2008 rassemble des textes tirés du mensuel francophone « Focus Asie du Sud-Est » qui intéresseront tous ceux qui par profession, par goût ou par passion suivent de près les changements vécus dans région. Etablissant une rétrospective des événements majeurs de l'année dernière, ce livre aide à mieux cerner les grands enjeux de l'année 2008. Die Sozialpolitik in Deutschland steht angesichts multipler und miteinander verflochtener Krisen vor einer Vielzahl neuer und alter Herausforderungen. Wissenschaftliche Befunde können helfen, diese Herausforderungen zu bewältigen. Damit dies gelingt, muss Sozialpolitikforschung jedoch der Komplexität gesellschaftlicher Entwicklungen Rechnung tragen. This open access book offers a systematic survey of the attitudes and values of European political scientists. It builds a structural interpretation based on empirical data, as well as offering reflections on the future structure of the discipline. In the middle of a delicate phase of changes marked by the effects of pandemic and the war in Ukraine, we need to pay attention to the factors that are affecting not only the ‘objects’ of Political Science as a discipline but also its interactions with the world around it. First, this book asks to what extent the work of European political scientists is impacted by the current change. Second, their attitudes and predisposition about the future goals of the discipline are analysed. In the final chapter, the authors seek to understand to what extent a diffuse but still not completely institutionalized academic discipline will be able to produce a comprehensive impact around the European society, in order to be more visible and effective in policy making and policy processes.

This book comprises a systematic analysis of the nominal inflectional systems of 37 local dialects of the East Upper German variety (i.e., East Franconian, North and Central Bavarian), analyzing data drawn from the research project Bavarian Linguistic Atlas (Bayerischer Sprachatlas). The surveyed dialects show a wide spectrum of variation with regard to dialect-specific phonological change and subsequently exhibit variation at the interface of phonology and morphology, making a contrastive study of dialect morphology worthwhile. The first part of the data analysis focuses on number and case marking strategies, surveying the local dialects’ allomorphs from a synchronic and diachronic perspective. The second part addresses the structure of dialect declension classes, specifically focusing on superior assignment principles. In a third step, noun phrases are included into the analysis, widening the focus to the more general question of whether the coding of plural (or case) information is necessarily attributed to inflectional morphology, or whether plural (or case) coding has to be located at the interface between morphology, syntax and context. Finally, the data analysis is followed by a discussion, covering theoretical (namely usage-based) approaches on morphological change.

In the late Middle Ages, the Percy earls of Northumberland and the bishops of Durham were two of the largest landholders in the North East of England. This book is a study of their estate administrations based on the extant manorial accounts from the fourteenth through sixteenth centuries. Examining the documents holistically, it investigates the shapes of the records and the materials they were written upon, as well as how they were used and stored to provide new insights into late medieval lordly administration. Such a material-focussed approach explores the concurrent use of rolls, booklets, paper, and parchment for different types of manorial accounts and at different steps of the multistage production and audit process. It also examines the hands drafting, editing, and auditing the accounts, in addition to the layout and presentation of the contents of the records to further our understanding of the written burden of proof required in the management and audit of large estates in late medieval England. Studying the financial accounts of the earls of Northumberland and the bishops of Durham from a material perspective reveals two highly sophisticated administrative systems and structures of accountability.

The authors project future supply and demand for health services, describe the strengths of the health care system in the Kurdistan Region as well as the challenges it faces including financing issues, and discusses what strategies can be pursued to move toward a more effective and higher-quality health care system.
