Galileo’s abilities as a mathematician were far below that of many of his contemporaries. He made numerous technical mistakes — including several high-profile, mathematically erroneous applications of his own law of fall — that were swiftly spotted and corrected by the leading mathematicians of the day. Many aspects of Galileo’s work can be viewed as consequences of this limited technical proficiency in mathematics. For example, he ignores Kepler’s work and dismisses comets as a chimerical atmospheric phenomena: decisions that are difficult to justify on scientific grounds but which make sense if we grant that Galileo wanted to avoid technical mathematics at all costs. Instead he drops rocks, looks through tubes, rails against Aristotelian philosophers, and expounds at length about basic principles of scientific method: all of which can be seen as dwelling on precisely those parts of the mathematician’s worldview that do not require any actual mathematics.

Does it really make sense to distinguish between “Bildung” (formation) and “digital Bildung”? Are “childhood” and “digital childhood” two sides of the same coin? As the boundary between life in and outside the digital is increasingly blurred, the answer may be obvious. But the consequences for children’s and young people’s formation are not as clear. This scientific anthology focuses on digital formation in kindergarten, school, home, and leisure time. The authors explore key aspects of digital formation by studying meeting points between different professional and disciplinary practices and our increasingly digitalized everyday lives. Digital formation refers to a holistic understanding of how we learn, acquire values and attitudes, and develop identity and self-understanding in a digital context. Children’s and young people’s formation concerns us all. At the same time, personal formation lasts a lifetime. Awareness and knowledge about the relationship between formation and the digital is therefore a general need in our medialized present. This anthology will be an important resource and source of inspiration for teacher educators, media researchers, kindergarten and primary school teachers, students, parents, and child and youth workers in various arenas. The editors, Margunn Serigstad Dahle (Associate Professor) and Grete Skjeggestad Meyer (Docent), are both employed at NLA University College. They lead the research group Children, Media and Worldview, from which this anthology stems. The anthology opens with an essay about Mats “Ibelin,” written by his father Robert Steen exclusively for this publication. Through his deeply personal text, he shows how important it is to seek to understand children’s and young people’s digital lives—not least in relation to friendship and experiences of meaning.

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in most countries and its consequences result in huge economic, social and psychological burden. Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer type and the leading cause of cancer death among females. In this book, we discussed gene expression and DNA abnormalities including methylation in breast cancer. A recent important topic, roles of miRNAs and their potential use in cancer therapy have been discussed in this cancer type as well. Bioinformatics is very important part of recent human genome developments and data mining and thus this topic has also been added for the readers. It is hoped that this book will contribute to development of novel diagnostic as well as therapeutic approaches, which lead to cure of breast cancer.

"In Asia, where authoritarian-developmental states have proliferated, statehood and social control are heavily contested in borderland spaces. As a result, in the post-Cold War world, borders have not only redefined Asian incomes and mobilities, they have also rekindled neighbouring relations and raised questions about citizenship and security. The contributors to the Routledge Handbook of Asian Borderlands highlight some of these processes taking place at the fringe of the state. Offering an array of comparative perspectives of Asian borders and borderlands in the global context, this handbook is divided into thematic sections, including: •Livelihoods, commodities and mobilities •Physical land use and agrarian transformations •Borders and boundaries of the state and the notion of statelessness •Re-conceptualizing trade and the economy in the borderlands •The existence and influence of humanitarians, religions, and NGOs •The militarization of borderlands Causing us to rethink and fundamentally question some of the categories of state, nation, and the economy, this is an important resource for students and scholars of Asian Studies, Border Studies, Social and Cultural Studies, and Anthropology."

The book aims to highlight the challenges faced by small states located in zones of geopolitical instability. Drawing on Saul P. Cohen's theoretical concept of the shatter belt, it discusses a geopolitical region characterized by significant instability, owing especially to the influence of neighbouring powers. The book defines the challenges related to the geopolitical position of Baltic Europe and describes them as manifestations of the shatter belt. It details the historical conditions of the small Baltic states: Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, with reference to their geopolitical position within the Russian sphere of influence and after the collapse of the USSR. This study also focuses on the exploitation of national minorities as one the main challenges to the national security of the Baltic states. As a pioneering study on the role of small states as peacekeepers, allies, and members of international organizations, this book will be a valuable resource for students and doctoral candidates in international relations, geopolitics, and political geography. It will also be useful to experts, journalists, and policymakers.
