Within the current discussion on grammatical interfaces, the word-classes of adjective and adverb are of particular interest because they appear to be separated or joined in manifold ways at the level of word-class or syntax, with morphology playing a prominent role, especially in Romance. The volume provides typological and theoretical insights into the common or different usage of adjectives and adverbs in Romance. Diachronic change is discussed alongside with synchronic variation and the representation in grammar. The discussion turns out to be controversial, calling into question traditional assumptions such as the dogma of the invariability and the categorial status of the adverb.

“I am not Shemr, this is not a dagger, nor is this Karbala,” recites the arch-antagonist as a taʿziyeh performance begins. Verisimilitude is not the endeavour; this is a devotional offering that stirs lament for the the Shiʿi martyrs by representing events crucial to sacred history. But what does that retelling entail? Through study of four of its main episodes—from their long inter-female dialogues to the protagonists’ encounters with jinn, dervishes, and foreigners—this book explores the taʿziyeh repertoire’s compositional features. Combining a wide range of historical scripts, largely unpublished manuscripts, with witness accounts, it tracks the tradition’s development from Safavid to Qajar Iran asking, who were its contributors? And, how have they left their mark?

Solar System Planets and Exoplanets provides a current viewpoint of planetary systems. The solar system’s planets and exoplanets are addressed in an overview manner, and specific space probe data are used to provide a current state of knowledge of Venus and Mars. Recent Mars data and associated observations are addressed in several chapters. Of particular interest are data that suggest the possibility that life could have existed on the planet’s surface during its past when Mars’ atmosphere was wetter and denser. The search for life on Mars is one of the main objectives of space missions, and it is an ongoing theme of this book. Key to the existence of life is the evolution of the radiation output of the Sun that is discussed and projected into the future. Space probe data related to the Asteroid Belt is also presented. Technological advances in terms of operating aircraft on Mars and propulsion systems provide useful commentary regarding future innovations that will enhance upcoming space missions and the search for life.

Advances and Applications in Mobile Computing offers guidelines on how mobile software services can be used in order to simplify the mobile users' life. The main contribution of this book is enhancing mobile software application development stages as analysis, design, development and test. Also, recent mobile network technologies such as algorithms, decreasing energy consumption in mobile network, and fault tolerance in distributed mobile computing are the main concern of the first section. In the mobile software life cycle section, the chapter on human computer interaction discusses mobile device handset design strategies, following the chapters on mobile application testing strategies. The last section, mobile applications as service, covers different mobile solutions and different application sectors.

The use of 3D modelling in practices of valorisation and dissemination of historic-architectural knowledge and restoration is now consolidated. Virtual models must, however, match principles of scientific rigour, comprehensibility and evaluability by the users, as stated in the London Charter and in the Seville Principles. This paper aims at presenting the methodology used in the virtual reconstruction of some drawings by Leonardo da Vinci, developed to ensure the correct dissemination of the historical contents delivered through the drafting of a ‘traceability card’ compliant with the international Charters principles.

This dissertation contributes to practice-ethnographic educational research and focuses on the phenomenon of subjectivation through performance assessment. It examines alternative assessment practices in secondary school classrooms that aim to evaluate performance without grades in order to promote individual learning development. Using the practice ethnographic approach, the unintended power effects of these assessment practices are analysed. Using four different assessment practices, power dynamics and self-relations of students and teachers are examined to understand how these practices influence the formation of self-relations and how an assessment regime is unfolded in the classroom by processing an increasing responsibiliation of students for performance. The study emphasises the importance of a differentiated investigation of assessment practices and concludes with an outlook on possible future research approaches.
