The systematic examination of the fluctuations in the definition of the terms "neo-avant-garde" and "post-modern" is at the base of this study, which therefore evolves through the comparative analysis of different contexts, with particular reference to the Italian one (Group 63) and to the French one (Nouveau Roman). Thus, an articulated framework of deeply intertwined narrative experiences emerges, making a valid and completely original contribution to the discussion on well-established historical categories within the literary history and critical theory of the second half of the 20th century.

This book presents a theoretical and methodological proposal that provides pedagogical and didactic elements for the training of undergraduate law students, from a Gender Equity Approach for Women (EEGM). The research from which it derives reveals the stereotypes associated with the issue of alimony obligations present in students and professors, and highlights the importance of intercultural, intersectional and differentiated practices in the attention to the users of alimony claims that are processed in the Guillermo Peña Alzate Legal Clinic of the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of the University of Antioquia, Medellin, with the purpose that the student, in his stage of academic practices, can use different theoretical, conventional, jurisprudential and normative instruments, framed in the cultural studies of law.

This rich study provides a comprehensive introduction to media philosophy while offering a new perspective on the concept and function of transmission media in all systems of exchange. Krämer uses the figure of the messenger as a key metaphor, examining a diverse range of transmission events, including the circulation of money, translation of languages, angelic visitations, spread of infectious diseases, and processes of transference and counter-transference that occur during psychoanalysis. "'An interesting read, with an incorporated overview of media theory." - Ana Peraica, Leonardo Reviews

What is it about social interaction at the workplace that spurs interactional competence development? This book explores the answers to this question by analyzing the development of interactional competence by two Vietnamese hotel staff members, one novice and one experienced, as they interact with international guests in English in Vietnam. Using ethnomethodological conversation analysis (EMCA) in a longitudinal design, Nguyen and Malabarba trace the learners’ observable changes in interactional practices in guest-escorting walks over time. In doing so, they uncover the interaction-endogenous impetuses that may have led to these changes and address three fundamental questions in second language acquisition research: what is learned, how it is learned, and why it is learned. In seven chapters, the book offers an illuminating discussion of how competence has been conceptualized in EMCA and a rich analysis of how individuals’ changes in interactional conduct take place locally and longitudinally. With an in-depth discussion of theoretical issues as well as a fine-grained empirical analysis, this book appeals to researchers, students, and practitioners interested in social perspectives on second language learning, longitudinal EMCA, the development of interactional competence at the workplace, and guest-host interaction in hospitality. Chapter 7 of this book is freely available as a downloadable Open Access PDF at http://www.taylorfrancis.com under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivatives (CC-BY-NC-ND) 4.0 license.

Each stage of the body's immune response relies on the presence of nutrients. The energy and nutrient needs of the immune system can be met from exogenous diets. Dietary components can influence the development and maintenance of the immune system or play a very specific role in reducing chronic inflammation. The healthy diet regulates the fine balance of pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory mediators and immune cells to help the immune system fight infection. They can also protect our bodies from harmful autoimmune diseases, chronic inflammatory diseases or cancer, and fetal infection following cancer or before harmful autoimmune diseases. In contrast, malnutrition or excessive intake of micronutrients can impair immune function. For example, iron supplementation will increase morbidity and mortality in those in malaria-endemic regions. Researchers have always had many questions about nutrition and the immune system: How can different dietary components effectively treat immune deficiencies associated with inadequate intake? Can specific nutritional interventions further enhance immune function in subclinical settings to prevent inflammatory disease infection or chronic disease? The authors of papers included in this Special Issue shared some valuable knowledge, including but not limited to research on different dietary components related to the immune system. Ultimately, we hope that this reprint will be useful for clinical practitioners and inspire further innovative research.

In Finding Voice, Kim Berman demonstrates how she was able to use visual arts training in disenfranchised communities as a tool for political and social transformation in South Africa. Using her own fieldwork as a case study, Berman shows how hands-on work in the arts with learners of all ages and backgrounds can contribute to economic stability by developing new skills, as well as enhancing public health and gender justice within communities. Berman's work, and the community artwork her book documents, present the visual arts as a crucial channel for citizens to find their individual voices and to become agents for change in the arenas of human rights and democracy.

Unbroken Nostalgia: Haitian Kreyòl Poetry in Cuba is the first English translation and scholarly edition of the collection Nostalji san pwen ni vigil: pwezi kreyòl nan peyi Kiba (2016) by Hilario Batista Félix. A poet, journalist, and language activist, Batista (1955– ) embodies and expresses Cuba’s cultural and linguistic diversity as a descendant of Haitian migrant workers to Eastern Cuba during the mid-twentieth century; his poems bridge regions usually separated by language—the Spanish and Creolophone/Francophone Caribbean—and vividly depict the distinct heritage of Haitian Cubans and their shared dreams and challenges. A scholarly introduction by translator and editor Mariana F. Past provides biographical information about the author, situates his work within Haitian diasporic literature, and addresses patterns of Haitian migration to Cuba. Batista’s original poems appear alongside facing-page English translations with annotations that clarify historical figures and events, geographical features, and Haitian cultural and religious practices. Grounded in oral storytelling traditions, Unbroken Nostalgia brings to light the collective memory and complicated hybridity of the Haitian community in Cuba and upholds Haitian Kreyòl as a language of resistance.

Probably, the most well-documented, and at the same time, simple conceptual method for predicting runoff depth from rainfall depth is the Soil Conservation Service curve number (SCS-CN) method. This Special Issue presents the latest developments in the SCS-CN methodology, including, but not limited to, novel applications, theoretical and conceptual studies broadening the current understanding, studies extending the method’s application in other geographical regions or other scientific fields, substantial evaluation studies, and ultimately, key advancements towards addressing the key remaining challenges, such as: improving the SCS-CN method runoff predictions without sacrificing its current level of simplicity; moving towards a unique generally accepted procedure for CN determination from rainfall-runoff data; improving the initial abstraction estimation; investigating the integration of SCS-CN method in long-term continuous hydrological models and the implementation of various soil moisture accounting systems; extending and adopting the existing CNs documentation in a broader range of regions, land uses and climatic conditions; and utilizing novel modeling, geoinformation systems, and remote sensing techniques to improve the performance and the efficiency of the method.
