Négligé par la critique postcoloniale, le théâtre, dans ses formes variées, et notamment populaires, a pourtant largement accompagné la colonisation française de l’Afrique du Nord et la formation d’un esprit colonial, depuis le débarquement des troupes françaises en Algérie en 1830 jusqu’au grand rendez-vous impérialiste que fut l’Exposition coloniale de 1931. S’appuyant sur des préjugés existants, les renforçant, en forgeant parfois de nouveaux pour les besoins du spectacle, les pièces écrites à l’époque coloniale ont donné de multiples représentations de la figure de « l’Arabe » : bestial, fourbe, idiot ou « exotique », dans tous les cas inférieur au « Blanc », cet « autre » apparaît toujours comme un être dominé. À partir de l’analyse historique, sociologique et esthétique d’un répertoire méconnu de près de deux cents pièces, mais aussi de leur mise en scène et de leur réception par la critique et des publics divers, Amélie Gregório interroge la transformation des représentations en discours, sans perdre de vue les enjeux proprement artistiques et sans prétendre a priori que toute pièce représentant des « Arabes » est obligatoirement, et de façon univoque, idéologique.

Este escrito pseudoeratosténico que se traduz nesta publicação retrata um grupo de episódios que não se limita a 12 constelações. Tampouco discorre acerca de influências/condicionalismos deterministas sobre eventualidades e comportamentos diários, mensais ou anuais das criaturas terrenas da Época Alexandrinista. Embora não se trate de um tratado astronómico e o estilo prime por um carácter simples e sucinto, muito há para descodificar nos pouco mais de quarenta episódios. De conotações astronómicas, apresenta-se como um exercício de aproximação, ao proporcionar ao recetor explicações de algo visível, mas não atingível - as constelações, através de imagens do saber comum, radicadas em cenas e aspetos mitológicos. Ademais, são vastos os topoi desenvolvidos, como philia, traição, cólera, justiça, crime e castigo, reverência, eponímia, etiologia, metamorfose, mitologia.

In Forms of Life, Andreas Gailus argues that the neglect of aesthetics in most contemporary theories of biopolitics has resulted in an overly restricted conception of life. He insists we need a more flexible notion of life: one attuned to the interplay and conflict between its many dimensions and forms. Forms of Life develops such a notion through the meticulous study of works by Kant, Goethe, Kleist, Nietzsche, Wittgenstein, Benn, Musil, and others. Gailus shows that the modern conception of "life" as a generative, organizing force internal to living beings emerged in the last decades of the eighteenth century in biological thought. At the core of this vitalist strand of thought, Gailus maintains, lies a persistent emphasis on the dynamics of formation and deformation, and thus on an intrinsically aesthetic dimension of life. Forms of Life brings this older discourse into critical conversation with contemporary discussions of biopolitics and vitalism, while also developing a rich conception of life that highlights, rather than suppresses, its protean character. Gailus demonstrates that life unfolds in the open-ended interweaving of the myriad forms and modalities of biological, ethical, political, psychical, aesthetic, and biographical systems.

El análisis de los poderes locales y regionales en México resulta particularmente relevante cuando, como ahora, se enfrentan los proyectos de descentralización y democratización de las últimas administraciones con los cambios y crisis de orden interno y externo, centrando el debate en los problemas de estructuración del Estado y del país. El poder y sus relaciones, la lógica de los actores sociales y los determinantes histórico-sociales, examinados por investigadores mexicanos y franceses, constituyen el tema central de los estudios aquí presentados.

The past fifty years have seen far-reaching changes in Palestinian society in the West Bank. The Israeli occupation which began in 1967, the political mobilization of the 1970s and 1980s, and the so-called peace process in the 1990s went together with deep social transformations, which not only changed the dynamics of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but also altered the figurations and conflict lines between different social groups within Palestinian society. This book is a sociological study of these transformation processes, based on a combination of Norbert Elias’ figurational sociology, social-constructivist biographical research, and Karl Mannheim’s sociology of knowledge and generational sociology. In addition to conflicts and tensions between inhabitants of the old refugee camps and the (new) urban middle class in the West Bank, the author focuses in particular on a latent Palestinian generational conflict: it is clear that members of the ‘Oslo Generation’ – meaning those who grew up during the Oslo peace process in the 1990s – have fewer power and life chances, and in particular fewer opportunities for meaning, than their predecessors in the generation of fighters and activists of the 1970s and 1980s.

Este livro reúne os resultados do esforço de observações e coletas em diferentes ambientes costeiros do Município de Pontal do Paraná por estudantes de mestrado e doutorado em Zoologia, da Universidade Federal do Paraná. O livro reúne fotos dos animais e plantas encontrados nos seguintes ambientes: praia, costão rochoso, manguezal e estuário. Adicionamos as observações que fizemos sobre as principais características de cada ambiente, sobre os desafios a que os organismos que ali vivem estão submetidos, suas adaptações para vencer esses desafios e seus hábitos de vida. Este livro é uma oportunidade para iniciar estudos de biologia marinha, focando a ecologia de alguns ecossistemas litorâneos com uma linguagem acessível a não especialistas. Trata-se também de um guia de identificação, ao trazer a maioria das espécies identificadas pelo nome comum e nome científico, de modo que o leitor possa fazer a sua própria pesquisa na medida de seu interesse. Les répliques de biens de consommation que les artistes zurichois Peter Fischli et David Weiss se sont mis à exécuter dès 1991 oscillent entre une superficialité, dont Fredric Jameson a fait un trait définitoire du postmodernisme, et un épaississement matériel propre aux choses. Simples images d’artefacts dont on ne peut tirer aucun bénéfice, elles évoquent à la fois la lente fréquentation d’objets dans l’usage quotidien qui informe notre vie. S’attachant à examiner la place qu’elles occupent dans l’histoire de l’art contemporain et à décrire notamment la relation qu’elles entretiennent avec les productions artistiques, littéraires, théoriques des années 1960, ce livre est aussi bien une réflexion sur le temps, tel que les œuvres le construisent.

With rapid developments being made in the exploration of marine resources, coastal geohazard and offshore geotechnics have attracted a great deal of attention from coastal geotechnical engineers, with significant progress being made in recent years. Due to the complicated nature of marine environmnets, there are numerous natural marine geohazard preset throughout the world’s marine areas, e.g., the South China Sea. In addition, damage to offshore infrastructure (e.g., monopiles, bridge piers, etc.) and their supporting installations (pipelines, power transmission cables, etc.) has occurred in the last decades. A better understanding of the fundamental mechanisms and soil behavior of the seabed in marine environments will help engineers in the design and planning processes of coastal geotechnical engineering projects. The purpose of this book is to present the recent advances made in the field of coastal geohazards and offshore geotechnics. The book will provide researchers with information reagrding the recent developments in the field, and possible future developments. The book is composed of eighteen papers, covering three main themes: (1) the mechanisms of fluid–seabed interactions and the instability associated with seabeds when they are under dynamic loading (papers 1–5); (2) evaluation of the stability of marine infrastructure, including pipelines (papers 6–8), piled foundation and bridge piers (papers 9–12), submarine tunnels (paper 13), and other supported foundations (paper 14); and (3) coastal geohazards, including submarine landslides and slope stability (papers 15–16) and other geohazard issues (papers 17–18). The editors hope that this book will functoin as a guide for researchers, scientists, and scholars, as well as practitioners of coastal and offshore engineering.

The here collected contributions relating to the 46th International Conference of the Representation Disciplines Teachers, organized jointly by Sapienza University of Rome, Roma Tre University, and San Raffaele Roma University, aim to offer the scientific community a reflection on the theoretical and methodological aspects related to the concept of èkphrasis, a term that, in the field of representation, concerns descriptive, analogical, and digital activities that generate new knowledge in several areas of application. The Conference aims to place at the center of the discussion an interpretation of the concept of research that, without neglecting an idea of study, protection, and enhancement of environmental and cultural heritage, focuses on the needs of contemporary society and its possible developments, making use of innovative theoretical, methodological, and operational activities, including those characterized by an interdisciplinary approach. According to this interpretation, research can also be seen as a foreshadowing of the definition and testing of experimental proposals aimed at exploring new areas of investigation: this opens up imaginative and utopian perspectives in the relationship between the sciences, the arts, and the disciplines that contribute to common goals, through the experimentation of methods, techniques, and languages for conceiving, prefiguring, designing, and representing.

Moderne Wissenschaftsgeschichte ist nicht gleichzusetzen mit einer Geschichte der abstrakten und empirischen Wahrheitsfindung. Genauso wenig reduziert sie sich auf die meist als intellektuell begriffenen Inhalte. Wissenschaft vollzieht sich vielmehr im sozialen Raum und wird damit stets von wissenschaftsfernen Aspekten beeinflusst. Somit müssen auch die Gründungsväter des Deutschen Historischen Instituts Paris als sozial determinierte Akteure gelten, die in diesem Band als Wissenschaftsorganisatoren zu erleben sein werden. Gleichzeitig erfahren wir mehr über die für ihre wissenschaftliche Arbeit charakteristischen Methoden, über ihre Rolle bei der Repräsentation von Raum und ihre Arbeit im Spannungsfeld von Wissenschaft und Politik.
