The construction of the dam at Petit Saut by Électricité de France in the French Guyane gave place to an important archaeological rescue operation. Carried out from 1990 to 1995, this was the largest ever programme for an overseas French department of which the history was scarcely known. This volume represents the results of these researches in the Sinnamary river basin for the last four centuries of our millenium. Based on archives, travellers tales, old maps and archaeological work, this study brings new elements to the history of this part of South America : the formation of the colony during the 17th and 18th centuries, its settlement, its economy and material culture. With the development of gold production from the 19th century, the Guyane appears to be another California. The jail at Saut Tigre was created in 1933 for Indochinese prisoners who worked on development projects in the Inini territory up until 1944. This work contains an important dictionary of place-names which constitutes a documentary source without precedent. A second volume will soon be consecrated to the Amerindian sites discovered during the same operation.

Education is arguably the central arena where the discipline of anthropology is reproduced, challenged, and renewed. This volume examines how anthropology is taught and transformed in diverse institutional and socio-political contexts worldwide. Covering themes such as multimodal teaching, research-led learning, and disciplinary boundaries, the book offers new insights into the changing role of teaching within anthropology. This book compiles ethnographically grounded case studies to explore how educators respond to technological advancements, neoliberal influences, and calls for decolonising pedagogy. By highlighting content-specific strategies and comparative reflection, this study views anthropological education as a vibrant and critical space where anthropology is reimagined and revitalised.

This is followed by a general overview of proceedings before the First-tier Tribunal, as well as an explanation of special rules for two selected chambers and appeal proceedings before the Upper Tribunal. Finally, the author discusses alternative dispute resolutions and legal aid law.

In the past decade alone, more than ten million corpses have been exhumed and reburied across the Chinese landscape. The campaign has transformed China's graveyards into sites of acute personal, social, political, and economic contestation. In this digital volume, three historians of China, Jeffrey Snyder-Reinke, Christian Henriot, and Thomas S. Mullaney, chart out the history of China's rapidly shifting deathscape. Each essay grapples with a different dimension of grave relocation and burial reform in China over the past three centuries: from the phenomenon of "baby towers" in the Lower Yangzi region of late imperial China, to the histories of death in the city of Shanghai, and finally to the history of grave relocation during the contemporary period, examined by Mullaney, when both its scale and tempo increased dramatically. Rounding off these historical analyses, a colophon by platform developers David McClure and Glen Worthey speaks to new reading methodologies emerging from a format in which text and map move in concert to advance historical argumentation.

"The Norwegian food market engenders strong opinions and substantial media attention, with questions regarding agricultural regulations, competition between retail food chains, and the relationship between chains and their suppliers fueling debate. Meanwhile the country’s politicians call for greater intervention. Much of the debate can seem to be happening “against our better judgment”. Vague assumptions about the state of the food sector, paired with a strong political will to apply initiatives, is reason enough to look closer at the situation. This anthology provides an up-to-date factual assessment of the entire value chain in the food market. Central topics include development of productivity in the various segments of the food chain, price differences between different countries, and effects of Norway’s tariff system. The book presents new contributions concerning the structure of the market, access to food stores and the significance of brand names, and especially to the kind of bargaining tactics employed between food chains and suppliers, with an overview of how their negotiations are carried out and possibilities for regulatory measures afforded under existing laws. Against Better Judgment in the Norwegian Food Sector confirms existing knowledge and presents new findings that deserve attention from the sector itself, the media and public authorities. The book will be of interest to everyone seeking to understand the Norwegian food sector and take part in its further development. The book’s chapters have been written by seven researchers with lengthy experience in the field, and edited by Frode Steen, a professor in the Department of Economics at the Norwegian School of Economics, and Ivar Pettersen, a senior advisor at the Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research."

The book collects a series of essays from a multidisciplinary perspective that aim to highlight how violence against women takes on much more subtle and complex forms than those that the news highlights almost daily. Gender-based violence, in fact, is directed against a person because of their gender identity, and therefore refers to that socio-cultural construct that defines roles and behaviours considered appropriate for men and women in a certain context and in a certain period historical. For this reason, the volume analyses the phenomenon from a historical and anthropological point of view, as well as from a legal and economic one. No less relevant is the focus on aspects related to gender medicine, a fundamental key to understanding every form of violence.
