Alors qu’il existe plusieurs atlas de l’Égypte ancienne, aucun atlas de l’Égypte contemporaine n’avait encore été publié. Cet ouvrage vient donc combler un vide, en offrant au grand public un panorama illustré de l’Égypte au début du XXIe siècle. Réunissant les contributions d’une cinquantaine de chercheur.e.s, il présente, sous une forme cartographiée et vulgarisée, les faits saillants et les enjeux de l’Égypte actuelle en matière politique, géopolitique, économique, démographique, sociale, environnementale et culturelle. Il s’appuie, à cette fin, sur des ressources documentaires inédites : les cartes notamment, qui exploitent les résultats du recensement officiel égyptien de 2017, offrent une version actualisée du territoire. This study examines the interactions between literature and occultism in Vienna around 1900. For the first time, it examines a comprehensive and disparate corpus of texts and asks how philological work relates to a worldview in which nothing is accidental and everything is meaningful. Occult knowledge operates in the realm of "border science": It intrudes into authorized areas and pushes the conventional boundaries of science, society, politics, and art. In short, it affects the self-image of a modern, progressive life around 1900. Literature is just one artistic form of expression among many in which boundaries are explored and pushed. At the heart of this study are nine thematic complexes that make the occult tangible in its everyday manifestations through a variety of literary and non-literary texts.

This reprint considers a wide variety of topics concerning molecular and clinical advances in understanding early mammalian embryo development. The authors of various chapters of this book examine oocyte biology, preimplantation embryo development, blastocyst implantation in the uterus, and second cellular lineage differentiation. In addition, epigenetic contributions to reproduction, which may occur throughout pregnancy and in resultant offspring, are also considered. Environmentally induced epigenetic changes in germ cells can render mammalian offspring less healthy, and these changes can be difficult to reverse. Included in these changes are those caused by assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs). It remains to be determined whether the healthiest preimplantation embryos develop in vitro in conditions that mimic the physiological environment in vivo or whether simpler conditions can also foster this development in vitro. In this regard, a number of advances as well as challenges in ART are considered by the authors of the chapters included in this book.

Based on original research, combining archives and oral testimonies, this work traces, from the first trial and error of systemic approaches in the 1960s to the turning point of sustainable development in the 2000s, the history of the department Sad - Agrarian systems and development - from INRA (now INRAE). From its origins, Sad has been characterized by its distancing from agricultural modernization, conceived as an enterprise of rationalization and technical and economic optimization. Present in the fragile areas of agrarian abandonment, Sad will be no less concerned about the future of large-scale farming areas plagued by doubts about the virtues of intensification. Drawing from a large archive of photographs created during the war by amateur soldier-photographers and professional reporters alike, Justin Court explores how visual depictions of the war were used to construct and distort memory in the highly contested realm of war commemoration in the Weimar. These books of photography reveal an effort to shape how the war was visually remembered in order to influence public opinion on myriad matters following in the war’s wake, including notions of German guilt and responsibility, the legitimacy of the Republic, and the political future of the German nation. By utilizing relatively neglected sources, The Photographic Fix expands scholarship on German war photography to illuminate how images from the war and Weimar period reflected the public’s understanding of the medium at the time.
