Este livro, sobre o escritor pernambucano Hermilo Borba Filho, associa a cultura de resistência à cultura popular, uma sintonia com uma linguagem que busca enaltecer a visão de mundo popular, numa idiossincrasia irreverente em que o palavrão, a gíria e o calão atuam como representação de uma realidade que aponta sempre como imagens de vida e as narrativas, de forma crítica, servem de esteio para testemunhar os acontecimentos que cerceiam os desmandos do aparato policial a que são submetidas as pessoas em tempos de ditadura.

Epidemics, pandemics, contagion, immunity, social distance, zoonosis are just a few of the concepts that have become commonplace in the academic community and in everyday conversation since the outbreak of the Covid-19. This book aims to provide the reader with a philosophical guide to this conceptual vocabulary by investigating the meanings, implications, and history of words related to the current emergency of Covid-19. This book addresses the fundamental anthropological, ethical, and political issues that have come under the spotlight of the public debate (life and death, freedom and authority, fear and protection, poverty and access to medical care). In this context, particular attention is given to the conflict between the scientific discourse on the one hand, and irrational bias, misinformation and fake news on the other.The SARS-CoV-2 outbreak is only the latest episode in a long history of pandemics and epidemics that have constellated human history since its very beginning. Authoritative accounts have made some of these contagious plagues famous (Thucydides’ pages immortalizing the Athenian epidemic of the 5th century B.C.; Boccaccio’s description of the Black Death; Manzoni’s depiction of the Plague ravaging 17th-century Milan). Because a full understanding of the present is not possible without historical inquiry, several contributions in the book explore debates about calamitous phenomena as documented in philosophical literature from Antiquity to 20th-century philosophy.

Recent Topics in Electromagnetic Compatability discusses several topics in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and electromagnetic interference (EMI), including measurements, shielding, emission, interference, biomedical devices, and numerical modeling. Over five sections, chapters address the electromagnetic spectrum of corona discharge, life cycle assessment of flexible electromagnetic shields, EMC requirements for implantable medical devices, analysis and design of absorbers for EMC applications, artificial surfaces, and media for EMC and EMI shielding, and much more.

Under the title "Education, Importance and Use of the Russian Verbal Aspect", a textbook is presented intended for advanced teaching at universities, colleges and high schools, for high-level, linguistically based self-education ("Autonomous Learning", better "autonomous study"), as well for teachers at colleges, language schools, high schools. This Part 1 contains the theoretical foundations - a didactic summary of the results of our work on the terminativity / aterativity of the Russian verb (Schlegel 1999) and the aspect-related reference moment (Schlegel 2001).

Water buffalo is of great significance for the livestock industry worldwide because of its food value and agricultural importance. Thanks to its adaptability to tropical climate, innovative breeding and animal husbandry, its role in the industry has increased over time. However, vast economic losses have also been experienced in this sector due to infectious diseases that primarily affect the reproduction of water buffaloes. This book provides current information on emerging infectious diseases in water buffalo - bacterial (leptospirosis, brucellosis, and bovine tuberculosis), viral (bovine ephemeral fever, rotaviral infection, and bovine viral diarrhea), protozoal (trypanosomiasis, neosporosis, and cryptosporidiosis), fungal (Deg Nala disease), and endoparasitic pathogen infections (fasciolosis and schistosomiasis) - including their manifestations, mode of transfer, diagnostic protocols, eradication process, and control measures applied. Therefore, this book should contribute to a better understanding of the mechanisms of these diseases, as well as how to control and manage these kinds of infections. Furthermore, the book contains data regarding the huge impact of these infections and how vastly they have affected the sector's economic performance.

This book explores anthropological and global art collections as a catalyst, a medium, and an expression of relations. Relations—between and among objects and media, people, and material and immaterial contexts—define, configure, and potentially transform collection-related social and professional networks, discourses and practices, and increasingly museums and other collecting institutions themselves. The contributors argue that a focus on the—often contested—making and remaking of relations provides a unique conceptual entrypoint for understanding collections’—and ‘their’ objects’ and media’s—complex histories, contemporary webs of interactions, and potential futures. The chapters examine the local, translocal, and transregional relations of collections with regard to their affective, aesthetic, performative, and socio-moral qualities and situate them in the larger geopolitical constellations of precolonial, colonial, and postcolonial settings. Together they investigate ongoing shifts in the relations of collections and collecting institutions by identifying alternative approaches to conceive of, and deal with, anthropological and global art collections, objects, and media in the future. The book is of interest to scholars from anthropology, global art history, museum studies, and heritage studies. Invisibles, niées ou condamnées, les amours clandestines durables n’en sont pas moins bien présentes dans la vie sociale. Elles sont le quotidien de nombreux hommes et femmes en couple hétérosexuel ; elles occupent des esprits, des cœurs, des agendas et des hôtels. Ce livre invite à explorer ces « jardins secrets » à partir de l’analyse d’une trentaine de récits de vie et d’un corpus de témoignages recueillis sur Internet, traités sous l’angle de la sociologie du genre et des socialisations. L’auteure montre notamment que l’extraconjugalité durable se caractérise par la transgression de deux normes fondamentales du couple contemporain : la norme de véracité et l’égalité des sexes. Mais au-delà de la démarche scientifique, elle propose des clefs pour la compréhension de ces liaisons, à la fois fascinantes et repoussantes, et plus largement de l’amour et de la sexualité des couples hétérosexuels.

Agricultural Meteorology and Climatology is an introductory textbook for meteorology and climatology courses at faculties of agriculture and for agrometeorology and agroclimatology courses at faculties whose curricula include these subjects. Additionally, this book may be a useful source of information for practicing agronomists and all those interested in different aspects of weather and climate impacts on agriculture. In times when scientific knowledge and practical experience increase exponentially, it is not a simple matter to prepare a textbook. Therefore we decided not to constrain Agricultural Meteorology and Climatology by its binding pages. Only a part of it is a conventional textbook. The other part includes numerical examples (easy-to-edit worksheets) and recommended additional reading available on-line in digital form. To keep the reader's attention, the book is divided into three sections: Basics, Applications and Agrometeorological Measurements with Numerical Examples.

As climate change intensifies, we must embrace renewable solutions like solar energy to combat greenhouse gas emissions. Harnessing the sun's power, solar energy provides a limitless and eco-friendly source of electricity, reducing our reliance on fossil fuels. Rooftops offer prime real estate for solar panel installation, optimizing sun exposure, and maximizing clean energy generation at the point of use. For installing solar panels, inspecting the suitability of building rooftops is essential because faulty roof structures or obstructions can cause a significant reduction in power generation. Computer vision-based methods proved helpful in such inspections in large urban areas. However, previous studies mainly focused on image-based checking, which limits their usability in 3D applications such as roof slope inspection and building height determination required for proper solar panel installation. This study proposes a GIS-integrated urban point cloud segmentation method to overcome these challenges. Specifically, given a point cloud of a metropolitan area, first, it is localized in the GIS map. Then a deep-learning-based point cloud classification model is trained to detect buildings and rooftops. Finally, a rule-based checking determines the building height, roof slopes, and their appropriateness for solar panel installation. While testing at the National Taiwan University campus, the proposed method demonstrates its efficacy in assessing urban rooftops for solar panel installation

Dès 1674, Pierre Perrault publiait De l’origine des fontaines, un ouvrage en deux parties : une critique des concepts émis avant le xviie siècle, suivie d’observations et d’expériences conduisant aux bases de l’hydrologie continentale. Les deux premiers chapitres de notre ouvrage sont la transcription, annotée, du texte de Pierre Perrault en français moderne. Le troisième chapitre est entièrement consacré à la critique de ses expériences vis-à-vis des connaissances d’aujourd’hui, trois siècles plus tard.

L'étude de la reconstruction des campagnes limousines pendant la guerre de Cent Ans et jusqu'au XVIe siècle permet d'analyser le cas original d'un « povre pays » (Froissart) en proie à des difficultés particulières pour remettre en culture ses terres « abses ». On est loin ici des traditionnelles reconstructions triomphantes des « bons pays » du XVe siècle. Victimes d'un environnement naturel hostile, de l'imbroglio des guerres - de la guerre « anglaise » à la « guerre au village » - et des « malheurs des temps », les campagnes limousines souffrent du manque d'ambition et de capitaux des élites régionales - livres de raison et registres de notaires ruraux en font foi - d'une surprenante faiblesse démographique et de la fuite d'une partie de leurs paysans vers des horizons meilleurs. Si bien que les tentatives de reconstruction, cahotiques et velléitaires, n'aboutissent - malgré certains efforts des communautés paysannes et les sacrifices seigneuriaux - qu'à des résultats sélectifs et limités, « croissant infertile » de l'est abandonné au profit des « fleurs de pays » de l'ouest et du sud. A tant de reconstructions réussies, le Limousin oppose l'originalité d'une reconstruction rurale en partie manquée.

Handwritten entertainment fiction (shouchaoben wenxue) circulated widely, albeit clandestinely, during the Cultural Revolution (1966-76), often in hasty handwriting on fragile paper. As a result, we are confronted with divergent witnesses without an identifiable original urtext. Divergence often extends to variant narratives of the “same” story, which in most cases lack a distinct author. Consequently, the authenticity of the narrative cannot be seen as an extension of an individual’s authority. Rather, authenticity rests on a distinct narrative core which is embellished by variations in plot, style, or characterization of the protagonists. However, these texts are authentic historical sources providing insights into the realities and zeitgeist of the era: their materiality, including marginalia, illuminating the process in which these texts were created, circulated, and read. Often, their contents reflect on historical realities. We therefore discuss multiple copies of Three Journeys to Jiangnan, as well as introducing our own digital edition of the texts. They are rendered authentic by the contexts of their production and circulation, their material fragility, and the resulting instability in contents, that still retains a relational narrative core.

Antropologías visuales latinoamericanas traza las genealogías, investigaciones y formas de enseñanza de este campo en Latinoamérica. El libro abandona el enunciado en singular –la antropología visual en Latinoamérica– para reconocer su condición plural y diversa, e identificar vectores que cruzan las prácticas y alimentan las reflexiones. En los capítulos que lo componen se discuten las interrelaciones de la antropología con las artes, los museos y archivos, la producción audiovisual, los medios de comunicación, así como las metodologías antropológicas experimentales. Los textos se basan en una estrategia de escritura colectiva entre colegas de distintos países de la región, lo cual vuelve más diversos y yuxtapuestos los recorridos y debates propuestos. Este libro contribuye a la urgente tarea de explorar la conformación local y mutua, regional y múltiple, de las antropologías latinoamericanas, así como sus aportes y su relación con la disciplina antropológica en general.

In the study about the book in various historical and cultural contexts, the school’s “bibliological objects” were examined, among them, the library and other book collections for the needs of the didactic process; programs and didactic realizations intended to teach reading and learning to read; various certificates of pupils’ and teachers’ reading, both community and individual. The main concepts and directions of research were defined in reference to representative examples of research in the field of Polish historical and applied bibliology from the last thirty years, regarding the culture of the school book from the Middle Ages to the end of the 50s. At the same time, “tangential fields” of bibliological research in this subject were presented with studies in the humanities and social sciences, especially in the history of education and upbringing. Attention was paid to those categories used in the theory of bibliology that are useful and even necessary for historical and cultural research. The collected examples convince us that the perspective of observation clearly shifted, not only in the science about the book, from “classic” objects, such as libraries, book collections, book institutions and editorial copies, into repertoires – canons of reading, in order to read their cultural meanings and function. The resources of the school book were examined not only because of formal features – editorial and writing, but above all as sui generis cultural projects – transferring a specific model of knowledge and competence and a system of values.
