Are computer games literature? »Games and Literature« explores the intersections of literary studies and digital games. This volume examines how games function as narrative media, cultural artefacts, and objects of scholarly preservation. With perspectives from literary scholars, archivists, and game researchers, it highlights the evolving status of games within academia and cultural memory. Emphasising interdisciplinary approaches, the book addresses storytelling, archiving practices, and game analysis, contributing to ongoing debates on how cultural artefacts evolve through digital media. Abstract: Der Sammelband »Games & Literature«, hervorgegangen aus einer internationalen Konferenz am Deutschen Literaturarchiv Marbach, untersucht die Schnittstellen von Literaturwissenschaft und digitalen Spielen. Literaturwissenschaftler/-innen, Spieleforscher/-innen und Vertreter/-innen sammelnder Einrichtungen beleuchten Games u. a. als narrative Medien (Storytelling), kulturelle Artefakte und Objekte wissenschaftlicher Bewahrung und Archivierung.

La salud reproductiva surgió como un intento de recuperar el carácter multifacético de la reproducción, evidenciando la variedad de influencias sociales que repercuten en la misma y el papel protagónico que tienen las personas que se reproducen, en la conformación de las normas que influyen sobre dichos procesos. Este replanteamiento analítico y político ha permitido sistematizar la forma en que diferentes políticas públicas repercuten directa o indirectamente sobre la reproducción, a la par que diferentes marcos normativos estimulan o inhiben el protagonismo de los individuos en la construcción de sus procesos reproductivo. También se ha identificado la forma en que el quehacer colectivo de diferentes actores sociales mantiene, cuestiona, transgrede o transforma componentes de los marcos normativos y de las influencias institucionales. El presente libro integra algunos textos con el fin de estimular una reflexión colectiva sobre la relación entre políticas públicas, marcos normativos y actores sociales vinculados con la sexualidad y la salud reproductiva.

The topics of physicality and face in Kleist and Kafka as well as the problem of perception, which are the focus of this work, fit seamlessly into the context of a fruitful exchange of different scientific experiences. The present work underlines and promotes a double perspective: the methodology of German studies, which is based on philosophy and cultural anthropology, on the one hand, and the literary and art-historical approach of the Italian, historical and humanistic tradition on the other, which is still clinging, in a certain way, to the canon of beauty of the late Renaissance.

While militaristic and patriotic organisations formed an important part of political culture in Edwardian Britain, 1918 often marks a terminus for histories of organised militarism. Taking the end of the First World War as its starting point instead, this book is the first full-length study of militarism and militaristic associational culture in interwar Britain. It argues that militarism was able to survive World War One, despite the competing rise of liberal internationalism, pacifism, and anti-war sentiment. Focusing on the ideas, aims, and activities of the Navy League and the Air League of the British Empire – two extra-parliamentary organisations established to promote naval and aerial supremacy – the book examines how the Leagues negotiated the trauma of the First World War and how they contributed to the societal and military preparation for a second global conflict as the clouds of war gathered in the late 1930s.Drawing on extensive archival research, the book explains how these Leagues mobilised broad public and political support and what the story of each organisation tells us about the impact of war on British society and culture, civil-military relations, political and private activism, military theatre and commemoration, youth, and the politics of disarmament, collective security, internationalism, and national defence. In doing so, it demonstrates that martial and militaristic sentiment remained an important part of mainstream British political culture, despite the ravages of war.

En esta obra se aborda la situación de violencia y desigualdad que enfrentan los periodistas en América Latina, centrándose en el caso de México por ser este el país en donde se ha asesinado a un mayor número de comunicadores en los últimos 22 años. El enfoque se dirige hacia los periodistas de frontera, aquellos que trabajan en los márgenes físicos, políticos, económicos, culturales y tecnológicos de un territorio, y cuya condición no puede entenderse únicamente como un reflejo de lo que ocurre a nivel nacional o internacional, ya que presentan características propias y particularidades que los modelos existentes no logran explicar. Además, se explora el contexto histórico y político en el que los periodistas han ejercido su labor, incluyendo las transiciones democráticas y los regímenes autoritarios, y se destaca el impacto de la guerra contra el narcotráfico en la violencia ejercida hacia ellos en México. La autora enfatiza en la necesidad de adoptar nuevos marcos de análisis para comprender la situación de los periodistas de frontera, tomando en cuenta los márgenes del estado, la esfera pública a nivel microlocal y la capacidad que tienen para enfrentar las crisis.

In the 2021-2022 period, European firms have faced historically high inflation, with annual increases in consumer prices peaking at 11.5 % in October 2022. While the linkage between high inflation and investments is expected to be negative, through higher uncertainty, financial tightening, downward pressures on demand and worsening economy outlook, there are couple of drivers that can explain the positive investment dynamic during the recent high-inflation period. This paper shows evidence that investment decisions depend on firms’ ability to pass higher costs onto consumers (the so-called pass-through rate). A high pass-through of costs lowers the immediate negative impact on profitability and internal sources are less affected. Moreover, the recent inflation spike has been strongly driven by the energy and other input prices that have pushed firms to invest in energy efficiency as a cost-saving strategy. As additional driver of the higher investment during the recent high inflation period, firms with a large reserve of cash accumulation or those with easier access to external financing may endure this high inflation environment relatively better. Liquid assets are more vulnerable to the negative impact of inflation and by investing it, its value might be protected from the devaluation amid accelerating inflation. European firms increased substantially their cash buffer in the period before the energy price shock, helped also by the massive COVID-19 liquidity support. The higher cash reserves might provide a buffer for the continuation of the investments or to engage in new investments of energy efficiency, as an adaptation strategy amid high energy costs.

Polyphenol and flavone compounds are abundant in fruits, vegetables and lots of other agricultural products (such as blueberries, cherries, grapes, onions, beans, cabbage, rice, sorghum, maize, etc.) and have received considerable attention for their health-promoting properties in many chronic disorders, including cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, etc. These properties of polyphenols and flavones have been historically ascribed to their antioxidant properties. This reprint collected some of the latest research articles that help to highlight the most recent advances on polyphenol extracts from agricultural products and their role in these health-enhancing benefits.

This detailed study in religious studies is intended as a contribution to the study of Hinduisms. It reconstructs Hindu temple practices in Zurich and Vienna, representative of two national contexts. The focus is on the question of the practical execution of events in the Hindu temple, i.e. the question of which practices create a temple as such. Committed to an ethnomethodological approach, the study reconstructs the routine of communal Hindu temple practice - the 'doing mandir'. In doing so, it fills a research gap and contributes to the establishment of practice theory approaches in religious studies and their translation into the concretion of empirical research.

Cet ouvrage présente, de manière condensée, la substance d’une réunion de deux jours, organisée les 19 et 20 février 2013 par l’Académie des sciences sur l’emploi des fluides caloporteurs dans les réacteurs à neutrons rapides de IVe Génération. Ce type de réacteur doit fissionner tous les noyaux d’uranium et pas seulement la fraction minime d’uranium 235 des réacteurs des générations précédentes. Il doit ainsi travailler dans des conditions plus extrêmes, pour entraîner les produits de fission hors du combustible et transformer cette énergie de fission en chaleur à l’aide d’un fluide caloporteur. Cette chaleur à haute température sera finalement transformée en énergie consommable sous forme d’électricité ou de travail mécanique. Le choix d’un fluide caloporteur approprié conduit au développement de réacteurs de caractéristiques différentes. C’est ce qui explique que, dans l’histoire déjà longue et complexe de cette question, plusieurs solutions aient été envisagées et plus ou moins développées, en France comme au niveau international. L’Académie des sciences, en collaboration avec des membres de l’Académie des technologies, a estimé souhaitable de faire un état des lieux aussi complet et précis que possible. Elle s’est assurée la participation essentielle des spécialistes les plus compétents dans les secteurs actuellement les plus actifs. Après avoir présenté le cadre général du problème posé au point de vue scientifique technique et industriel, ce texte analyse quatre types de solutions, qui concernent les métaux liquides, les gaz et les sels fondus. Il souligne finalement les problèmes communs à ces solutions, mais aussi les caractéristiques différentes auxquelles elles conduisent, notamment en ce qui concerne la taille et le régime thermique des réacteurs. L’ouvrage est complété par un CD rom contenant l’ensemble des présentations scientifiques effectuées.

Die Arbeit beschreibt die Abhängigkeiten zwischen den Prozessen des Facility Management (FM) und den Primärprozessen im Krankenhaus in einem ganzheitlichen Modell. Die Kenntnis über die Leistungszusammenhänge der beiden Ebenen bildet die Grundlage für eine verursachergerechte Verrechnung der FM Kosten im Krankenhaus am Beispiel der Funktionsstelle OP-Bereich. Dabei schafft Transparenz die Basis für eine strategische Ressourcen- und Infrastrukturplanung.

This article presents the analysis of music lovers’ artistic choices in the context of their view on other national and cultural groups. Since music is a kind of nonverbal communication, the attitude to certain musical compositions might be perceived as an expression of the level of tolerance. Tolerance is interpreted here – according to Ija Lazari-Pawłowska – as a positive value, active attitude of understanding and respect. Traditional classical music lovers, who prefer music from centuries between 17th and mid 20th, are relatively conservative, while contemporary music lovers tend to be more open. Regardless of this fact, some musical compositions are characterized by the predominance of non- -musical content, which is a result of their background and way of presentation more than the intension of composers themselves. This situation indicates that many listeners are schematic in their perception. It reveals space for aesthetic education. However, this schematic attitude is often strengthened in school education; the opportunity to shape tolerance by using music must be assessed as an unfulfilled potential.

The tenth-anniversary edition of a foundational text in digital media and learning, examining new media practices that range from podcasting to online romantic breakups. Hanging Out, Messing Around, and Geeking Out, first published in 2009, has become a foundational text in the field of digital media and learning. Reporting on an ambitious three-year ethnographic investigation into how young people live and learn with new media in varied settings—at home, in after-school programs, and in online spaces—it presents a flexible and useful framework for understanding the ways that young people engage with and through online platforms: hanging out, messing around, and geeking out, otherwise known as HOMAGO. Integrating twenty-three case studies—which include Harry Potter podcasting, video-game playing, music sharing, and online romantic breakups—in a unique collaborative authorship style, Hanging Out, Messing Around, and Geeking Out combines in-depth descriptions of specific group dynamics with conceptual analysis. Since its original publication, digital learning labs in libraries and museums around the country have been designed around the HOMAGO mode and educators have created HOMAGO guidebooks and toolkits. This tenth-anniversary edition features a new introduction by Mizuko Ito and Heather Horst that discusses how digital youth culture evolved in the intervening decade, and looks at how HOMAGO has been put into practice. This book was written as a collaborative effort by members of the Digital Youth Project, a three-year research effort funded by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and conducted at the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Southern California.

Za Soncem in Luno je najsvetlejše nebesno telo Venera, zato je ta planet imel tudi v Mezoameriki pomembno mesto v kozmologiji in religiji. Venero je personificiral Quetzalcóatl, eno najpomembnejših in najkompleksnejših mezoameriških božanstev: bil je stvarnik, bog življenja in rodovitnosti. Nekatere različice mita, v katerem Quetzalcóatl nastopa kot svečenik in tolteški vladar, pripovedujejo, da se je po odhodu proti vzhodu spremenil v zvezdo Danico, torej v Venero. Če so tako vzvišenega boga enačili z Venero, je ta planet moral imeti izjemno pomembno vlogo. Božanska zvezda se tako pojavlja kot protagonist številnih mitov in verovanj~bila je predmet predanega čaščenja, obenem pa tudi potrpežljivega opazovanja in preučevanja. Avtor podrobno spregovori o tem, zakaj je bilo to nebesno telo tako edinstveno, kakšen pomen je imelo v kulturi in kako je vplivalo na življenje tedanjih ljudstev. Delo je v španskem izvirniku izšlo leta 1996 v Mehiki.
