Current data – especially from the post-pandemic period – show an increase in difficulties among young people, including anxiety, bullying and relationship problems. The development of life skills such as empathy, interpersonal skills and emotional management counteracts these difficulties. Based on this, the peer tutoring project "La Banca del Tempo" was launched at various secondary schools with the aim of promoting adolescent well-being by means of cooperation- and solidarity-oriented educational strategies. The study analyses in particular the experiences of the young tutors, i.e. the students providing assistance, and what they have learned from this peer tutoring project. The results of the quantitative-qualitative study show an improvement in relationship skills, self-esteem and metacognitive awareness. Peer tutoring thus increases the well-being of young people and promotes the formation of supportive networks among peers.

Physiotherapy and occupational therapy in stroke rehabilitation has developed over the last decades into an evidence-based therapeutically science and includes forms of therapeutic treatment in which patient-oriented decisions are to be made explicitly on the basis of proven effectiveness. The starting point of this book are observations that indicate contradictions between everyday practice and the findings of the therapeutic sciences. This results in considerable difficulties in the transfer of theory to practice. The aim of this book was to present the problem from a psychological point of view, to discuss the consequences and to think about possible ways to overcome the gap between theory and practice. The current state of research on transfer of theory to practice in neurorehabilitation and the results of problem-centered interviews with experts will be presented. In summary, the results show that therapeutic behavior is influenced by a complex interaction of opportunities, capabilities and motivation. On all three levels, there are a variety of possible approaches for improvement. There are many indications that a change in behavior is possible, but that this change requires comprehensive approaches at all levels (abilities, opportunities and motivation). The results also show that appropriate actions must be tailored to the respective settings and target groups.

Zunächst in Göttingen.

The massive increase in energy demand and the related rapid development of unconventional reservoirs has opened up exciting new energy supply opportunities along with new, seemingly intractable engineering and research challenges. The energy industry has primarily depended on a heuristic approach—rather than a systematic approach—to optimize and tackle the various challenges when developing new and improving the performance of existing unconventional reservoirs. Industry needs accurate estimations of well production performance and of the cumulative estimated ultimate reserves, accounting for uncertainty. This Special Issue presents 10 original and high-quality research articles related to the modeling of unconventional reservoirs, which showcase advanced methods for fractured reservoir simulation, and improved production forecasting techniques.

This innovative book integrates the disciplines of biomedical science, biomedical engineering, biotechnology, physiological engineering, and hospital management technology. Herein, Biomedical science covers topics on disease pathways, models and treatment mechanisms, and the roles of red palm oil and phytomedicinal plants in reducing HIV and diabetes complications by enhancing antioxidant activity. Biomedical engineering coves topics of biomaterials (biodegradable polymers and magnetic nanomaterials), coronary stents, contact lenses, modelling of flows through tubes of varying cross-section, heart rate variability analysis of diabetic neuropathy, and EEG analysis in brain function assessment. Biotechnology covers the topics of hydrophobic interaction chromatography, protein scaffolds engineering, liposomes for construction of vaccines, induced pluripotent stem cells to fix genetic diseases by regenerative approaches, polymeric drug conjugates for improving the efficacy of anticancer drugs, and genetic modification of animals for agricultural use. Physiological engineering deals with mathematical modelling of physiological (cardiac, lung ventilation, glucose regulation) systems and formulation of indices for medical assessment (such as cardiac contractility, lung disease status, and diabetes risk). Finally, Hospital management science and technology involves the application of both biomedical engineering and industrial engineering for cost-effective operation of a hospital.

Could fungal pathogens outsmart us before we find ways to combat them?Humans and fungi share nearly 50 percent of the same DNA. Because we're related, designing drugs to combat the varieties that attack us is a challenge. Meanwhile, in an ever hotter, wetter world, fungi may be finding new ways to thrive, queueing up global outbreak potentials for which no vaccine and woefully few medications exist; some fungi are already beginning to resist treatment. Among other lifeforms, bats, amphibians, and essential crops are also increasingly threatened by these pathogens. Enter fungal kingdom frontiersman Dr. Arturo Casadevall, an epidemiologist, professor, and inventor. Casadevall shares how the 1990s AIDS epidemic's fungal complications drove his medical mycology work, how COVID-19's fungal incidences underscore the continuing threat to the immunocompromised, and how he and his Johns Hopkins University laboratory team are discovering ways to counter the threats posed by these cunning, hungry combatants. What If Fungi Win? describes the beneficial roles of fungi along with their mischievous and deadly impacts and illustrates how committed experts like Casadevall are researching ways to save us and our food supplies. In addition to an overview of blights, lichens, molds, mushrooms, rusts, and smuts, readers will learn about:• how fungi proliferated following the mass dinosaur extinction• Oregon's ancient 2,384-acre Armillaria ostoyae—Earth's largest organism • the rye fungus ergot that may have fueled the Salem witch trials• mushrooms used to create vegan leather and eco-friendly packaging, as well as plastic-consuming fungi• why it's critical that funding institutions pay attention to fungal risks and aid scientists in their work.

The paper focuses on the issue of the impact of the Fascist regime’s own language on the activity of the administrative judge. After recalling the problem of the context in which the language of the administrative judge is framed, the investigation highlights some possible “symptoms” of a “sensibility” to be assessed on the level of stylistic and expressive formulas. If, in some cases, this language has been the subject of a particular criticism and attack, in others cases it is possible to highlight how a certain assonance emerges indirectly with the typical speech of the regime. In this perspective, it can be recognized that the linguistic “charm” of the regime, while not affecting the independence of judgment of the administrative judge, had a certain impact on the style of some decisions of the Italian Council of State. An analysis conducted on some paradigmatic cases is able to identify, with regard to a part of the jurisprudence developed after the Thirties, a real “climax” on the linguistic and expressive level.

As scores of crises over the past century have shown, the stock market is manipulable and manipulated. The market is composed of human-made machines, which are affected by a lack of predictability more fundamental than the human: the noise of the material world. N. Adriana Knouf draws on historical and contemporary documents to show how noise—sonic, informatic, or otherwise—affects the ways in which financial markets function. How Noise Matters to Finance draws on different forms of financial noise, paying attention to how materiality and the interference of humans and machines causes the meanings of noise to shift over space and time.Forerunners is a thought-in-process series of breakthrough digital works. Written between fresh ideas and finished books, Forerunners draws on scholarly work initiated in notable blogs, social media, conference plenaries, journal articles, and the synergy of academic exchange. This is gray literature publishing: where intense thinking, change, and speculation take place in scholarship.

In Africa, tree plantations are likely to be developed for several reasons: restoration of production capacities and services provided by natural forests, enhancement of agroforestry lands, easier harvesting of wood and non-wood forest products, etc. As exotic species only provide specific services, it is important to revitalize the planting of local species. This is the purpose of this guide, which focuses on species of dense rainforests, capitalizing on the results of past and recent trials in six African countries, and on the This is the purpose of this guide, which focuses on species of dense rainforests, capitalizing on the results of past and recent trials in six African countries, and mobilizing individual skills and knowledge. The book provides a practical approach to the various stages of a silvicultural program: seed collection and management, nursery construction and management, and plantation installation and management. An estimate of the costs and profitability of such plantations is also provided. Finally, the book describes in detail the silvicultural itinerary of 50 tree species of the African rainforests. This guide is intended for a wide audience: managers, forestry technicians and engineers, students and scientists interested in tropical silviculture.

This open access book thoroughly investigates the domain of policy design tailored specifically for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with a central emphasis on harmonizing these policies with the preexisting social capital inherent to these enterprises, consistent with the mandate of Bank Indonesia to guard price stability and to promote financial stability, inclusive, and sustainable growth. The study, grounded in the context of Indonesia, underscores the paramount importance of a systematic approach, necessitating social planners and stakeholders to engage in a preliminary phase of active listening, empathetic understanding, and comprehensive knowledge of the diverse mental frameworks prevalent among MSMEs across the nation before embarking on the formulation of bespoke interventions. Readers of this scholarly work can anticipate gaining insightful perspectives into the nuanced policy preferences of both MSMEs and government officials. The methodologies employed, including the Analytic Hierarchy Process and Analytic Network Process, are not only presented but also subjected to rigorous feasibility assessments using the Mechanism Design Theory. Furthermore, the book delves into the intricate challenges faced by MSMEs, including addressing the financing gap and adapting to the digitalization landscape that considers the prevailing social capital, both of which significantly influence their overall productivity. Ultimately, the study underscores the pivotal role played by networks, rather than mere size and the usual suspects (financing, technology, and management), as the linchpin of social capital that profoundly shapes the performance of MSMEs within a specific socio-economic context.
