Classroom-based writing tutoring is a distinct form of writing support, a hybrid instructional method that engages multiple voices and texts within the college classroom. Tutors work on location in the thick of writing instruction and writing activity. On Location is the first volume to discuss this emerging practice in a methodical way. The essays in this collection integrate theory and practice to highlight the alliances and connections on-location tutoring offers while suggesting strategies for resolving its conflicts. Contributors examine classroom-based tutoring programs located in composition courses as well as in writing intensive courses across the disciplines.

Although the question of prioritizing either the level of content or that of form has often been controversial, most contributions of this volume treat them as internally connected. They undertake analyses of motifs, metaphors, and topoi, and thereby not only prove the relevance of rhetorical and thematic study, but also contribute to flourishing fields such as literary multilingualism, literature and emotions, and ecocriticism.

Current volume examines Finnish-Russian literary contacts that have not been thoroughly studied previously – the translation and reception history of Russian literature in Finland, and Finnish literature in Russia from 1800 until 1930. Personal contacts have influenced the decisions of what to translate and by whom more than the evident European context of Russian literature. In Finland, the relationship with Russia and attitudes to its literature have always been a political issue. Hostile relations have meant a remarkable decrease in translations, but maintained active discussion of Russian culture. During more friendly times, the inquisitive interest has increased and led to more intensive translation activities. However, since the early days of Finnish literature, only few intellectuals have known Russian well enough to translate literature into Swedish or Finnish. Consequently, translating has been highly dependent on individual mediators, often with a transnational identity.

Henri Focillon (1881-1943) est l’un des plus grands historiens de l’art français. Bien que son œuvre et son engagement politique aient marqué l’histoire culturelle du xxe siècle, aucune monographie ne lui avait jusqu’ici été consacrée. En replaçant sa vie et son œuvre dans le contexte intellectuel de l’entre-deux-guerres, le présent ouvrage vient combler une lacune importante de l’historiographie française. S’appuyant sur de nouvelles sources documentaires, largement méconnues et pour partie inédites, Annamaria Ducci propose une relecture critique de l’ensemble des écrits de Focillon. Son ouvrage le plus célèbre, Vie des formes (1934), tout comme ses travaux sur l’art du Moyen Âge occidental, sur la gravure et la peinture moderne, ou encore sur le bouddhisme et l’art japonais, permettent de mesurer l’étendue des renvois culturels impliquant aussi bien le formalisme viennois, la science de l’art allemande, ou encore la critique d’art parisienne « fin de siècle », pour finalement aboutir à cette « phénoménologie de l’art » qui caractérise en propre la démarche d’Henri Focillon. Professeur d'histoire de l'art à l'Accademia di Belle Arti de Carrare, Annamaria Ducci est actuellement une des meilleures spécialistes de l’œuvre de Focillon, à qui elle a consacré de nombreuses études. Depuis 2002, elle collabore régulièrement avec l’Institut national d’histoire de l’art (INHA). Elle a également traduit et dirigé l’édition italienne de l’Éloge de la main (Elogio della mano, Castelvecchi, 2014).

Der transnationale, wechselseitige Austausch zu diesem Kulturphänomen wurde in der bisherigen Forschung jedoch kaum berücksichtigt. Yvonne René Gavallér untersucht erstmals am Beispiel Deutschlands und Schwedens Transferprozesse im Verständnis und Umgang mit der Diagnose und nimmt dabei sowohl die Fachebene als auch den öffentlichen Diskurs in den Blick.

Reúne resultados de pesquisas desenvolvidas no âmbito do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação (PPGE) da Faculdade de Filosofia e Ciências (FFC), UNESP, Campus de Marília, que abordam análises sobre o funcionamento e as atividades desenvolvidas pelos cursinhos pré-vestibulares populares presentes em Universidades públicas no estado de São Paulo, buscando informações referentes ao número de vagas disponibilizadas, ao número de professores (discentes) e docentes participantes, ao número de bolsas de estudos e identificação de parcerias realizadas entre os cursinhos e diferentes entidades públicas e/ou privadas. Como resultado, foi possível identificar a origem e atuação de 64 núcleos de cursinhos pré-vestibulares que funcionam por iniciativas de discentes, docentes e técnicos administrativos de diferentes universidades públicas do estado de São Paulo. São quase 10 mil vagas, em sua maioria, destinadas à uma população socioeconomicamente desfavorecida que busca ingressar no Ensino Superior. São trajetórias e ações sociais que merecem ser reconhecidas e lembradas.

n this thesis, we study the dynamics of an elastic body whose shape and position evolve due to the gravitational forces exerted by a point-like planet whose position is fixed in the space. The first result of the thesis is that, if any internal deformation of the body dissipates some energy, then the dynamics of the system has only three possible final behaviors: (i) the satellite is expelled to infiniy; (ii) the satellite falls on the planet; (iii) the satellite is captured in synchronous resonance. By item (iii) we mean that the shape of the body reaches a final configuration that a principal axis of inertia is directed towards the attracting planet and that the center of mass of satellite moves on a circle of constant radius.

Un an après les terribles tremblements de terre d’août et novembre 1999, le besoin s’est fait sentir de dresser un nouveau bilan, avec un peu de recul. En effet, le problème des tremblements de terre n’est pas résolu, la question, multiforme, reste entière : les plaies les plus directes et visibles sont loin d’être vraiment pansées et les symptômes des traumatismes endurés restent omniprésents. En d’autres termes, lapsychose sismique sévit toujours, tantôt latente, tantôt pleinement perceptible. Il suffit d’une petite secousse, et la Turquie en connaît en permanence (voir chronologie en annexe), pour réveiller et réactiver cette psychose. Par ailleurs, des dizaines de milliers de personnes continuent de vivre en tentes ou en préfabriqués, à la merci des intempéries et dans une grande précarité. En outre, les séismes continuent à menacer le pays (sur plus de 90 % de sa superficie, mais à des degrés divers) et les débats et mises en cause suscités par les « premiers » séismes continuent d’agiter la Turquie. Il nous paraît donc intéressant de nous demander si les leçons tant attendues ont été tirées et si la Turquie a vraiment mûri dans l’appréhension de cette menace. Enfin, il se peut que le parti pris résolument factuel de ce dossier surprenne ; il résulte simplement d’un impératif informatif, face à des événements mal connus et face à une absence de sources fiables synthétiques.

The volume, dedicated to the 44th International Conference of the Italian Union for Drawing, investigates the theme of ‘Transitions’, which particularly effectively represents our time and the current condition of the discipline of Drawing. The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.
