Comparative studies on vocational education and training (VET) structures employ various theoretical approaches, leading to numerous classifications of national VET systems over time. However, these classifications often oversimplify the complexity of local labour and training ecosystems. This book summarises the research findings of a joint project between researchers from Osnabrück University, Germany, and the University of Bergamo, Italy, funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The project compared VET structures in European regions, specifically Lower Saxony (Germany) and Lombardy (Italy). In this context, 'region' refers to sub-national geographical divisions coinciding with political-administrative boundaries. The project paid particular attention to the apprenticeship systems in both regions. This regional focus approvided valuable insights into regional specificities of VET structures that may have remained hidden when comparing national systems.

Since Pierre Bourdieu, we have known that the body forms incorporated cultural and social capital. It is a commodity and means of production, a sign of belonging to a social class, a place where sex, gender and power relations are negotiated or a pretext for social exclusions and racism. The body is the object of punishments, sanctions and social control, a support for affects, obsessions and illnesses as well as a site of rebellion and resistance. The 19th century novels analyzed in the contributions to this volume tell all this. From the perspective of current body studies, we propose a new reading of the great stories from Balzac to Zola, via Mirbeau, Maupassant, Louise Michel, Georges Sand, Rachilde, Eugène Sue and Huysmans to demonstrate, through their texts, how the Images of the body and the policies of capital are part of the imagination and memory of 19th century French society.

The here collected contributions relating to the 46th International Conference of the Representation Disciplines Teachers, organized jointly by Sapienza University of Rome, Roma Tre University, and San Raffaele Roma University, aim to offer the scientific community a reflection on the theoretical and methodological aspects related to the concept of èkphrasis, a term that, in the field of representation, concerns descriptive, analogical, and digital activities that generate new knowledge in several areas of application. The Conference aims to place at the center of the discussion an interpretation of the concept of research that, without neglecting an idea of study, protection, and enhancement of environmental and cultural heritage, focuses on the needs of contemporary society and its possible developments, making use of innovative theoretical, methodological, and operational activities, including those characterized by an interdisciplinary approach. According to this interpretation, research can also be seen as a foreshadowing of the definition and testing of experimental proposals aimed at exploring new areas of investigation: this opens up imaginative and utopian perspectives in the relationship between the sciences, the arts, and the disciplines that contribute to common goals, through the experimentation of methods, techniques, and languages for conceiving, prefiguring, designing, and representing.

This contribution aims to present the initial findings of an evaluative research study conducted as part of a network project for the promotion of bio-psycho-social well-being in later life, titled “Corpo e Salute: mi muovo, mangio bene, vivo meglio”. The project targets individuals over the age of 65 who are at risk of social isolation and reside in a neighborhood of the city of Bologna. The results from the first phase of the research allow for an exploration of the experiences and perceptions of the participants in this educational path – all women over the age of 70. The reflections gathered shed light, from a situated perspective, on the educational effectiveness of the practices implemented and the pedagogical value of contexts capable of welcoming, supporting, and regenerating the existential journeys of older adults. The aim is to contribute to the pedagogical debate on education in later life, demonstrating how local experiences can offer concrete and transformative responses to the challenges posed by an ageing population.

The rapid developments of new communication technologies have facilitated the popularization of digital games, which has translated into an exponential growth of the game industry in the last decades. The ubiquitous presence of digital games has resulted in an expansion of the applications of these games from mere entertainment purposes to a great variety of serious purposes. In this edited volume, we narrow the scope of attention by focusing on what game theorist Ian Bogost has called "persuasive games", that is, gaming practices that combine the dissemination of information with attempts to engage players in particular attitudes and behaviors. This volume offers a multifaceted reflection on persuasive gaming, that is, on the process of these particular games being played by players. The purpose is to better understand when and how digital games can be used for persuasion, by further exploring persuasive games and some other kinds of persuasive playful interaction as well. The book critically integrates what has been accomplished in separate research traditions to offer a multidisciplinary approach to understanding persuasive gaming that is closely linked to developments in the industry by including the exploration of relevant case studies.

This collection presents the state of the art on English-medium instruction (EMI) / Integrating content and language (ICL) in Italian higher education, drawing attention to different critical aspects of the teaching/learning experience and highlighting the perspectives of various educational stakeholders regarding the effectiveness of tertiary study in a foreign language. The chapters draw on a range of methodologies, from multimodal participant observation, to action research, to video-stimulated recall (VSR), to questionnaires and interviews, in examining language policies and practices across various educational settings. Overall, the volume suggests that internationalisation succeeds best when the form of lessons (language) and the content of lessons (disciplinary concepts) are constructively aligned in curriculum planning and delivery. This integration process requires the strategic support of educators to guarantee the quality of learning in multilingual education.;

The book is an interdisciplinary study on P ythian Three, Nemean Three and Nemean Five , three Pindaric epinicians, which share a special use of the word τέκτων, ‘fashioner’. In these victory odes, the term τέκτων refers to creators of immaterial objects and occurs close to the first and/or the final words of the poems, in connection with key themes, namely: health, poetry, choral performance, movement as opposed to stasis. The study shows that structures in which Pindaric metaphors are found have parallels in Indo-European languages of ancient attestation: Old Indic and Avestan. In doing so, the book casts new light on Pindar’s language and the stylistic features of his odes, which are in a relation of historical continuity with phraseological and structural characteristics of religious hymns of Ancient India and Iran. The study reveals that * tetƙ- metaphors and “* tetƙ- compositions”, i.e. metaphors and ring-compositions built by means of repetitions of “* tetƙ- words” (Vedic takṣ , Avestan taš , and Greek τέκτων), have a deep meta-thematic relevance in three linguistically related traditions and are an inherited phraseological stylistic feature common to Ancient Greek and Indo-Iranian poetic creations.
