The objective of the Enhancing Community Resilience Project is to ​improve access to basic services and food security of select communities in the Republic of the Sudan. The Third Additional Financing (AF3) will expand the support provided by WFP to farmer cooperatives in existing target locations, including 5,000 additional farming households, during the 2026 summer planting season. Originally, supporting 2026 summer inputs was not part of the planning for component 2 activities under WFP implementation; instead, WFP was planning to progressively phase out support after the winter season 2025-2026 to prepare for the grant’s closing on September 30, 2026. The pipeline project Khairat, on track for approval by the end of September 2026, is designed to support agriculture sector activities and broader food security efforts. However, it will not be effective in time to ensure a seamless transition from Thabat and support the upcoming summer season. The proposed AF3 is critical to consolidate Thabat achievements, support the upcoming production of sorghum, a crop highly relevant for food security, and ensure a seamless complementarity between Thabat and Khairat.
