L’utilisation de HAL par les laboratoires de recherche : une étude quantitative
Overview & Synopsis
The article presents the results of a study carried out as part of the HAL/LO project, on a sample of 1 246 laboratories (=1 035 612 deposits) affiliated to the ten major research universities and members of the Udice association. The aim is to provide a more detailed description of practices on HAL. 99 % of laboratories are present on HAL, with a “long tail” distribution. 52 % of publications are articles, 23 % communications. The average degree of openness is 32 % (deposits with documents). 50 % of laboratories have created a collection on HAL. The discussion focused on three aspects: the role of laboratories in relation to HAL, with a more detailed description of some typical situations; the impact of disciplines in relation to the number of deposits, the creation of a collection, the deposit of certain types of documents and the self-archiving of full-text documents; the evolution of the HAL system towards a tool for monitoring scientific production, which raises several questions, notably concerning the origin and quality of metadata.
