On questions of existence in shell theory
Overview & Synopsis
We consider Koiter's model of the shell problem, for which one basic problem is of course to prove the existence of a solution. This is done in a forthcoming paper of M. Bernadou and the author. Since the proof in the generai case is highly technical and lengthy, it is the purpose of this paper to give a simpiified proof in the case of the arch problem, which is a good «model problem» for the shell problem.
