HIGH TEMPERATURE DEFORMATION OF MgO.1.8Al2O3 SPINEL SINGLE CRYSTALS OF AXIAL ORIENTATION
Overview & Synopsis
specimens of MgO.1.8Al2O3 spinel have been deformed at constant strain rate in the temperature range 1420-1630°C. For a compression axis the Schmid factor of {110} slip systems is zero and specimen deformation was expected to occur by dislocation glide in {111}planes. In fact our results are consistent with a deformation process due in main part rather to dislocation climb than to dislocation glide ; they are then compared to those obtained in the case of nearly equimolar spinel for which deformation results from dislocation climb.
