TAGE: an engineering cookbook
Overview & Synopsis
CBP2016 TAGE-SC-L is generally considered as the state-of-the-art of branch predictors that have been been proposed in the academic world. This proposition suffers from several drawbacks, that forbids its direct implementation in hardware. However TAGE has been implemented by industry in many processor cores. This report presents a set of tradeoffs that could be used in an effective hardware implementation of TAGE-SC. This proposed implementation would still achieve state-of-the-art branch prediction accuracy.
