Overview & Synopsis

It is known that pregnancy causes changes that can create varying degrees of discomfort. However, drug treatments during pregnancy are limited due to teratogenic, fetotoxic and neonatal effects. Acupuncture is used in obstetrics as a complementary medicine to improve the supply of care. Its use is interesting because its indications are numerous and include the inconveniences of pregnancy and some of its complications. Acupuncture has been offered at the Nancy maternity for more than 20 years but has not been the subject of any study. Therefore: What is the satisfaction of pregnant women in acupuncture consultation at the Nancy maternity hospital? A qualitative and cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 29 patients during a phone interview 6 to 8 weeks after the end of pregnancy, using a satisfaction questionnaire. The results show an overall satisfaction of the subjects, from the scheduling of appointments to the effects of acupuncture, including satisfaction with the care provided by the midwife. Our patients all seem to adhere to this therapy despite a variation in the effects felt. Our study also highlighted a lack of information and knowledge of patients on the indications of acupuncture and the possibility of treatment throughout pregnancy, which does not improve their health literacy.
