Overview & Synopsis
The celebration of Saturnalia is the anchoring of technical and thematic decisions in Martial’s books. Our reading proposal unfolds some aspects of the convivial landscape in Martial’s epigrams, and especially the meanings suggested by saturnalian scenario regarding the reception of poetry. From our point of view, the shared wine and the festive atmosphere are not only in accordance with the poetic genre and the comic tone, but also these circumstances renew the possibilities of the reader.
