Mapping of D'Alembert's correspondence
Overview & Synopsis
To publish rigorously all D'Alembert (1717 - 1783), philosopher, scientist, correspondent of Euler, Lagrange, but also of Voltaire and Frederic II, co-publisher of the Encyclopedia, polemist, perpetual secretary of the French Academy, such is the enterprise of the D'Alembert Group since several years (supported by the Academy of Sciences). With the digital tool, he intends to focus his critical reflection on and via visualizations, in particular cartographic visualizations and, in this way, to federate collaborations around his project. The "D'Alembert en cartes" project is the result of a collaboration between the ENS (CAPHÉS-UMS 3610), the Institut Mathématique de Jussieu (IMJ-PRG, UMR 7586) and the labex TranferS, which pool their skills for the digital enhancement of the corpus of correspondence of D'Alembert, a scientist and encyclopedist of the Enlightenment. This project aims not only to make the letter network more readable, but also, in the long term, to follow a theme, a controversy, or the birth and dissemination of a concept.
