Functional Theory
Overview & Synopsis
The Functional Theory of Political Campaign Discourse has been developed to understand key elements of election messages. This theory has been tested in a variety of messages: by candidates and other sources, in messages from different levels of office, in the United States and other countries, and in news coverage of election messages. This essay discusses the assumptions of this theory, advantages of this approach, and predictions made in the theory.
