Overview & Synopsis

This paper explores the use of Action Research as a dynamic and cyclical methodology for future curriculum development, emphasizing teacher-led reflection and problem-solving to improve educational practices. Beginning with the identification of challenges faced by practitioners within their local contexts, the study involves planning interventions, implementing them in classrooms, observing outcomes, and collaboratively analyzing results with educators and colleagues. This iterative process fosters continuous improvement and bridges the gap between theory and practice. The research highlights the interconnectedness of eco-socio-economic planning and educational administration, advocating for curriculum development that aligns legal policies, strategic planning, and effective administration. It underscores the importance of collaboration between resource managers and the scientific community to adapt curricula to evolving environmental and societal needs. Recognizing that no single approach fits all contexts, the paper stresses tailoring curriculum development to stakeholder objectives and decision-making environments. Drawing on established models of action research, the paper proposes a six-stage cyclical framework: (a) identifying focus areas, (b) conducting needs analysis, (c) developing action plans, (d) implementing interventions, (e) evaluating outcomes, and (f) reflecting on the process. This model views curriculum development as a practice-based, problem-solving, continuous, and context-dependent endeavor. By empowering teachers as both producers and users of educational knowledge, action research promotes ownership, relevance, and sustainability in curriculum reform. The approach encourages inclusive practices and integration of ICT to address local realities, particularly in regions like Madhesh Province. Ultimately, this methodology supports the co-creation of curricula that are responsive, equitable, and resilient, fostering meaningful educational transformation. Keywords: curriculum, development, action research, inclusive education, ICT, Madhesh Province
