Application of the homogenization method to composite materials with periodic structure
Overview & Synopsis
A boundary value problem in an heterogenous medium is very difficult, and even impossible, to solve if the number of heterogeneities is very large. The homogenization consists to replace the heterogeneous medium by an "equivalent" homogeneous one. in the particular case of a periodical distribution of heterogeneities, results on the mathematical aspects of the homogenization have been obtained recently. An application to the problem of torsion for a cylindrical fiber-reinforced bar is presented here. The homogenized solutions are compared with the real solutions for an increasing number of fibers.
