The volume Un incontro lusofono plurale di lingue, letterature, storie, culture (A plural Lusophone encounter of languages, literatures, stories, cultures) aims at highlighting one of the specificities of the Lusophone culture: the linguistic-literary pluralism that continues to distinguish Portuguese culture, from Brazil, to Africa and Asia, since the time of maritime discoveries. The collected essays mark, in this regard, a twofold path: they are intercultural, since they alternate the literary and linguistic aspects from the humanistic to the contemporary era, but they also are intergeneris as they alternate not only historiography and treatises with poetry and narrative - with inter-artistic incursions across literature, painting and photography - but also linguistic aspects, namely grammatical, and examples of rewritings and translational questions, in a sort of further Lusophone dialogue between genres and topoi.

This edited volume offers a global overview of the immediate impacts the COVID pandemic had on local and national film, television, streaming, and social media industries—examining in compelling detail how these industries managed the crisis. With accounts from the frontlines, Media Industries in Crisis provides readers with a stakeholder framework, management lessons, and urgent commentaries to unpack the nature of crisis management and communications. The authors show how these industries have not only survived, but often thrive amidst a backdrop of critical national and regional emergencies, wars, financial meltdowns, and climate disasters. This international collection—featuring case studies from 16 countries—examines how media industries managed all of these crises, successfully rebranding themselves as “essential” while making power plays in politics, economics, and culture. The chapters reveal key lessons for the meltdowns, tectonic shifts, and struggles ahead. This collection will be of interest to media and communication students, particularly those focused on media industries, crisis communications, and management, as well as to practitioners working in media industries.

This project contributes to our understanding of rural Midwesterners and farm newspapers at the turn of the century. While cultural historians have mainly focused on readers in town and cities, it examines Midwestern farmers. It also contributes to the "new rural history" by exploring the ideas of Hal Barron and others that country people selectively adapted the advice given to them by reformers. Finally, it furthers our understanding of American farm newspapers themselves and offers suggestions on how to use them as sources.

Feeling Blue is the first book-length history of colour in modern hospitals. It examines colour in relation to six key themes – hygiene, emotion, humanisation, homeliness, play, and consumerism – which are tied together by the idea of the ‘modern’ hospital. The book does not simply describe changes to the appearance of hospitals over time, but instead thinks expansively about the role of colour in shaping how hospitals felt. It uses colour to understand the layered meanings of modernity in twentieth-century Britain, and its relationship to the ‘mundane’ or everyday life of hospitals.

Amandus Ivanschiz (in Slovenian literature “Ivančič”), due to his surname thought to be of South-Slave origin, belongs to a group of today little known 18th-century composers, but was in his own time all over Central Europe well known and largely copied monastic composer. However, only a few of his compositions are available to modern performers. Volume 1 of the Monumenta artis musicae Sloveniae series comprises five trio sonatas which are accompanied by an introductory presentation of the composer and his works and Revision Report by Damilo Pokorn (1983).The digitized version of the edition (2020) includes a New Introduction as well as Corrigenda by Maciej Jochymczyk bringing to the reader’s attention new information on father Amandus and corrigenda of the earlier edition.

The contribution focuses through some philosophical examples in context – acroamatics, social philosophy, symbolic forms, imaginary, ‘good utopia’ – on Sergio Caruso’s unique style and mood of thinking. Both enabled him to balance a terrific wideness of interests, knowledges and sounding/enciclopedic competences about heavy matters with a unique hint of hirony, curiosity and levity. The convergence in all of his contributions of conceptual clarity, rigour and accuracy with intellectual and pragmatic committment to the human affairs and sorrows are the key elements of Caruso’s openess to the unforeseen in the social and political domains.

The symbols used in the notation of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century music are tantalizingly similar to those of modern notation, but their meanings can be very different. The right musical pronunciation is avidly sought by today's scholars and performers and by an increasingly demanding modern audience. Transcribing earlier notation into our modern system, in which time signatures and bar lines indicate regular accents and dynamic stress, distorts music that may have been conceived quite differently. Using theoretical treatises and instruction manuals of the period, George Houle provides a practical guide to the performance of Baroque and early Classic-period music, including discussions of notes inegales, keyboard fingerings, woodwind tonguings, and string bowings. Creating a persuasive beat, he advises, requires a paradoxical mixture of precision and flexibility that avoids both mechanical regularity and unpredictable caprice. These principles are demonstrated on an unusual cassette tape, available separately. Realized by means of a computer program, it reconstructs fifteen examples of music from the late eighteenth century, reproducing not only the melodies but the metrical articulations of these pieces. When performed according to the conventions of its own time, seventeenth- and eighteenth-century music has a wonderful lilt and grace and a compelling vitality.
