What do stories in games have in common with political narratives? This book identifies narrative strategies as mechanisms for meaning and manipulation in games and real life. It shows that the narrative mechanics so clearly identifiable in games are increasingly used (and abused) in politics and social life. They have »many faces«, displays and interfaces. They occur as texts, recipes, stories, dramas in three acts, movies, videos, tweets, journeys of heroes, but also as rewarding stories in games and as narratives in society - such as a career from rags to riches, the concept of modernity or market economy. Below their surface, however, narrative mechanics are a particular type of motivational design - of game mechanics.

Malgré le succès persistant du latin et du grec au niveau collège, où le quart des élèves étudiaient l’une de ces deux langues à la rentrée 2010, l’enseignement des langues anciennes a considérablement décliné au niveau du lycée et de l’université. Il a décliné du point de vue du nombre des étudiants, mais aussi de leurs compétences en langue. Répondant à l’ouvrage de Heinz Wismann et de Pierre Judet de la Combe, L’Avenir des langues, paru en 2004, Olivier Rimbault explique comment l’esprit du « collège unique » et du « Nouveau Lycée », mais surtout les méthodes didactiques en vigueur entraînent ces résultats décevants et leurs conséquences. S’appuyant sur les données de la psychologie et les méthodologies de l’imaginaire, l’auteur montre les limites épistémologiques de ces méthodes. À l’enseignement de langues mortes, il propose de substituer un enseignement de langues tout à la fois mortes, anciennes, vivaces et même vivantes. Un recueil de poésies néolatines personnelles vient illustrer sa démonstration.

The word “anesthesia” is commonly associated with surgery in an operating room setting. This book hopes to take the reader on a journey that will highlight the myriad roles that anesthesiologists currently play, and what roles beyond the operating room are on the horizon. In this book, we hope to portray modern anesthesiology as a truly unifying force within the fabric of the contemporary healthcare environment.

Wie Prüfungen und Prüfungsszenarien an Hochschulen innovativ und digital gestaltet werden können, steht im Fokus dieses Sammelbandes. Die Beiträge stellen Ergebnisse des Projekts "Prüfung hoch III Drei. Didaktik - Technik - Vernetzung" (gefördert durch den Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft) vor. Im Rahmen des Verbundvorhabens der FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, der RWTH Aachen und des Karlsruher Instituts für Technologie (KIT) wurden Maßnahmen zur Digitalisierung von Prüfungen an Hochschulen in ganz Deutschland unterstützt. Die Beiträge des Bandes stellen unterschiedliche Ansätze, Ideen und Konzepte für digitale Prüfungsszenarien vor und fokussieren dabei jeweils eines der Handlungsfelder Didaktik, Technik oder Vernetzung. Neben der Bestandsaufnahme sowie dem hochschulübergreifenden Erfahrungsaustausch stehen die Entwicklung didaktischer Szenarien, die Erprobung und Entwicklung innovativer Technologien und Ansätze der Vernetzung im Vordergrund. An der Schnittstelle von Forschung zu digitalen Prüfungsszenarien und deren praktischer Umsetzung richtet sich der Band an Lehrende und Mitarbeitende des lehrstützenden Bereichs an Hochschulen.

L'apprentissage instrumental est un loisir culturel qui touche différemment les filles et les garçons, tant d'un point de vue quantitatif que qualitatif : les filles sont plus nombreuses et se rencontrent majoritairement en classes de piano et de cordes, alors que les garçons se retrouvent davantage aux instruments à vent et aux percussions. Par la suite, les deux sexes divergent du point de vue des formations d'orchestre fréquentées, des activités musicales pratiquées en dehors des cours, ainsi que des débouchés professionnels envisagés puis réellement investis. Mais comment devient-on la jeune fille modèle au piano ou l'adolescent viril à la batterie, et quel est l'impact de telles pratiques dans l'assimilation des normes de genre au sein des sociétés industrialisées contemporaines ? Existe-t-il des transgressions possibles, sous quelles formes et avec quelles conséquences pour l'apprentissage des rôles et des rapports sociaux de sexes ? Tiré d'une thèse de doctorat en anthropologie dirigée par Agnès Fine (EHESS), cet ouvrage analyse de façon ethnographique les parcours et les pratiques d'une trentaine d'apprentis musiciens des deux sexes, âgés entre 7 et 21 ans, dans deux établissements publics d'enseignement musical de profils sociologiques différents, ainsi qu'au sein de leurs formations et de leurs représentations amateurs et semi-professionnels.

The here collected contributions relating to the 46th International Conference of the Representation Disciplines Teachers, organized jointly by Sapienza University of Rome, Roma Tre University, and San Raffaele Roma University, aim to offer the scientific community a reflection on the theoretical and methodological aspects related to the concept of èkphrasis, a term that, in the field of representation, concerns descriptive, analogical, and digital activities that generate new knowledge in several areas of application. The Conference aims to place at the center of the discussion an interpretation of the concept of research that, without neglecting an idea of study, protection, and enhancement of environmental and cultural heritage, focuses on the needs of contemporary society and its possible developments, making use of innovative theoretical, methodological, and operational activities, including those characterized by an interdisciplinary approach. According to this interpretation, research can also be seen as a foreshadowing of the definition and testing of experimental proposals aimed at exploring new areas of investigation: this opens up imaginative and utopian perspectives in the relationship between the sciences, the arts, and the disciplines that contribute to common goals, through the experimentation of methods, techniques, and languages for conceiving, prefiguring, designing, and representing.

Lern- und Bildungsprozesse von Menschen mit Alzheimerdemenz sind bisher aus einer erziehungswissenschaftlichen Perspektive nicht empirisch untersucht. Finden Lern- und Bildungsprozesse unter den Bedingungen einer beginnenden Alzheimerdemenz statt und, wenn ja, wie gestalten sich diese? Mithilfe der biographischen Erzählanalyse zeichnet Nora Berner Erleidens-, Lern- und Bildungsprozesse von Menschen mit Alzheimerdemenz empirisch nach, um das Ineinandergreifen von Krankheit und Lebensführung zu verstehen. Es zeigen sich Bedeutungsverschiebungen beim Lern-Arrangement-Prozess mit der Krankheit, Bemühungen um die Aufrechterhaltung von Bildung und der Umgang mit schwindenden Fähigkeiten.

This reprint focuses on data-driven software solutions and their impact on research and development at the academic, industry, business, and government levels to exploit the hidden knowledge and big data that can be offered to cities and citizens in the future. Data-driven software solutions are different from “traditional” software development projects, as the focus of the main development core is on managing the data (e.g., data store and data quality) and designing behavioral models with the aid of artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques. To this end, new life cycles, algorithms, methods, processes, and tools are required. The work Education and the pandemic: impacts and challenges, organized by Luciana Aparecida de Araújo and Ana Paula Cordeiro, has, among many, one feature that cannot be ignored. It was woven in times of the pandemic, caused by the Sars-Cov-2 virus. Make that your motto and face the challenge of thinking, amid the turmoil caused by this pandemic that seems to have no end. It presents important reflections relating, as the title itself informs us, education to the pandemic which is, undeniably, one of the biggest and most overwhelming that we have recorded in our history. The hypothesis that seems irrefutable is that education has been deeply upset in these times, which has already been the target of so many forms of exclusion, impoverishment by public policies, which under the guise of seeking to make it more accessible and fair for all os, since kindergarten, bends in front of the business community that sucks her in the guts.

Title in English: Integration of 3D printing technology into teaching in primary and secondary schools: Verified Methodology With the development of 3D printing technology in recent years, there has been a significant decrease in the price of printers and thus an increase in the availability of this technology. This technological area opens up new possibilities in a wide range of fields from industry, medicine, construction and architecture to the level of everyday home use. We also see a huge didactic potential in 3D technology, which is currently not being used. The implementation of 3D technologies in teaching at primary and secondary schools enables the creation of completely new types of teaching aids and increases the availability of teaching models for pupils and students. Students can work with teaching models in class and, with methodological supports, they also actively participate in their creation.

Predlog novega pravopisnega pravila, ki na spletu še ni objavljen, spremlja različno število gradivskih ponazoritev – odvisno od tipa problemskega sklopa. Vsak opis problemskega sklopa ali pravopisne kategorije predstavlja vez med starim in novim pravopisnim predpisom, torej podatke o morebitnih spremembah, navezavo na pravopisno pravilo, opis geslovnika in podobno.

Ranging over the broad spectrum of contemporary literary and film theory, Breaking the Frame explores the different approaches to cinematic art that are offered by cognitive psychology, feminist theory, aesthetics, and psychoanalysis. In this study Inez Hedges looks closely at films that challenge accepted norms in both form and content. The films discussed here, including Zazie, La Nuit de Varennes, and E.T., break out of conventional frames, upsetting our expectations about how films should look (the film frame) as well as how experience is usually organized by cine- matic works of art (the psychological or cognitive frame). Hedges focuses on two primary areas: the way that the structure of film texts guides the interpretations of the spectator (hermeneutics) and the way that films reflect social models (representation). Within the hermeneutic approach, the author relates the unconventional use of film language in cinematic works of the 1960s and 1970s not only to the recent novels of Beckett and Queneau and to the French nouveau roman but also to one of the founding texts of Western literature, the Oedipus Rex of Sophocles. The discussion of representation exam- ines the social ascendancy of cinematic narrative in modern times in the light of the philosophical insights of Michel Foucault and Harold Bloom. Finally, contemporary feminist and psychoanalytic theories are brought to bear on cinematic representations of gender. Breaking the Frame will be of interest not only to scholars and students of film and literature but also to today's "filmliterate" public who enjoy exploring the theoretical and philosophical implications of cinematic works.

The 43rd UID conference, held in Genova, takes up the theme of ‘Dialogues’ as practice and debate on many fundamental topics in our social life, especially in these complex and not yet resolved times. The city of Genova offers the opportunity to ponder on the value of comparison and on the possibilities for the community, naturally focused on the aspects that concern us, as professors, researchers, disseminators of knowledge, or on all the possibile meanings of the discipline of representation and its dialogue with ‘others’, which we have broadly catalogued in three macro areas: History, Semiotics, Science / Technology. Therefore, “dialogue” as a profitable exchange based on a common language, without which it is impossible to comprehend and understand one another; and the graphic sign that connotes the conference is the precise transcription of this concept: the title ‘translated’ into signs, derived from the visual alphabet designed for the visual identity of the UID since 2017. There are many topics which refer to three macro sessions: - Witnessing (signs and history) - Communicating (signs and semiotics) - Experimenting (signs and sciences) Thanks to the different points of view, an exceptional resource of our disciplinary area, we want to try to outline the prevailing theoretical-operational synergies, the collaborative lines of an instrumental nature, the recent updates of the repertoires of images that attest and nourish the relations among representation, history, semiotics, sciences.
