The abundance, uniqueness and diversity of plant-based species in Côte d’Ivoire has enabled the Ivorian people to amass a large and varied amount of knowledge related to plant-derived substances, including notably with regard to medical, cosmetic, aromatic and nutritional use. However, for a number of decades now Ivorian biodiversity has seen a steady degradation, with its forest canopy increasingly under threat. This has resulted in the sustainable exploitation of Ivorian natural resources, and such benefits as may be derived from them by the Ivorian people, being compromised. It is within this context that the Ivorian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MESRS) entrusted to IRD the task of undertaking a joint scientific assessment of the potential inherent in natural plant-based substances in Côte d’Ivoire. In response, IRD assembled for this purpose a multidisciplinary committee of experts in pharmacognosy, phytochemistry, nutrition, microbiology and environmental economics, as well as anthropologists and specialists in the field of African pharmacological plants. The assessment deals with non-wood-based plants and products derived from them, the aim being to produce an up-to-date inventory of the subject matter and to identify strategies for their sustainable exploitation. Based on data gathered, the expert committee has put forward 17 recommendations aimed at producing a clear elucidation of the government’s environmental policies and preserving biodiversity, all while ensuring public health and economic development.

Grote gevoelens waren lange tijd taboe in de literatuurstudie. Ze werden immers geassocieerd met hol pathos, geforceerde retoriek en zelfs met melodrama en sentimentaliteit. Deze bundel essays breekt een lans voor een hernieuwde studie vanhevige gevoelens in de literatuur door ze te benaderen vanuit een vergelijkend perspectief en aan de hand van nieuwe methodes, zoals de history of emotions, de affecttheorie en de narratologie. Tegelijk werpen deze teksten een kritisch licht op de gevoelscultus die onze romantische literatuuropvatting domineert, en op de rol van hevige emoties hierin. Technologische vernieuwingen en economisering maken de allerindividueelste gevoelens en sentimenten immers steeds toegankelijker. Daarom is zowel binnen de historische literatuurstudie als de studie van actuele literatuur en performance het gevoel een opvallend zwaartepunt van kritisch en interdisciplinair onderzoek geworden. Grote gevoelens in de literatuur is de eerste wetenschappelijke studie in het Nederlandse taalgebied die de emotional turn binnen de cultuurwetenschappen behandelt vanuit het oogpunt van historische én moderne literatuurwetenschap.

Dans le prolongement de l’ouvrage Les paysans peuvent-ils nourrir le tiers-monde? (Publications de la Sorbonne, 1995), les auteurs centrent ici l’analyse sur les implications pour les petits producteurs familiaux ou paysans des politiques de libéralisation économique mises en œuvre à l’échelle mondiale depuis le début des années 1980. La première partie étudie les modalités de passage d’une régulation de l’agriculture dominée par les interventions de l’Etat à une régulation centrée sur le marché. Dans la deuxième partie sont examinées les conséquences de cette mutation pour les producteurs ruraux, c’est-à-dire les relations entre les forces de décomposition ou de différenciation des paysanneries et leurs dynamiques de résistance ou d’adaptation. La troisième partie s’intéresse plus particulièrement aux processus d’organisation des paysans et à leurs actions collectives. Par-delà la très grande diversité des situations en Afrique, en Amérique latine, en Asie et en Europe, les analyses comparatives font ressortir les capacités d’innovation économique, sociale et politique des sociétés paysannes, mais aussi l’urgence d’un projet de développement qui aille au-delà de leur subordination à l’Etat ou de leur soumission au marché.

Le présent ouvrage évoque l’intérêt considérable éprouvé par Paul Claudel pour la mise en scène du texte théâtral, à l’occasion de sa première pièce jouée et longtemps portée en lui, L’Annonce faite à Marie. Organisée chronologiquement, l’étude montre comment, après avoir douté des vertus scéniques de sa pièce, l’auteur suit d’abord sa création par Lugné-Poe (1912), puis supervise la très originale mise en scène allemande de Hellerau (1913). Mais après ces brillants débuts, toutes les autres expériences scéniques de Claudel à propos de L’Annonce s’avèrent décevantes : soit elles se limitent à des projets qui avortent, soit elles n’aboutissent qu’à des satisfactions illusoires, pour se clore par l’incohérence de la mise en scène de la Comédie-Française en 1955, quelques jours avant la mort du dramaturge. Quoi qu’il en soit, ses engagements dans des spectacles très différents permettent de mettre en évidence de façon concrète et vivante ses idées sur la mise en scène et de faire revivre quelques moments forts de la vie théâtrale dans la première moitié du xxe siècle, à l’occasion de la fortune scénique d’une pièce majeure.

Intellectual integrity and a challenge to rhetoric are the two strategic objectives of those who take up the hazardous path of sociological knowledge. This book does not presume to respond fully, but at least attempts to target these aims. The fruit of many years' teaching and research experience, it adopts a line of interpretation that highlights the point of view of the social agent considered in his close, symbiotic and procedural relation with the society in which he acts; this society is not abstract and generic but explored and construed in the tangible dimension of daily life and social relations. The book is organised with a practically identical layout in all the chapters: in dialogue format it proceeds from the identification of the categories central to the issue addressed through to its empirical application/s, hinging the two together with contributions from the sociological school or writer most relevant to the subject in question.

The aim of this article is to provide a review, albeit not exhaustive, of Italian studies on Dante in the Slavic world. Starting from 1921, and the important essays published in the journal “L’Europa orientale”, the author shows how interest in the reception of Dante in the Slavic world has never decreased among Italian Slavists, as well as specialists on Italian literature in the Slavic countries. This volume is one of many illustrating this rich history. In the second part of the essay, the author discusses the different contributions gathered in this volume, highlighting the connections among different areas of the Slavic world within the field of the reception of Dante’s oeuvre.

La disparition de Jean-Michel Matz en 2020 a laissé un vide au sein de la communauté scientifique des médiévistes, tant dans le champ de l’histoire des pratiques religieuses et de la spiritualité, que dans celui des études angevines. L’hommage qui lui est ici rendu est l’occasion de dresser un bilan des savoirs dans les champs de l’histoire du Moyen Âge qui lui sont chers : l’histoire du clergé séculier et de son milieu, principalement celui des cathédrales, étudiés en réseau ; celle des pratiques de perfection et d’encadrement de la foi, tout particulièrement dans le domaine de la sainteté ; les méthodes de gouvernement, depuis la pastorale jusqu’à la communication politique, qui ouvrent une large réflexion sur l’aire de domination des deux maisons d’Anjou à l’échelle de l’Europe. En outre, ce livre met en avant les méthodes et les pratiques du chercheur et de l’enseignant. Il place la source de l’historien au cœur du propos. Chaque chapitre est l’occasion de mettre en œuvre une source principale en la commentant, en l’éditant ou en la présentant. Il s’agit ainsi de fournir des matériaux à la réflexion de l’historien et au pédagogue, qu’il s’agisse de documentation éditée, d’iconographie, de données archéologiques. La quarantaine d’études proposées par des chercheurs français ou étrangers est articulée autour de cinq thématiques : le clerc en son milieu, de la pastorale à la quête de perfection, gouverner les peuples et les terres, l’Anjou et ses princes, les horizons angevins.

Très peu d’études sont actuellement consacrées aux préfixes et à la préfixation. Cette catégorie d’affixes pose pourtant des problèmes tout-à-fait spécifiques et intéressants, ne serait-ce que parce que ces marqueurs sont généralement issus de prépositions, latines ou grecques ; leur statut et leur rôle est donc a priori différent de celui des suffixes, beaucoup plus étudiés. Pour tenter de cerner cette spécificité, il m’a paru intéressant d’étudier un nombre restreint de préfixes qui pourtant forment un ensemble homogène : les préfixes qui servent, en français contemporain, à construire des mots qui s’interprètent avec un sens d’antériorité temporelle, soit ante-, avant-, pré- et pro-. De leur confrontation ont surgi de nombreuses questions concernant par exemple les contraintes qui pèsent sur les mots pour qu’ils puissent servir de base à chacun des préfixes ; le type d’opérations qui permettent de construire le sens d’antériorité temporelle commun à l’ensemble des mots dérivés ; la spécificité des marqueurs préfixaux comme pré, anté- ou pro- par rapport aux marqueurs qui peuvent à la fois assumer le rôle de préfixe et celui de préposition comme avant(-), etc. Pour résoudre l’ensemble des problèmes soulevés par cette étude, les analyses ont dû être menées dans les trois domaines connexes que sont la morphologie, la sémantique et la syntaxe ; elles s’inspirent, en ce qui concerne la morphologie (problèmes de dérivation, rôles respectifs du préfixe, de la base, du contexte dans la construction du sens du mot dérivé, etc.), des théories de D. Corbin, et en ce qui concerne certains aspects plus spécifiquement sémantiques (structure des axes temporels, opérations de localisation et de repérage, catégories floues et notion de frontière, etc.) de la topologie du CULIOLI.

The uprising which shook France in May 1968 also had a revolutionary effect on the country's most prominent film journal. Under editors Jean-Louis Comolli and Jean Narboni, Cahiers du cinéma embarked on a militant turn that would govern the journal's work over the next five years. With a Marxist orientation inspired by the thinking of Louis Althusser, Jacques Lacan and Roland Barthes, the "red years" of Cahiers du cinéma produced a theoretical outpouring that was formative for the establishment of film studies as an academic discipline in the 1970s, and is still of vital relevance for the contemporary audiovisual landscape. It was also the seminal experience for a generation of critics who have dedicated the following half-century to the task of critically responding to the cinema. The Red Years of Cahiers du Cinéma (1968-1973) gives a historical overview of this period in the journal's history, combining biographical accounts of the critics who were involved with Cahiers in the post-1968 and theoretical explorations of the text they wrote.

This book originates from a question concerning the relationship between politics and care, understood as the ability to relate and listen, take responsibility and be aware of human vulnerability. This field of study aims to rethink the public sphere, including a series of activities which, taken together, not only involve many people (particularly women, even today), but also occupy them for most of their time. However, references to care are not very common in political discourse, with the exception of the utopian tradition. This volume aims to reflect on the ways in which utopia has imagined care work and, conversely, to investigate the disturbing scenarios outlined by dystopias, which present us with situations of negligence, inattention and neglect. The unease that lurks within them evokes fear rather than hope: they are true Scaring Futures. But the binomials utopia/dystopia and care/neglect do not always lend themselves to a univocal interpretation, as there are dystopias that contemplate utopias and utopias that are such only in the eyes of some. But perhaps it is precisely through this ambivalence that utopian-dystopian scenarios of care help us to imagine our future.
