Abstract
This chapter will examine the concepts of cybersecurity and the possibility of cyberwar, and how cyberspace has become a referent object. What cyberspace is will be defined, before exploring the various ways in which this new domain can be exploited. This will include an exploration of such things as cyberespionage, cybercrime, and the need to protect infrastructure. The more contested terrain of whether a cyberwar is possible will also be considered – what this would mean and how it might be fought (drawing on the work of commentators such as Thomas Rid and others). It will also consider whether the threats posed are exaggerated.
