Cybersecurity
Abstract
This chapter explains various technologies available to counter the cybersecurity threats and to protect workplaces. Defending an organization from cybersecurity threats, there are some general principles to follow in planning defense strategies and tactics including: layering, limiting and simplicity. The chapter focuses on technological solutions available to defend networks and computer systems from the rampant security threats. It also explains the firewall router drops internet protocol packets incoming from the Internet unless they are a part of ongoing sessions initiated by internal hosts. The firewall router joins three subnets: one for the Internet connection, one for the main production network, and one for the de-militarized zone network. The chapter examines data link layer protocols designed to guard the ubiquitous WiFi local area network. Three security standards have been introduced for WiFi networks. They are wired equivalent privacy, WiFi protected access and institute of electrical and electronics engineers 802. 11i.
