Cybersecurity
Abstract
Aggressors and organized crimes have launched serious cybersecurity attacks, and ill-prepared public and private organizations have suffered dearly. People are the most vulnerable element in cybersecurity, and thus continuous efforts should be made to prevent employees from falling victim to cyber threats. Cybersecurity terms frequently used by researchers and industry practitioners are explained in this chapter. Threats are dangers that may cause harm if acted upon an individual or organizational target. In launching an attack targeting an organization, the threat actor takes advantage of its vulnerability, a form of weakness that can be exploited. Bad actors take advantage of numerous techniques, tactics, and procedures to commit cyber aggressions. There can be many vulnerabilities at an organization which are not necessarily tied to a particular software, hardware, or network technology. An organization may decide to simply accept the existing cyber risk and potential losses resulting from it.
