Cybersecurity
Abstract
Cybersecurity has evolved over the years to become a critical component for businesses and individuals alike. As malicious actors have grown in numbers and continued to change their tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs), the cybersecurity industry has had to constantly evolve to keep up with this constant change. Estimates are saying cost of these attacks is now $6T. As technology has also evolved and continues to improve the lives of people as well as allowed businesses to continually improve their business processes, these same technologies can cause challenges. The speed of technological change causes lack of understanding how to implement, deploy, and secure the technology. Misconfigurations due to lack of understanding continue to be found. Vulnerabilities within software and hardware are regularly identified, disclosed, and ultimately exploited by malicious actors. In this chapter we will explore the history of cybersecurity, how the threat landscape has evolved, technology innovations, and best practices including some of the standards used today as well as building a cybersecurity framework to minimize the risk of becoming a victim of cybercrime.
