Overview & Synopsis

The increasingly pressing agri-environmental crises underscore the need for paradigm shifts and organizational innovations. The challenges they raise involve a diverse range of actors and natural objects (resources, biodiversity, health) that are part of collective dynamics and long-term—or even infinite—timeframes, particularly when it comes to preserving natural or cultural heritage resources. From a sustainability perspective, this raises questions about the emergence and resilience of “organizing”: how are organizational processes—involving a multiplicity of actors and objects—constructed and sustained? Historically focused on business and public administration, management sciences offer a unique perspective on these dynamics of collective action. Drawing on a variety of case studies (animal and plant health, water policy, multi-use land management, etc.), the book also examines research contexts and the development of interdisciplinarity. It offers a unique synthesis of knowledge derived from research in management sciences, thereby highlighting their specific contribution to understanding and managing agro-environmental issues in order to inform and renew practices in these fields. Intended for researchers, faculty, and students, it will also be of interest to professionals involved in agro-environmental management projects.
