On the Practicality of a Liberal Education
Overview & Synopsis
For centuries, liberal education did not need to be justified. It was simply the way one came to be educated. However, the curriculum has evolved with the growth of knowledge and changing intellectual fashions over the very long stretch of time from the Middle Ages to the early twentieth century. Now, with the progressive increases in the cost of a college education, people have started to question the practicality of a liberal education. In this article, the author explains what liberal education does for a student and justifies why professional schools should continue requiring it.
