Overview & Synopsis

Language education should assume the responsibility of environmental education at the turn of this new century. In today's language classes, teachers often only concentrate on the idea that "essays are for conveying truth" and neglect to uncover factors related to environmental education from language education so that environmental knowledge and awareness can be disseminated as well. In this article, the authors urge on reinforcing a research in this area so that environmental education can be a part of the mission of language education and illustrated the feasibility and necessity of teaching environmental education in a high school language class. Since environmental education taught in a language class is different than taught in a geography class, relevant factors should be carefully selected and presented in the classroom. The primary resources and conduits for environment education in a language class are discussed.
